In the sports forum, troit started a thread called: So what professional athlete do you know? and well this is just copying him. (i hope he doesnt mind). there probably has been a thread like this. so just delete it if you must.

Anyways, have you met any famous people? were they nice or mean? do you personally know one? it can be anybody famous, a politician an actor a musician a newscaster,etc.

Me, i've met some musicians at concerts. nobody really huge. So, how about you?

I work at MTV and the wife worked in the MTV Studio. I also grew up and lived near the studios in Hollywood... too many to list... read my journal for the latest bump with fame.

yes, I wrote for several international art journals for a decade. I have a lot of friends who are "famous artists" who I still collaborate with. Some are dead now. They are real people - which is a lot more interesting than fame. We have a fame illness in this society. It makes us blithering fools. "Famous people" are often miserable precisely because of their fame.
I think it's gauche to just blather about "famous people" so I don't.

I was in Grand Central Station during the filming of "Bad Company" and between takes I yelled, "Hey Chris!" and he waved to my family. Does that count?

I met Dennis Johnson of the Boston Celtics.

I went to Senator Gregg's father's house uninvited because I couldn't get through to the Senator. He was very nice and helped me out quite a bit, after he got over the shock of me being there. By the way, Senator Gregg's father used to be the Governor of NH, so that counts, I think.

I've seen former Senator Smith from NH at an airport. Didn't say anything, just noted that it was him.

I know Weird Al Yankovic...

I don't know if he counts as famous.

On a trip to San Francisco about 10 years ago I walked past the chick from that 90's rock band 4-Non-Blondes. Dreadlocks and all.

Shook hands with Sly, and Bruce Willis at the opening of one of those famous people restaurant cafe thigns in Singapore.

I met Slayer, minus Tom Araya, at a mainly vietnamese dance club in Brisbane. They were grumpy and had nowhere to go, it was a public holiday. I was very drunk, and can't remember what we talked about, but I remember Jeff Hanneman saying, "Hey, you have to speak English!" at one point.

When my mom was working at a hotel in Milwaukee, she met Kenny Rogers. Apparently he's an arrogant asshole, but he may have just been cranky from travelling and it was late at night.

Edit: Apparently I need to clarify: she worked behind the front desk as the night auditer. Basically doing accounting type stuff and checking in late arrivals.

I was an alter server at Pat Sajak's wedding in Annapolis, MD.

I played badminton with Scottie Pippen from back when he was with the Bulls.

I met David Robinson, Brooks Robinson, Cal Ripken, Jr, and Johnny Unitas. (Can you tell I'm originally from Maryland?)

Muhammad Ali, Tyrone Willingham, Ara Parseghian, Rocky Bleier, and Dick Vitale.

I met Senator McCain, Presidents Bush (the first one) and Clinton, and Senator Bill Bradley.

I think those are the only ones that most people would know. Some of the most famous people I've met have been military men and women who have done incredible things, but the majority of people wouldn't know them unless they were in the military.

I met Robert DeNero, Robert Duvall, Al Pachino, Francis Ford Coppela, and a bunch of other stars when they were filming The Godfather part II. They stayed at the hotel my family had a cabana membership with. My sisters and I got parts as extras in the movie as well as a bunch of our friends. I was only 12 at the time but remember it well. Not too many people get to say they played in a pool with Al Pachino:D All of them were very nice (they were there for 6 weeks).

I also took Crispin Glover 4x4ing when he came up here. He's a really good shit. (long story that I'm not going into).

A few years ago while skiing up at Whistler I had my lunch across the table from Tom Brokaw (the tables are a cafeteria type setting). He asked me a few questions about the mountain and the local scene. My girlfriend had no idea who he was until I showed him reading the news a week or so later. (this was during the Clinton - Yeltsin summit in Vancouver)

:D wasn't commenting at your mom... only at Mr. Rodgers.. have you tried his chicken? does it even still exist? The ones in the NYC area all closed up a few years ago. I wonder if it had anything to do with the Seinfeld episode.

We have friends who work in the Art Department for the Star Trek shows/movies. One year, we were there visiting and met Wil Wheaton while he was still on Star Trek:The Next Generation.

