Were you planned?
I was just wondering how interesting it would be to find out whether I was planned or not. I have no idea, and I haven't asked yet. Who all knows whether they were or weren't? I hope I'm being specific enough, but just in case I'm not, I'm talking about your parents planning to have a child at the time, or you being an unexpected bundle of joy.
edit: Fudge. I meant to make this a poll. Ah well. |

My parents are Catholic. Family Planning was exteremely important.
I -- arrived just about 9 months after my father's birthday-- I'm guessing I was an OOOOPS!.

My mom always liked to tell people I showed up because the pill didn't work but I was planned. (My older sister wasn't. HAHAHA)

It depends on who you believe...my dad once told me that my mom stopped taking birth control, and didn't tell him. So I was "half-planned."
My mom, on the other hand, tells me I was a SURPRISE, but not a mistake.

I was definitely unplanned - I was the "oops" that made my parents get married. I don't think either of my siblings was planned, either. Did my parents just not know about birth control?

...and, to answer the Q, no I was not. Mom was 16 when she got pregnant with me. They got married, and divorced 3-ish years later. Funny thing is, even though I'm totally glad I'm here, and have no regrets/issues with my childhood ...I'm a strong supporter of planned parenthood.

my parents told me I wasnt, but then again neither of them really like me that much, so they might have just said so to hurt my feelings!

I definitely wasn't. My mom was 17 and my dad was 22. They were not married. They got married in August 1979, 7 months before I was born. Which means probably the main reason they got married is because of me. It's all worked out though, which is obviously the exception more than the rule. They are still happily married after 25 years.

I don't think I was planned, per se, nor was any of my sibblings. The mentality in my family (and the old fashioned Vietnamese culture as I understand it) is somewhere along the line of "you're married, now go have some kids," so my parents did. After all, that's the only point of getting married, right?
Oh well, planned or unplanned, I'm here and I ain't goin' away.

Definitely not planned. When my mom got pregnant she was 15 and my dad was 17. Oops. I'm glad they had me, though. My mom had three kids by the time she was 20. This is crazy because when my mom was as old as I am now she had a 10 year old, an 8 year old and a 6 year old... while all I have now is a 2 year old.

I was an illegitimate love child from two high school lovers in Millersburgh Ohio - a long time ago when being unwed was totally unacceptable. Luckily...I was adopted by the only mom & dad I have ever known. Lots of tears & fears, but lots of joy, too. I used to feel like a huge mistake; until I realised that God doesn't make mistakes.

I was planned -- by my mom, anyway. I think my father would have been happy with no kids, but it was the '50s, and kids were more or less mandatory (or people'd wonder if Something Was Wrong).
Never asked Mom what kind of birth control they used, but it must have been effective because they didn't have my sister until after they'd bought their first house, six years after they married. Then, three years later, me. Mom told me she'd originally been trying for three kids, but after two Caesarians she decided not to push it. So I was the last. No surprises |

I was unplanned as was my younger sister. My parents, who I couldn't really stomach living together, managed to stick it out about a decade before rekindling their long since dead desire to desert each other. They get along fine now seeing as they don't live together, but for a while there....whew...

My older sister was planned, and that was all my parents intended to have. I wasn't planned at all. That was a nice thing for my parents to tell my sister and I when I was 10. Whenever my sister and I would have an argument she would always say, "well at least I wasn't an accident", to which all I could reply was "look at the results".

Absolutely unplanned, a couple of years ago I asked my parents when they got married (I can't remember the date) but my dad said take that and your birthday and do the math probably explains my birth defects too

I'd guess planned since my parents were married 2 years prior and I am the eldest, but I put don't know.
Never something that came up in conversation. My child, now 7 weeks old, was planned.

I was a forgotten diaphragm. My mom was pretty open about telling me the details of my origin when I was little. My parents got married when my mom was 3 months pregnant. Years later when I was going through some stuff from a storage locker I found the letter she wrote to my paternal grandfather refusing to have the abortion he was offering to pay for and ardently professing her love for my father and desire to do the right thing by having the baby. It was very touching.
