These TV spots are well done but I'm not sure they would have much shock value. We are inundated with much worse violence in the media all the time. The only reaction I had when I first saw it was how silly it was in the business environment or restaurant.
I also don't think it will shock the older kids too much either. Played any of the first person shooter video games lately? I often wonder how these abusers get away with it. If the women getting abused have fathers and/or brothers, one would think the guys beating their daughters or sisters would not last very long. I guess anything that will help convince abused women to leave and not accept their circumstances is good, so they should go ahead and run the ads. |

I used to work with adult mentally handicapped people. One of our clients had been born 'normal', but had been so severely beaten as an infant that she was brain damaged. She had two sisters in the same boat. She was of the opinion that if you loved someone, you beat the hell out of them. Guess who she developed a crush on? Assuming that there will be audience members who are being abused, maybe showing the ads to the people who are 'getting away from their problems' by watching television will wake them up to the reality of their problem, and cause them to seek either help or escape. The better reason to show it I say.

Too bad that something like this is not aired due to the shock value yet shock is perfectly acceptable in entertainment. I guess the people who wish to see this put away figure that abuse will go away if we ignore it.

As I said before - I'd air it and I wouldn't freak if my 4 yr old daughter saw it. I don't know if I'd purposely bring her in to see it but if it happened I wouldn't be upset about it. She can handle it.

And also the comment about abusers being out getting drunk, some drink of course but most present very upstanding, normal faces to society. They aren't the fat slobs at the bar. They are your neighbors. The guy at the bank or whose kids play ball with yours. He's a great guy...nice, easygoing...unless you live with him.

[QUOTE=JustDisGuy]Well, sadly a lot of the women that marry these wastes of skin are the product of a home with an abusive parent. They say that family violence is a cyclical phenomenon, and that it's a difficult cycle to break. For lots of the victims, the ongoing abuse is simply 'normal' - they've been getting beaten all of their lives. If someone loves you - they beat you.
crazy... Thats a sad way to live your life. Thanks for the input |
