Googling Security Cameras

pulled this off another board,
if you do a search for

inurl:"ViewerFrame?Mode="

in google, it pulls up unsecured cameras on networks, you can even move them. Ive watched someone work accross the other side of the world, and dogs in labs. People need to be more careful with there networks heh give it a go.
Not sure on the legal ramifications of it but its damn fun )

ratbastid 12-31-2004 06:18 PM

Pretty nifty!

Legal ramification shmegal ramifications. If they're silly enough to let Google index it, I gotta think it's fair game.

hotzot 12-31-2004 07:53 PM

lode's o fun. thanks

fluster 12-31-2004 08:02 PM

Not the most "secure" security cameras. :)

Slavakion 12-31-2004 08:33 PM

A little creepy. But fun nonetheless. Heh, Google is awesome.

Karby 12-31-2004 08:55 PM

...well that certainly was interesting. but those dogs don't seem to be doing much:)

Pham 12-31-2004 11:42 PM

cool stuff.

510cut 01-01-2005 01:54 AM

haha yea its pretty neat but then I felt kinda weird... so I stopped lol.

JStrider 01-01-2005 02:21 AM

that is frickin awesome!

*runs off to look thru more cameras...*

JStrider 01-01-2005 02:39 AM

figured we could post what cameras have things that could be of interest...
so far the only camera ive found with activity is this one and its some dogs playing

Latch 01-01-2005 03:53 AM

This is way more fun than it should be.. it's freaky when someone starts controlling the camera you're watching.

A couple of city views in Japan (I think.. I haven't tracerouted or anything):

It's not Active X, as I can view them in Firefox on Linux.. about as far from Active X as you can get.

It doesn't seem to be flash, or java.. it's just an animated graphic. Not sure how it does it.

blitz.fenix 01-01-2005 04:08 PM

its Java, one of the sites asked me to install it

blitz.fenix 01-01-2005 04:37 PM

this is awesome, can u find a way to attract ppls attention with the camera and spook em?

EDIT: To poster above me. Some cams have lots of special features. I used one that had zoom and all this other stuff but it wasn't working and I forgot link.

silent_jay 01-01-2005 04:46 PM

I wish, that would be great

Latch 01-01-2005 04:55 PM

you can spin the camera around.. that may attract their attention.. depending on where it is.

There is a zoom in and zoom out function under the pan and tilt controls.

Edit: That is apparently some of them do. Also when you find one in English, you can easily see what all the controls do.

edmos1 01-04-2005 09:11 AM

this is crazy, is this a certain type of camera, or just horrible network security?

Psycho Dad 01-04-2005 10:26 AM

I believe these are panasonic cameras of some sort. As far as security, I'd say securing them is possible as I've seen some ask for passwords, but I doubt anyone really gives too much of a shit because it isn't like they are government sites and shit.

Rekna 01-04-2005 10:33 AM

Do you have the link to this one?

Rekna 01-04-2005 12:32 PM

I'm looking for it again but cant find it. I remember one of the presets was pointing at some sort of number display that was probably a temperture or something. I figured it was one of the national labs when one of the presets zoomed in on a monitor and the bottom of the monitor said the name of the lab (not on the screen but on the actual monitor). I went through all the ones i visited and can't find it at the moment. But i noted which ones are black so that I can't see anything. I will check those later.

Anyone see this place?

Ella 01-04-2005 02:52 PM

Mate, a couple of people have asked that question (myself included) and are also being ignored, so either people don't know or don't want to tell!

i installed those things they've asked for and it hasn't done anything harmful that i can tell so far. all its done is made it so i can see the picture. im going to check for more harmful side-effects tomorrow.

Spotila 01-04-2005 11:21 PM

absolutly none of these work for me. Any idea why?

Latch 01-05-2005 12:59 AM

From what I can tell, the cam (webpage) software is fairly smart. It serves you the page differently, depending on what setup you have. It may require Java, it may require to install some ActiveX applet (if you use IE, I'm guessing).

For the record.. I'm on Linux/Firefox.. and it didn't install anything extra (and didn't seem to load java or anything). I'm not sure how it's doing it then.. but it "just works", which I'm happy enough to accept.

Spotila.. your post is useless without some info.. what OS/Browser are you using? Do you get prompted to install anything? Crap like that.

ShaniFaye 01-05-2005 03:57 AM

Im using firefox and didnt have to install anything at all on either pc Im using (work and home)

JasWalker 01-05-2005 07:07 AM

there goes my productive day at work... kewl find

ehh19 01-05-2005 11:45 AM

all the active x applets are so far so good. they haven't blown up my computer or anything and im not detecting any new spyware coming from them ... but my comp sucks so im going to a friends house to check more on the spyware factor ill post more when i know.

p.s. has anyone had anybody they were looking at look up at the camera... its creepy.

thingstodo 01-05-2005 04:07 PM

This is really cool stuff!!

bad jane 01-05-2005 04:32 PM

some of them work for me, some of them don't. sometimes the controls load but the picture is coming across as a broken link. i've downloaded everything they've asked with the exception of language packs. really fun stuff!

teflonian 01-05-2005 04:34 PM

http://168.215.159.14/sample/LvAppl/lvappl.htm

Hub Caps and tires? I dare you to find a more boring camera..

Oh, and this camera type (searching for "LvAppl/lvappl.htm" like Fearless_Hyena suggested) appears to use Applets. So I presume you need Java to use them. In any case, I didn't need to load anything I didn't already have for my browser (Firefox).

Spotila 01-05-2005 04:34 PM
