Ever notice black pants fit tighter than other colors?

This is one of those little things in life I can't figure out but for some reason black pants always fit a little more snuggly than other colors. I first noticed this in high school buying back to school clothes. Bought the same kind of jeans from the same maker the blue jeans...fit a little loose like I liked them. The black jeans...were noticeablely tighter. Then I started noticing it with dress slacks...grey ones...were looser than black ones...then Dockers...then shorts. And they were always the same size, same manufacturer, and same cut. Asked my family...they noticed...asked some friends and at first they didn't realize it but they too started noticing this. Am I insane or is there truly a pants conspiracy out there? Or better yet a reason for this I'm not aware of.

I haven't really noticed this myself, but maybe there is reason to why black is a slimming colour? And not just a lack of shadows to show definition...

I think you've lost it.

absorbentishe 12-18-2004 02:32 PM

All my pants are fitting a little snugger these days, consiracy, I think so!

Fremen 12-18-2004 03:02 PM

I noticed it too, Lockjaw.

We can be crazy together.

I think this discussion is bordering on paranoia :)

bernadette 12-18-2004 03:27 PM

never noticed that, but black pants will always be my favorite & usually in the wash most.

I seriously haven't! Well...maybe..but not on this one. Go to the store and grab a pair of Levi's one blue and one black...and black ones will be tighter.

ElwoodBlues 12-18-2004 04:13 PM

you ever notice that green M&Ms taste different than red M&Ms?

No?

Because they dont. My point, you ask?

Its probably psychological. Because the black pants are slimming, your mind thinks they are smaller perhaps. Either that or there are discrepancies between different brands and types of jeans.

Lockjaw 12-18-2004 08:29 PM

Nope same brand same cut from the same store on the same day.

K-Wise 12-18-2004 08:43 PM

Oh I get it! The black pants are just a metaphor for the black man! You're just trying to say that the black man doesn't fit in and he should just go back to Africa right?!! What you're trying to say is that you feel uncomfortable around all things black! Ya know I thought we were done with this sort of behaviour well I guess I was wrong! You sir should feel ashamed of yourself! Good day!

Asta!!

Faygo 12-18-2004 09:11 PM

You only think they are tighter because you feel so much sexier in them.

So maybe that explains why I feel uncomfortable in my own skin at times.

Funny how the Pepsi clear tasted different from the regular....unless you had your eyes closed. Maybe if you close your eyes you won't know the difference....

I've noticed it too lockjaw, I think it's the dye they use for black, it feels rougher to me (and btw I like black, just not on jeans) and therefore more uncomfortable which makes you notice the tightness more. Or the black dye shrinks em a bit more than normal. But then again, I have sensitive skin.

eyeronic 12-19-2004 11:53 AM

I agree with TOK. You are crazy.

raeanna74 12-19-2004 11:59 AM

The thought has occured to me that frequently people will choose black clothes to make themselves look slimmer. Perhaps manufacturers kindof play into this and make them just slightlyl on the smaller side. Not sure.

Otherwise - I agree it's probably mostly psychological.

My black slacks fit snugger but they're a size smaller than most of my other slacks.

Ah, but yellow peanut M&Ms DO taste different from any other flavor. The others are indistinguishable, but yellows have a very distinct flavor difference.

Were the pants assembled in the same third-world country?

I've seen some retailers (Victoria's Secret, to name one) sell the same goods in different colors made in different countries (e.g. the blue panties might have come from Paraguay, and the pink ones from Madagascar).

If that were the case, it may have been that the eight year old who sewed your black pants together used a slightly different technique than the seven year old on the other side of the world with the other colored pants.