First off - the references to Kenny Rogers - an arrogant asshole? Drunk arrogant asshole is probably a lot closer to what I've seen on several occasions. The only really famous people I've ever really met personally - like up close and personal, are Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. When working in law enforcement I had a chance to spend about an hour with them in my car in a terrible snowstorm while we waited for a tow truck to come after them. They were two of the most pleasant people I've ever met and this was under poor circumstance for them - Course! Might of been a lot worse if I hadn't shown up when I did!

My cousin just married a guy that has a band....They have out two albums....He's a pretty cool guy.

I used to draw flip book animation with this guy named Pete. But I realized that he was a dork and I had beer to drink and ciggs to smoke and punkrock and he was a freaky Christian.

That Bastard up and created Toy Story, Monsters Inc and that kick ass Listerine comercial with the sword fights.... Why did I have to be so "cool"

As I mentioned in the "what famous athletes do you know" thread- My sister went to school with Scottie Pippen- he was a friend of our family for a time. He's unbelievably nice - very kind to my mom...

But, under the catagory of those you've met: I've actually met a lot of famous people, but I only have a story to tell about a few of them. Here's one...

We had really great season tix for the Bulls and our seats were in very close proximity with MJ's security guard/body guard. His name is Gus (he's quasi famous and an awesome guy). Anyway, sometimes he lets me go down the the locker room to hang. This one time we were going to meet MJ (I was impressing a date). We were hanging out waiting with Chris (Robinson?) Kid- from Kid N' Play (who was also really cool). Gus (black guy) introduces me (white guy) to MJ and says, "Mike, I'd like to introduce you to my favorite nephew" and Mike says shaking his head, "Gus, man, you got more favorite white nephews than anybody I know." Not the funniest thing that's ever been said, but when Mike says it, you laugh pretty hard.
We walked him to his car... it was pretty cool.

In my youth...gawd that was long ago, when I dabbled in politics, I met Richard Nixon, Barry Goldwater, Pat Nixon, Bob Dole, Sammy Davis Jr., John Wayne, Governor Sebelius and Karl Rove. Now in my golden years, the most famous person I get to meet is, oh wait, I don't go anywhere....haha

Sports - Dave Winfield, Thurmon Munson, Carl Yastremski, Mike Piazza, Doctor J, Mike Tyson, Muhammed Ali, Tony Dorsett, Anna Kournakova,

Movies - Sly, Michael Douglas, Michael Caine, Robin Williams,

Models - Brooke Shields, Cheryl Tiegs,

Music - Billy Joel, Liza Minelli

I was at a bar a while ago seeing a freind's band play and Natasha Lyonne and Chloe Sevigny came in. I said hi to Lyonne, cuz I think she's super cute, but whatever.
My mom worked for Gary Hart way back when so I met him a bunch and also Stephen King, who also worked for Hart.
I used to be in a band with a freind of Jon Spenser's way back when, so he was at least peripherally aware of me.
Oh, and I met a bunch of celebs at House of Blues when I worked there. The best was Ted Nugent. I was cooking brick oven pizza and he kept coming up behind me and telling me he was an apprentice blacksmith and could really understand where I was coming from. Eventually somebody smuggled some booze out to his trailer and he left me alone. That was pretty funny.

i used to work in the bar of one of Sydneys top hotels.

i've met A LOT of famous people. because when they stay in Sydney, there's really only two hotels that celebs choose.

I'm from the same hometown as The Commodores, so Lionel Richie and Ronald LaPread are good friends of my whole family. In the summer of 1980 they allowed me to be a roadie on their US tour. EYE-OPENER!!!!!

The drummer for the original Classics IV (Kim Venable) is a cousin of mine.

I met Paul Revere & The Raiders (including Mark Lindsey) in 1966 at an all-star show, and we named our cat "Fang" after their guitar player.

I played in a band that was the opening act for Billy Joe Royal's 1987 US tour.

I jammed with Mac McAnally in a studio in Muscle Shoals in 1980.

I taught Victoria Jackson (from SNL) how to play the ukelele in college. Her ditzy-ness is NOT an act; she is exactly that way in real life.

