Kids birthday party ideas.

Can anyone please help?
My daughter is turning five in a few months, and I want to throw her a cool party. I am having trouble coming up with good ideas for the theme, games, food, decorations, etc... I have checked out a bunch of websites for ideas, but everything is some commercial theme you have to buy the games and supplies for. I would like some ideas on things to make or different games to play. Her birthday is in the beginning of June, so it will be warm and sunny (hopefully). I don't want to do anything commercial like cartoon characters or tv shows or movies. I know I am being a bit vague in what I am looking for, but I don't want to give specifics for fear of losing out on some great ideas.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

What are some things she likes? Is she a girlie girl? Maybe a tea party? or going with a theme, alice's tea party from Alice in Wonderland... Girls could bring their dolls along if they wanted to.

A Luau -- or however that's spelled - -one of those Hawaiin parties. Grass skirts and leis for the kids (Oriental Trading Company has that stuff dirt cheap) The children could be taught how to Hula...

My daughter just turned 5 this December. She wanted a Rock and Roll party...not sure where she came up with it, but we ran with it. We bought some inflatable guitars, saxaphones and microphones. The kids all had a great time. She picked out her favorite kids songs and we centered the party happenings around that.

I have two words for you... Pony rides! Hell, I'll be 27 on my next birthday and I'd still like a pony ride party :)

Could plan a day at a salon...doing nails, hair etc. Have a gf who's daughter just loved her party like that.

How about a tea party? I always wanted to have a little tea party birthday when I was little.

Pirates! Yarr! Easy enough to dress up like one, and you can have treasure hunts in the house or garden with maps and everything.

Three words: My Little Ponies.

Sorry if you do not want to go that route, but everyone loves my little ponies. I helped my neighbor build a room themed for horses for his little girl(she loves horses). For example, we built a bed resembling a carousel and her dad set up so she could visit/feed some real horses. It definitely costs money. But, if you want to have some fun, you can do some really creative things like that for cheap that any little girl would love.

Are 5 year old girls really into pirates though? Maybe I'm not up with what the hip kids are into...

Go with some fireworks as a cap to the festivities. Worked for me. :)

I found an online source for buying them. http://www.fireworks.com/

I like the sound of the tea-party. Especially the Alice in Wonderland version. Tell the girls to bring their own dolls around as Mal suggests. You could bake cookies and cake (your daughter could help with that!) and organize "parlour games" like charades and blind man's bluff etc.

Alternatively, and this may sound old school, how about a visit to the zoo? I always loved that. Many zoos now also have "petting zoos" where you can actually interact with the animals. Not much good if she's not interested in animals though.

Finally, you could always ask her "Dear, if you could wish for the coolest, most special, favouritest, bestest party in the world, what would you wish for?" Just hope she doesn't answer "A shopping trip to Tiffanys!"

She's 5, right?

When my cousin turned 6, she had a princess party. They all got those dollar-store tiaras, and her brother got to be the king, so he was involved too. I can't remember what else they did, but it was really fun. (So fun I had the same party for myself on my next birthday (my 17th) with formal dresses added!)

First of all, how old is she? That can help deciding how eloborate you can go.

Tea party is a great idea. If she is old enough to suggest something, go with that.

My son will be turning 5 next month and he wants a Harry Potter theme, so I will be doing food, games, goodies based on that.

Have fun with it!

Have the party at a bowling alley, or game room, or gymnastics place. Something a little different that they will love.

we did roler skating once for my newphews 5 yr party... movies.... a kids museum.... my eldest son had his 4 yr old party today.. he wanted spider man so thats what he got.. last year it was bob the builder.... but really your right those comercial ideas are sorta lame... i like the pony ride idea.. maybe theres a farm around you..i guess it all kinda depends on how "mature" she is... what does she like.. id say the best idea is something shes into.... i have no idea about 5 yr old girls.. but if i was gonna do my sons next year perhaps it would be going out on 4 wheelers with some of close friends.. ( he likes the atv ps 2 game.)

good luck

No I don't work at Chuckie Cheese. Just had a few great parties there for my own kids.

I've been to several birthday parties of my daughter's friends (she'll be five herself in a week). Here are some things people did:

--hire an animal wrangler to do a show for the kids. At one party a guy brought everything from snakes to alligators to an adult Florida panther. The kids loved it.

-- have a party at a local farm. Here in Miami there's a place called the Little Farm that books birthdays every weekend. Pony rides, cow milking, petting, feeding, plus facilities for picnicking.

-- rent a bouncy house. Eats up a ton of excess energy :)

You can ride my pony.

Actually, I was thinking the same thing. For my oldests 6th birthday we got the neighbor to bring her three horses over. The kids that were there (the ones that don't live on farms) still talk about it.

Set a party themed around drugs.

Oh, and get her Grand Theft Auto San Andreas and a Playstation 2.
