More Banned people

Is it just me or do there seem to be many more people than there used to be with little banned tags. Maybe I just haven't really looked before, but it just seems that there are more. Are the mods doing a cleanup? Anyone else noticed this?

When people get banned their title (text under username) changes to "Banned".

As for more I don't know, yes people get banned. At v3.0 we had a alarming number of banned due to leaching porn and not posting.

I was one of those leechers; it took me a long time to realise that this board was pretty cool for more reasons that just free porn. Now that I've slowly started to be more involved, it's definitely become an interesting place to be.

I just wish you guys had sent out e-mails before you banned people, letting them know just how close they were to being banned for their (lack of) actions.

I've seen a bunch of people banned because the made it ridiculously obvious that they were under 18. Or due to the fact that they were being assholes. Two best reasons for bans, IMO.

uh yeah. i was one of those banned... multiple times.

but i guess what threw me off is.....

if yer banned....... how would we see your name in the first place?

like go back to a post they did pre-exile? if banned why let them post?

i'm not trying to be a pain. i just can't compute the idea of a banned man with freedom. oxy moron to the third power.

Those that were axed for nonparticipation were warned with a notice that was posted for a couple of weeks before it went into effect. Anyone banned due to behavioral problems was warned previously and continued to disobey the board's rules.

Like I said, if you weren't a participating member, your account would have been axed. There was an announcement at the top of every board about that.

There aer no longer warnings about axing due to non-participation because it's in the rules now and is information always available to people. Before then, people were warned.

What's the point though if the only reason they're participating is to not get banned? Don't participate, you go bye-bye. Don't read the rules, you don't know it. Glad to see you're now a participating member though

As for more bannings now than before? No, I don't think so. The reason you can see a banned person's posts though is because - in most cases, but not all - they remain after they are banned.

what would constitute a participating member though? a few posts a visit? or massive amounts of posts?

personally I dont like to post when I really have nothing intelligent (or humourous) to add... so my post count stays fairly low..

We're not looking for everyone to have an average of 10+ posts per day. If you see something that you can comment on, then comment. If not, move on. What we don't want is people joining and having a zero post count after several months. It's a drain on the bandwidth that could be used for members who actually participate here.

And don't worry oblar, if you continue posting the amount that you do (even though you said your post count is low) you should be okay. Just a little, thoughtful participation is all that we ask.

We ban people so you can enjoy your forum.

I haven't even begun axing the non-participants.

People who appear to be underage in either mind or body are removed as well.

And try to remember that we don't owe anybody anything.

I think the reason you see more than in v3 is that we have less posts so far, and that means it takes longer for threads to fall out of sight. If they stay up top until we have a lot of posts, the banned ones who posted earlier are more visible.

They're around, BBtB.

As Hal said, he hasn't even touched the leaches yet. Most bans right now are due to underage posters, either physically or mentally

So could some smart aleck change his tag to say "Banned"?

Not that I would. No way. Not me. But if someone did...

Just a smart alecky thought.

Somebody did a post a few weeks ago asking people to give their real name. I compiled all of them into a Word document (for my own reference), and I noticed a lot of banned tags there.

It was a couple of months ago, and most of my accounts wouldn't last more than a week or so. One day I would just pop up and see that I wasn't logged in, and then it would say that the administration wouldn't allow me on for some reason.

Eh, it's no biggy. I'm not participating beacause I don't want to be banned now anyhow; I'm involved because this board has turned into a pretty good thing.

I've only seen 1 banned person, that was in a post that i think flyman started about you playing your instrument, and some dumbass kid that had to be 13 posted a picture of himself, saying that it was 4 or 5 years ago, when its obvious by looking at everything that it was taken the day before!

WK, you should know something about being banned. After all, you're from the great bastion of banning, Boston.

The only question I have is, "what's all this interest in banned people"? Does someone around here have a sixth sense? ("I see banned people!")
