Woman takes out $250,000 insurance policy on 'good looks' as gift to hubby

Lovely face, but is it worth $250,000

By LEO SCHLINK in London

NICOLE Jones is so worried her husband might leave her if she loses her looks she has insured her face for $250,000.

The 26-year-old took the policy out as a birthday present for husband, Richard, who had always joked that he would leave her if she let herself go.

But in order to make a claim, Mrs Jones will have to be declared unattractive by a panel of 10 builders – a test she said her husband appreciated, being a builder himself.

And if the policy did pay out, she would be able to use the money to hire a personal trainer or go to a health farm in a bid to get her looks back.

"When I met Richard I knew he was the sort of person who likes good-looking ladies, but I've had a baby now and my figure isn't what it was before," Mrs Jones, from Gloucestershire, said yesterday.

"I know that if I didn't look the way I do now, Richard would – as he puts it – trade me in for a newer model.

"I can honestly say that I don't think Richard would love me if I weighed 95kg.

"Obviously he can't divorce me on the grounds of ugliness, but if I let myself go he'll leave me, so it's worth the money."

The couple – who have a 20-month-old daughter Lily – met on holiday in Turkey eight years ago, when Richard fell for her slim figure, tanned legs and blonde hair.

"He hated it when I was pregnant and my figure was changing and it was out of our control."

Despite the lure of the six-figure sum, she would not be tempted to lose her looks just so she could claim on the policy.

"The point is I don't want to claim, so there is no point in letting myself go," she said.

"My marriage is worth a lot more than that."

She said she had never thought of herself as looking particularly stunning but she was anxious to hold on to what she had.

"Richard thought it was really funny but I'm very serious about it and I've done it for the two of us," she said.

Mrs Jones is paying $500 a year for the FaceSafe policy which has been underwritten by British insurer Ultraviolet.

"I was very surprised when we were approached, but our underwriters came up with what they thought would be a reasonable premium," Simon Burgess, of Ultraviolet, said.

Plastic surgeon David Gateley said Mrs Jones would be able to afford "the works" if her insurance ever paid out.

"But I have concerns about such a policy. It sends out all the wrong messages," he said.

This story made me laugh my ass off. If her face is wort $250,000 than mine is worth at least 10 million.

The pathetic thing here is when they do get a divorce, trust me they will, she'll get all of the $250,000 and at least half of his shit on top of that.

I am more disturbed that the woman would pander to that. But to each their own I suppose. So what if you want to live an empty shell of a life? Dosn't effect me.

Her husband sounds like a real ass... Who would marry someone that holds something like that over your head... (ie if your looks go, I'm out of here...).

Fine if it's a joke (well not entirely fine but you get the drift) but it isn't really a joke if you go to the lenght she did... clearly she's worried.

Some people are just maddening...

JEEEEZ!!! what the hell?

Glad they have a "deep" relationship based on love...OMG!

I'm sorry but that story really bothered me, I can't believe there are actually men, AND WOMEN like that out there!

"He hated it when I was pregnant and my figure was changing and it was out of our control." OH yeah this couple should really be having kids!

This guy really will help his kids with self confidence when they get older... " Daddy thinks you're getting a little too fat honey. If you don't become a sexy lady, daddies going to disown you."

JEEEEZ!!!!!!!! JUST SICK!

Very very sad.

What is on the outside is transitory.

What is on the inside lasts the rest of your life.

This couple sounds ugly on the inside.

I'm not a builder, but she's got my vote.

9 more and she's rich.

Why insure her face for $250,000 when a paper bag only costs pennies?

What insurance company would write up a policy like that? She doesn't look that good now and she is only going to get worse, no doubt. Sounds like a suckers bet to me.

If he'd leave her on looks alone he doesn't love, respect, or care for her. Why in the world would she want to stay with him. Pregnancy is beautiful and to say that her figure was out of control is pathetic. Your body is supposed to get a belly when you have a baby. I feel sorry for the kid to grow up with parents who are so preoccupied with looks like that. The kid is going to end up with an eating disorder or something. You can't stop the advancement of time something will change no matter how many plastic surgeries she has. He might decide he just doesn't like the new her. Personally I enjoy any body type unless they are so far gone and heavy that they can't even walk - for their own good they need to get medical help for that. I think this is pathetic. Good looks are great. CONFIDENCE is even more attractive.

Sounds like something Loyds of London would do.

And one thing I will add. And not to add to the whole "All/some men are evil" vibe this thread will/has created BUT... I mean she is far from super attractive in the first place. Just saying is all.

Can you imagine being the claims adjuster on that case. "Yes sir, I agree she's butt-ugly now, but honestly sir, she was no prize to begin with".
I can see some kind of weird ass arbitration up around the bend.
