Subject: Live television banner hacked

A television station in Raleigh, North Carolina (U.S.A.) created a Web
interface so local businesses could submit closure information during
inclement weather. Although participants had to register and receive human
approval, there was apparently no further review of the submissions before
they appeared on-air. Judging from the screenshots the hack went on for
many hours before being discovered.

News 14 Carolina gets pwnt
OH WE BACK!!! I got the pictures and the site is back, baby!

OK, maybe I should explain what this is all about. On February 26, 2004, we had a snowstorm here in Raleigh, and all the news channels posted the businesses and schools that would be closed the next day. One of these fine news organizations, Time Warner Cable's News 14 Carolina, chose the most convenient but least secure method to allow businesses to report closings: the Internet. Well, it wasn't long before members of The Wolf Web, an NCSU message board, exposed this flaw. They went crazy, as you're about to see. The best part of the whole thing was once a closing was accepted, it could be edited on the Internet and would go straight to TV without having to be reviewed again, so a fake closing that seemed plausible the first time it was shown could be outrageous the next time.

Man, I'm really sorry I don't have time to watch the news in the morning. I could've caught this. I don't even remember people talking about it. But whenever this is from (I think sometime around Feb.) it's some pretty funny stuff.

Now I feel the need to find a way to take advantage of their new system.

MooseMan3000 12-22-2004 07:58 AM

Bwaaaahahahaha! News 14 got pwnt. That is too funny.

I would think there are some news producers looking for a job right now. Almost all of that stuff is so obvious it should have never made it through more than one viewing. My compliments to The Wolf Web.

This one is my favorite because my preferred greeting for ringing payphones that I come across is, (In a British accent) "Cecil's Cockring Emporium, Connecticut's largest supplier of below-the-belt bodey jewelry, how can we accesorize your wang today?"

edit: by the way, does anyone know where the name "Cecil's Cockring Emporium" is from? I thought that was an original one that I came up with, but it seems that I may have picked it up from someone else.

Whoa, that Thomas Brewington is quite the supervillain.

Mechanic: Somebody set up us the bomb.
Operator: We get signal.
Captain: What !
Operator: Main screen turn on.
Captain: It's You !!
Thomas Brewington: How are you gentlemen !!.....

On HBO the comedy sketch show "Mr. Show" had a parody commercial about a cockring emporium so it may have come from there. It was pretty funny, They showed a huge warehouse with forklifts and the like running about with the voice over saying in best overblown fashion "Its a cockring blow-out! The new models are coming in and these have to go!" etc, etc. I don't recall if "Cecil" was in the title but it may have been.
Love the e-mail messages on the news broadcast. I used to direct a morning news show at an NBC affiliate and can't see how those got past master control. Someone was either an idiot, sleeping, or just didn't care. Priceless.

LOL i pissed my pants and what some of those hackers typed....lol if only i knew how to crack.....
