Baby Stolen..from inside mommy..

Okay..weve all heard of kidnapping...but i bet you all thought your precious little bundle of joy was pretty much safe from that risk untill he/she was OUT...

Think again...

BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) -- Police said Tuesday they have arrested a woman in the abduction of an unborn baby who was cut from its mother's womb while she was unconscious.

Sol Angela Cartagena said she was with her 2-year-old daughter when she had a drink at a hospital cafeteria in Girardot, southwest of Bogota, and suddenly felt lightheaded.

"When I woke up I was in the countryside with my 2-year-old daughter beside me," the woman told RCN TV, adding that someone had performed a Caesarean section on her and taken her baby.

Carlos Cespedes, a gynecologist, confirmed that someone had removed Cartagena's baby. Apparently Cartagena had been drugged, causing her to black out before the operation. It was unclear where it was performed, but authorities said Cartagena was lucky to be alive.

"This is the strangest thing I've seen in my professional career, and I believe this patient had all the luck in the world in not dying before getting to the hospital," he said.

Police officer Gustavo Silva said the woman who allegedly stole the baby was found due to tips and that prosecutors are now handling the case. People who had seen the unidentified woman with a baby wrapped in a sheet called authorities because they knew she had not been pregnant and they did not know where the baby had come from.

The baby was dehydrated but otherwise reported in good condition.

No other details on the case were available.

Colombia has the world's highest kidnapping rate, with more than 3,000 abductions a year, but authorities said they knew of no other case here where an unborn child was abducted.

thoughts? is this any worse then stealing a baby whos already been born?

personally this really freaked me out...

Personally. I don't beleive it.
Seems like an awfully huge amount of effort, when stealing a newborn would be so much simpler.
I'll have to wait for some more confirmation, until then this falls in the "bathtub of ice/kidney removal" stories.

This has happened several times in the US. I collect true crime books and one of them has the story of a woman who convinced people she was preggie then kidnapped a woman from church and did a c-section with car keys...killing the woman...then taking the baby and trying to convince the hospital she'd delivered the baby herself

then there is this story

In this story:

RAVENNA, Ohio (CNN) -- A week-old baby boy who was cut from the womb of his slain mother was released from a hospital Thursday, carried by his father. Michelle Bica, a neighbor who was caring for the child as her own and is suspected in the gruesome crime, committed suicide earlier this week.

The infant, named Oscar, cried briefly as a nurse and others strapped him into a car seat outside Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio.

Neighbors were skeptical when Bica said she had given birth -- so the heavyset woman showed them a baby boy last week to prove it.

But as police pieced together the truth, it now appears that Bica shot and killed Theresa Andrews, a pregnant neighbor, before slashing open the woman's womb and removing the baby in a brutal Caesarean section.
Bica
Michelle Bica lied to her neighbors, saying that she had just given birth to a baby boy
'She didn't look pregnant'

Authorities say Bica may have convinced her husband that she was pregnant because of her size.

She told her husband, Thomas, the baby was theirs and that she had given birth while he was working, Detective Greg Francis said Wednesday.

Blood samples from the infant and the presumed father, Jon Andrews, were being analyzed to confirm a genetic match. Results were expected Friday. Coroner Roger Marcial said a tissue sample also was taken from Theresa Andrews during an autopsy to help identify her as the baby's mother.

Bica, 39, killed herself Tuesday as police arrived to question her about the week-old disappearance of Theresa Andrews, who lived a few blocks away.

Andrews' body was later found buried in the dirt floor of Bica's garage, and the 8-pound, 6-ounce baby boy was found alive inside her home.

While Thomas Bica told police he believed his wife's story of giving birth, the couple's neighbors weren't so accepting.

"She kept telling neighbors she was pregnant and we couldn't get over it because she didn't look pregnant," said a woman who lives nearby. "Then, Monday she went over and said, 'Well, here's my baby.'"

No suicide note

The coroner said Andrews was shot once in the back and likely died instantly. The .22-caliber bullet matched ammunition in the gun Bica used to kill herself.

Bica left no note of explanation, Francis said.

Prosecutor Victor Vigluicci said the baby probably was delivered September 27, the day Andrews disappeared in Ravenna, a city of about 12,000 some 30 miles southeast of Cleveland.

The baby's due date was October 4.

The day Theresa Andrews disappeared, she had paged her husband at work and said a woman had called inquiring about a Jeep they were trying to sell. After Bica and Theresa Andrews met for a test drive, the pregnant woman was never seen again.

Jon Andrews, a sheet-metal worker, told police that when he got home that afternoon, the vehicle was gone and his wife was missing. Police found the vehicle about a block away and later found the Jeep keys in Bica's purse.

A series of cellular phone calls to the Andrews' house led police to Bica. There was no indication the women had known each other.

Thomas Bica, 41, a county corrections officer, was questioned and released. He had met his wife in 1994 while she served a jail sentence for receiving stolen property, Vigluicci said.

not so much laugh out loud funny, just humorous, and mainly because it is complete BS. I don't believe that someone would go through that much trouble just for a baby. There is either more to the story, or it is complete BS.

either way, I may just have a sick sense of humor.

The strange thing is that the person who stole it was a woman. I'm sure she could have found some horny bastard to knock her up if she spread her legs. If it were a guy who did it i would understand (somewhat).

I'd guess she just wanted to bypass the whole "carrying a child for 9 months" thing. Because i'm sure that has to be a pretty shitty thing to go through.

I hear ya elwood. The woman in the article that shot the pregnant woman and took her baby got off easy, commiting suicide. If I knew someone that did this to someone I knew, whether or not they were related to me in any way, I would hurt them. The whole "vigilanteism is wrong" argument is bullshit, because its not an eye for an eye for an eye, its you try to blind me i fucking kill you. Kinda got off topic there heheh.
