Whether it would make any lasting difference in the community remains to be seen. I bet the "Tourist" numbers drop eventually, the chruch goes back to it's original numbers or has a big split. The other problem with spending that much money on styrofoam - That's gonna cost a lot to upkeep and if they don't upkeep it it's gonna look bad. Really - I'm somewhat religious but this is shameful I think. So what if they give that much money to poor in their area - what about the rest of the world?? Just cause you give some money does that mean you can waste it on a roadside attraction to get publicity?? Really. I find it disgraceful. Sure it's cool looking.

On another note - I can't see our wire, styrofoam and paint can cost that much. $250,000?? Sure figure in labor but who on earth charges that much - Wish I'd been the one paid to do that. I would have tried to make it less chopped.

There's a sign on this statue that says "I once ate a burrito, this big!"

Very true, but when's the last time a strip club professed to be dedicated to helping the poor? None that I know of. Helping make men poor, sure, but that's a whole different thing.

If a 62 foot savior is really worth 250G.... Jesus better start dipping deep into his Fleet Bank Account.

Hmm, anyone else think that this reeks of a "My god has a bigger wang than your god!" type thing?

I think the one in Rio was also used in the newer version of Romeo & Juliet...
