Cleaning the plate?

Tonight I am sitting here eating some Chinese food when I come across some mystery chunk of something. Now, I did not want to eat this, I wanted it off my plate. I kind of pushed it to the side. Then, not happy with that, I ate it... I ate it! In order to get this food I did not want to eat off of my plate, I ate it. This isn't just because I want to clean the plate, when I am full I have no problem throwing the rest out.

This is something that I realize I do often, I can remember sitting down at a Out Back, something on my plate I didn't like. So I ate it, so that I could get back to enjoying my meal?

Anyhow, later in tonights meal I saw the same something, and ate it again. I noticed what I was doing, and thought I would see if I am alone on this.

If I don't like it on my plate I generally figure that ten minutes later I'd like it even less were it to have been put into my gullet. I tolerate the morsels of mystery food once they're put into their little spot on my plate/bowl rim/napkin/placemat/etc.

Not me. Being part Cajun. I take my food (prep and all) very serious. I hardly ever eat something I don't like or can't identify. Especially at a Chinese place, Not after I heard the song by Weird Al called 'Cats in the Kettle'

I removed the need to eat everything that's on my plate.

I realized at a young age, the adages,"I'm just going to throw it away" and "There are starving kids in India" just didn't work for me to compel me to remove what was from my dish.

The most important thing for me to remember is that if I still have food on my plate and I've not finished it but I'm full, I will pick at it as we sit there. I have to ask the server to please remove the plate or have to cover it with my napkin.

Eat something that I can't identify? Nope, no way, never gonna happen. Just the thought of doing such a thing makes me gag.

Maybe it was a piece of tofu. Tofu is delicious and nutritrious.

I always eat everything on my plate simply because there is nothing (that I would order) that I won't eat. I'll eat anything that is edible and grows out of the ground.

I would never eat something from a Chinese food place that I couldn't identify. Some of those take-out places are a bit shady :hmm:
Especially after that time my friend found a roach in her Chinese food.

Unless it was some fancy resturant where I expect not to identify some of the food, I'd keep it away from my mouth.
Hell, I might not even eat anything else on the plate if the unidentifiable thing grossed me out enough.

The short answer is: No, if there is something on my plate that I don't like, I'd like it even less inside me. I wouldn't eat it.

I try to avoid chinese restaurants...

If I see something that I can't identify, I'll ask someone else if they know what it is. If no one knows what it is, I'm not gonna eat it.

That is why God invented the Forward Pass...

Powderedmaggot 12-31-2004 11:22 AM

Nope, If I can not identify something or think it is gross and don't want to eat it I don't eat it. Especially at restaurants, you never know what the hell may fall into the food. Many cooks at restaurants don't give a shit and are just turning out food taking little or no pride in the final product. I'm not saying all cooks are like that but lots are. I know that when I worked in a kitchen in a posh hotel the chef was very particular but his underlings couldn't give a shit.

I would have flung it across the room when no one was looking--like a booger.

Maybe it was a booger. Maybe it was my booger.

Please stop eating unidentifiable stuff!

I'm the same way.

i don't get bothered by food on myplate. i'll try it even if i can't identify it, if it tastes bad i just don't eat it again.

Yeah, there's no way I'd eat something I don't want just to get it out of my sight. If I'm at home and I'm really anxious for the room on my plate I'll just stick it in a napkin and throw it away. Otherwise, I'll tolerate it. Especially if it's food from restaurants where I'm not intimately familiar with how my food was prepared.

Well the *something* was a daikon raddish so it wasn't a totally unknown object.
For some reason, if there is something on my plate I don't like, it needs to be removed from my plate in order for me to enjoy the rest of the meal.

I guess there is some confusion with the command *get this off the plate because I don't want to eat it* that becomes *remove this from the plate* which then becomes *eat this* in my mind.

Anyhow, guess it *is* just me.

When I am eat a meal I always eat the parts I like least first, to get them over and done with, so I can enjoy the parts I do like. I'd probably eat something that I didnt like just to get rid of it, and if I had no idea what it was and I was in a restaurant, I'd probably assume they wouldnt give it to me if it wasnt edible and try it - I wouldnt finish it if was horrible tasting, but if it was merely unpleasant I'd probably pick away at it until it was gone.

I was always bought up that way, I had to clear the plate, and if I didnt eat all my meal I used to get it reheated for the next meal... and it would taste a lot worse!!!!

Stick 01-02-2005 05:11 AM

I eat everything. Down the hatch with it, no matter what. I've picked up pizza off the street and eaten it just to gross people out.
ps - I don't get sick either. I can't remember the last time I was.

That's a sign of a good immunity system right there. I'm the same way. The more bad stuff you digest...the better you can resist it.
