I had a root canal over the summer...it really stunk. There were some complications and I was in the chair for 4 hours for one tooth. However, I had no pain (pretty much) afterward, it's just the procedure that sucks. (Though keep in mind you won't want to be working/talking for at least a day because of the medication)

I had a root canal awhile ago and it was no big deal. My dentist numbed me up and went to work. I felt a little bit of discomfort during the procedure. Afterwards, my face was numb for quite some time, but I had no pain. I didn't even need to take an OTC pain reliever. I took no days off from work and the next day I was talking just fine.

It really depends on how the doctor plans on doing it. I had all four, plus another tooth that was impacted, removed at once and was given an IV anesthetic. It wasn't horribly painful, but the biggest problem was the bleeding for a couple days. Good luck!

I had my second root canal in October. I was in the chair for 1 hour. The most difficult part is all the contraptions they put in your mouth. As I left I was offered Advil, which I turned down. No pain, no bleeding afterwards. The numbness wore off after 3 hours. Then, I was fine. Years ago, root canals took longer, and there was more pain involved. But these days, it's a breeze. Except for the price tag..........

I had my first (And hopefully only) root canal done about 3 weeks ago, was really easy and nothing like what i've heard. Had almost no pain during, no pain afterwards, and no bleeding or anything of such! BUT as Grancy said, the scariest part of the whole process is the money...

lemme preface this: 1. I hate dentists..2..i really hate dentists...3. I feel they are more sadistic than cats that don't just kill the mouse, but toys with it until it becomes bored, then kills it...4. i'm deathly afraid of dentists...
now...lemme tell you how my root canal experience went: 1. go to office 2. get a few shots to numb mouth/tooth 3. watch on monitor as he drills and cuts and scrapes away...i'm tense, but loosen up as i didn't feel any pain 4. get up an hour later after what he called a 'very complicated procedure" bc i had several smaller roots that weren't showing up well until you dug deeper. 5. wait a few seconds to orient myself 6. pay the bill..yes, this was the most painful part for me....no dental insurance.... 7...go home, relax, get the feeling back in, i think i worked that night....oh wait, no...i'm wrong, i went shopping afterwards and walked around and then went to work. either way, no real after effects other than a mild headache from lying down too long. no probs since then.
