What goes atop a Christmas Tree?
If this is N/A to you, then please skip and go on to the next thread.
I was always raised that a star goes atop the tree, but my wife is equally as adamant that it's supposed to be an angel. What say you? -Mikey |
We have an angel. My wife believes in angels and fairies, so.....no star here
My family is very Christian, so we have an angel.
Always a star. Never anything else.
i always grew up making Angels in school... therefore my parents put Angels on top of the tree...
i just follow what i'm taught... so it's a angel... not that i really think it matters. |
Star. Angels can be cool, but are often tacky. I think it's really a matter of taste.
When I think of a tree, I see a star on top.
But when I think of MY tree, there is an Angel on top. Just what was on top when I was a kid. |
We used to have some sort of glass pointy thingy that was very old....now we use a star...i wish we had that old ornament....it was very unique
always a star.
Sometimes we use a star, others we use an angel. I don't think that my wife would let me use anything other than those two though.
We have some sort of spikey glass ornament that goes on the top. I bought it several years ago, because it reminded me of the one that my grandmother had, when I was a child. On Christmas eve, it gets replaced with the star that my wife grew up with, as a child.

Because I love a good joke... An Angel.... (when I have a tree that is -- but the reason is because of this joke)
Not long ago and not far away Santa was getting ready for his annual trip...but there were problems every where... four of the elves got sick, and the trainee elves did not produce the toys as fast as the regular ones so Santa was beginning to feel the pressure of being behind schedule....then Mrs. Claus told Santa that her mum was coming to visit... This stressed Santa even more...when he went to harness the reindeer he found that three of them were about to give birth and two had jumped the fence and were out heaven knows where...more stress. And then, when he began to load the sleigh one of the boards on the sleigh cracked and the toy bag fell to the ground and scattered all the toys...so, frustrated Santa went into the house for a cup of coffee and a shot of whiskey...but he found that the elves had hit the liquor cupboard and there was nothing there to drink...and in his frustration he dropped the coffee pot and it broke into hundreds of little pieces all over the kitchen floor... he went to get the broom and found that mice had eaten the straw it was made from. Just then the doorbell rang and Santa cussed on his way to the door ..he opened the door and there was a little angel with a great big Christmas tree. And the angel said: Santa, where would you like to put this Christmas tree?? And that, my friend, is how the little angel came to be on top of the Christmas tree |
We have a star that sometimes goes up and an angel that sometimes goes up... all depends on what my wife feels like putting on the top of the tree.
I once did a tree that was decorated in classic movie monsters... 6 inch Draculas, Frankenstien and Mummys... Skull lanterns for lights... you get the idea. Had a particularly cool vampire at the top. I was in University, what can I say. One year my wife put one of her hats (pink feathery thing) on top of the tree... it was a very cool tree. I honestly don't care what goes on the tree... |

Kind of the the same thing, or am I missing something? |
I think a green alien head wearing a Santa hat is best.
We've allways had a star atop our christmastree - but i bet my wife would love to replace it with an angel :)
my family up north puts a star on the tree.. my family down south puts an angel on the tree.. I prefer the star..
The star is to represent the north star, which quided the three wise men to the birthplace of Christ. The angel is to represent the angels on high (singing their heralds). Both can be viewed as correct, or not - who said the tree has anything to do with the birth of Christ?

My family used to put angels on top, but I have been converted to putting a star at the top after I got married. Admittedly, the angel was kind of tacky. I think the simpler the better, and a star is much simpler than an angel.
maleficent! How in the world could santa shove a tree up an angel's arse??? :D
Since I was just a wee dram I've always had a star atop the tree until Christmas eve. On Christmas eve the star was swapped out for an angel and in my upbringing I was taught that this is a symbolic gesture associated with the guardian angel watching over the arrival of Christ. :) |
We have done both on our tree... So it depends on the year.

We have a star, used to to the angel thing, but that got broken, and have used a star since.
Looks like its neck and neck, stars and angels. I think a star is appropriate, yet grew up with an angel on our tree. Hmmmm
I have a replica of the Red Sox World Series Trophy up there, right now.
We've went with both over the years, also a round-shaped lightbulb thing-a-ma-jig.
Now that is tacky! :D |
Every year our angel ornament has anal with the treetop, and the smile never fades...so we keep the angel happy and make sure she is firmly in place on top of the tree.
Star! I don't want to think about prickly bum-sex when I look at ye olde Tannenbaum.
both.... star for the big tree, angel for the little ones
Star on our tree usually.
We use a nice red and gold bowtie type thingy that matches the stuff that is wrapped around the tree with white lights.
No angle, no star, no religous anything. My grandmother (she holds our big big big family christmas thing at her place) has more angels on her tree then stars in the sky. Its almost more angel then tree. |
i had to go with the angel, more because my family has always used an angel than for any other real reason. i just can't picture a family christmas without that cheap 80's plastic angel adorning the tree.

Martin Luther, when he adapted a pagan Germanic custom to lend credance to the reformation... I was thinking that a Star (of David) would somehow be appropriate... how ever, we alternate from year to year with an angel (a present from my mum) and a long waterford crystal tree toper which is shaped like an engraved bulb, with a spyre comming out the top. very pretty, i think that it is supposed to represent a star. |
An Angel. It's a family Tradition thing.
I was able to break the 20-20 gridlock between angels and stars. 21 for angels now!!!
I like stars more than angels...but I couldn't find one I liked this year, so our tree has a big bow on top.
I prefer a star personally
as stated above, angels can be tacky |
Star, that's just the way it's always been. Though I don't like our current star. And it's tied up at 23 all!
The fact that this has been tied all along and every time I've come back and checked it's been more votes, but still tied proves my point... It should always be a star! :P
