I know it's not a holiday most get off of work, and is often times overlooked because of the hustle and bustle of the new year. But I suggest everyone takes a minute today and ponders on the civil rights battles we as a country have won in the past and the ones ahead which we will soon face. I'm very proud to be from a country where people have the right to dissent, we are very lucky and we should keep in mind at all times that we have the power to make things better, it just takes a little bit of effort.

It's also interesting to read the "I have a dream speech" over again. It's an incredible piece of rhetoric and just as powerful on paper as MLK speaking it. I've forgotten all the cool devices he uses in it to get his point across and stuff, but it really is one of the greatest speeches of all time.
