need a gift ideas for my teachers

so, as you may or may not know, I am a student at Modern Welding school, needless to say, I love welding, my instructors have thrown all their knowledge at me, I've learned a lot about something I REALLY enjoy doing. I've got a few months left, and I wanted to get them each a little something just because, ya know? they've all worked their asses off. I was thinking nice pocket knives or something, but I would like it to be something I could get engraved with their names, and that would prolly ruin most good knives, I really dunno tho..

so anyone got any ideas?

Is there anything you could make for them -- to show off what you have learned, and apply it?

I'm sure most, if not all of your teachers would be grateful just to read what you wrote. That they taught you something, and you've learned. and you appreciate them.

www.thingsremembered.com is the website for the store, Things Remembered, which has a lot of personalized gift items. They've got a wide selection of things, so even if you don't find what you want there, perhaps it will give you some ideas.

yes there is, but not anything they could'nt make for themselves, and besides which, I'd much rather give them something practical they can have with them everyday, and I demonstrate my understanding of their teachings by getting my certifications, something that guys who have been welding for a decade or more who come in off the street cannot get.

so I dunno, the knives on thingsremembered dont impress me...
anyone know if anyone out there can engrave a benchmade knife? or one of comperable quality?

I'd like to keep it around 100-150 for each teacher....

the belt buckle knife is cool, but not practical for a welder, ya gotta get in weird positions sometimes, and that thing would hurt

I gave my husband this pocket knife that I purchased from a jewelry store. The handle is mother-of-pearl with a small engravable area near the hinge. There was enough room for initials to be engraved but not a full name. This would be in your price range. The initials have worn over time, but that's because he still carries it every day.

I'm not a huge fan of Gerber knives, and I'd want any knife I gave them to have a thumb stud and a pocket clip... while that is a very verty nice knife, on a job you'd lose that in no time...

I know it prolly sounds like I'm being an ass, but I want something perfect, or as close to perfect as possible...

It's a shame that teacher didn't teach you graciousness. And yes, you sound like you're being an ass.

Whelp?

You started this thread asking for help. The least you could do when someone offers help is to show appreciation and gratitude, even if it's not exactly what you want. Or get used to being ignored on TFP.

find out how many years they have been a teacher and make something that represents that number.

Nothing tells you how much you respect them other then something you made with what they teach you, and also a representation of your respect and understanding for what they do.

It's like when someone ask me what you should get a girl for your one year, I say a dozen roses and a watch not because it's cliche but because 12 is a the resounding number between the two.

I would try and do personal gifts for your teachers. The teacher who was always late-a watch, the one who never went anywhere without a coffee mug-a java-inspired gift basket, the one who told funny stories of his kids-picture frames, etc. Just a thought...