Also in college, I tutored Bo Jackson (geography) and Charles Barkley (economics, of all things).

While living in Iowa, my wife and I became "dinner partners" with an assistant basketball coach and his wife, Terry and Pat Reed. It was their son, Neil Reed, who helped bring down Bobby Knight at Indiana.

One of my two biggest heroes is Sid Caesar (the other is John Lennon), and I talked to him on the phone when he was on Larry King Live 20 years ago. That would be Sid, not John. I never came anywhere close to meeting a Beatle.

In addition to all the encounters with the cult of the personality during my youth (I had many opportunities to meet people then), I met John Nash at a conference on game theory. However, I didnt' realize who it was until after I had finished my conversation with him and one of my friends said something to the affect of "Wow, you got to talk to John Nash, what was it like?" He seemed like a perfectly normal (for a mathematician) old man to me.

I've met Bruce Campbell 4 times, Margaret Cho, David Spade, The Rock, Tom Savini, the cast of Dawn of the Dead, Trent Reznor, James Maynard Keenan, Marilyn Manson, Gina Lee Nolan.

Richard Masur lives in my building. Thats about it.
Most poeple dont even know who he is. I know I didnt at first until my g/f pointed him out :p (hint: he was in The Thing, a lot of 80s movies, and a lot of tv shows)

I’ll probably get flamed to a pitiful cinder over this, but I have something to say about another celebrity I met, George Wallace. For those of you not from the US, or for those of you too damn young to know, George Wallace will always be remembered as the Alabama governor who stood in the schoolhouse door at the University of Alabama and physically blocked the integration of that school in 1962 (watch Forrest Gump). His catchphrase that day was “Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, and segregation forever.”

But no matter how you feel about his politics, it would be foolish to refuse to admit that he was a hell of a master politician. He completely reversed his segregation policy when it became unfashionable and won a final term as Alabama’s governor in 1982 with the help of a landslide black vote. And Richard Nixon owed him a lot, because Wallace destroyed the Democratic Party in the ’68 Presidential Elections while running as an Independent.

I met Wallace in 1966 as my sister’s class toured the state capitol. My parents were chaperones for that field trip, so our entire family got to meet him. He was completely gracious and unbelievably patient in talking to everyone (adult and child), and I couldn’t believe he would actually take that much time with every single tour group.

Fast forward to the 1982 gubernatorial race in Alabama, and Wallace toured my hometown, where my parents still ran a Mom and Pop store. Wallace came into my folks’ store in order to campaign and spoke to my parents. My father said, “You probably don’t remember this, but we met you back in 1966….”

Wallace interrupted him by calling his name, calling my mother’s name, and asking how each of the kids were doing (calling each of us by name, also).

No matter how you feel about George Wallace, you’ve got to admire mental faculties like that.

When I was in High School I used to really be into drawing. Free-hand drawing, not the computer aided type stuff... REAL drawing. I entered a contest sponsored by Detroit Edison to promote their, "Look Up", safety theme. Well, low and behold, I won first place for all of Michigan! Woo-hoo! I had dinner in Downtown Detroit (at the DTE HQ) with all of the finalists and... Isiah Thomas. He actually sat with me and my family and had dinner. This was in '88. He was cool then! Really easy going and nice.

My only "brush" with someone famous.

My wife and I won tickets to a concert; what we didn't realize was they were backstage passes, AND we were supposed to be on-stage with the starring band which was Little Feat. MAN did we have a good time; to all the Little Feat bandmembers on ths board, you guys are the greatest!

I am terrible with faces. I expect people to look the way they do on TV or the movies. So I never recognize anyone even if I was sitting next to them. I did convince my wife that a woman in Sizzler was Chris Everett the tennis player, but I don't think it really was.

I shook hands with Arnold Swartzenegger at the opening of Planet Hollywood in Vancouver. I think its pretty cool, since Arnold is one of my fav actors

I work in a hospital so I've met quite a few. Proffesional ethics stops me from mentioning their names, but I did meet Billy Casper when I was 10 years old at a golf tourney in the phillipines. I climbed a tree on the course to get a better look and split my pants. He made his putt dispite stareing at my underwear from across the green.
