How cold is it in northern California right now?
I'm to SJ on business next week and it's the height of summer here. Wondering if I need to unpack some of my winter clothes... :)

SJ as in San Jose?
I don't know the weather conditions there right now. I grew up in San Francisco - about 40 miles north of San Jose - and I used to think it got cold there in the winter until I moved to Chicago. During the day there it's usually in the 40s on cold days and 50s or low 60s on mild days. I'm pretty sure San Jose is similar. More than likely there's someone here who can tell you more accurately than I can, though. Either way, don't let this trip go by without a visit to San Francisco. :) |
Yeah, I love SF. Great town. Mrs Mephisto joined me last time I was there. We even got to see the parade. Lots of fun.
BTW, your use of the archaic Fahrenheit scale is leaving me none the wiser. 50 degrees? To me that's almost fatally hot! :) Mr Mephisto PS - Yes, SJ = San Jose. I work for a company that has its HQ in SillyCon Valley. |
I've been in the cold. It doesn't get cold here in Norcal.
Clouds. A little rain at times. Bring a jacket and pair of jeans and you will be fine. |
I live "over the hill" from San Jose, on the coast in Santa Cruz, and I'd say our temperature has ranged from mid-40s overnight to mid-60s during the day. It's pretty warm right now, but you'll want to bring a jacket and some long-sleeved shirts, that sort of thing. You missed all the rain (for weeks!) although it has still been somewhat cloudy off and on these days. I don't think there's any more torrential downpours or cold snaps in the forecast for the coming week or so.
Have you been to Santa Cruz? We have beaches, artsy shops and restaurants, and panhandlers for your sightseeing pleasure. :) |
I was afraid of that whole metric thing. You know how us Americans are with our standards of measurement.
If I'm correct, then 55 F is around 13 C. Now, come on, when are you guys around the world going to convert to the much easier system of measurement? :D |
If we convert to Metric, then the terrorists will win.

I was in SF on friday, and the weather was awesome, but did start to get pretty cold when the sun went down. check out weather.com for a 10 day forecast. should be alright during the day if it isn't raining, but pretty damned cold at night
|
I'm in San Jose (Saratoga, more accurately). Wear jeans and a jacket like clavus said.
|
Yea I'm over in SC too. Pretty much during the day a sweater and jeans will be fine, at night maybe a little bit thicker jacket and jeans :P I lasted all my HS years with just a hooded sweater. The weather has actually been pretty nice lately sunny no rain.
|
Caveat: I'd bring a hat too. It's getting kind of chilly for me (but I'm spoiled by the weather here).
|
I was just there for two weeks on vacation. It's pretty chilly, but there has been more sun recently. Probably in the mid-50's to 60's.
|
It's 7 degrees F here in NH, that's -14 C for those of you in the lesser countries. :) Take me with you Mr. Mephisto!!
|
Well, I too live over the hill (Central Coast, Santa Cruz/Watsonville) but I am in San Jose and the Bay Area quite a bit. The weather has been great lately. Just did a search of the weather for you for next week. Looks like lows in the 40's but highs in the low 60's (5-16 C) next week with a chance of some showers on Wednesday. With partly cloudy skies the whole week. Pretty nice weather for winter here. Hope you have as much fun as you can on a business trip!

I live in Nor Cal. It's pretty nice when it rains because it gets a bit humid so it gets warmer than a clear day.
Just bring some decent boots/shoes that dont leak through. |
I live in Santa Cruz; from what I'm told, the climate in Perth is extremely similar to Central California's. So, dress as you would for winter in Perth. If you haven't been through a Perth winter, I'd say dress for a high temp between 50 and 65 degrees F with no more than moderate wind. Rain is a 50/50 possibility; for that, wear sensible shoes and if necessary, buy an umbrella once you get here. Or just bring a water-resistant hat or cap.
I recommend dressing in layers; a windbreaker, a sweater, a shirt. Depending on the day, you can wear one, two or all of the above. |
just wanted to post that today has been one of the nicest days for me in recent memory. Warm sunny day with a light breeze. And the night was just orgasmic ok well not really but its the kinda night where you can be out in just a tshirt or out playing basketball without freezing your ass off.

I thought it was a bit too warm, really.
