SOUL PATCH: Nerd thing or Hippie thing? (poll)

A burning question has arisen in my life. Although it was originally sported by beatniks, I adopted the "soul patch" after viewing a high density of soul patches in the computer nerd community. So, is the soul patch still a hippie thing, or has it become more exclusively a nerd thing?

I'm old enough to consider it a hippy thing, not that it really matters.

If you want one, grow one.

(My friend has a REALLY cool one. he isn't really grey up top, but his patch is COMPLETELY white! Bizarre!)

Being a nerd with a soul patch I have to vote accordingly.

One of the Goatee'd ones as well. So I'm up for the facial furriness.

Except on the Laydeez the fairer sex should be smooth so I don't get velcro'd to them whilst snogging.

Undecided whether a hippie or nerd thing though, think its more of an individual thing.

And the caption for the photo: "I meet a guy with a “soul patch” beard thingy. It’s that patch of hair right under the lower lip some guys are wearing these days."

Too freakin trendy for me. I stopped shaving for a few weeks and had a decent beard, but then decided to shave it. I started from the outside in and was left with about what that guy in the pic has. I had it for a day until I realized that almost every freaking guy at my college has the same thing, so I'm just going to stick with a clean shaven face, thank you very much.

I had a soul patch for awhile and I am definitely not a hippy. I guess that makes me a nerd. I will accept that.

Does anyone else want to punch that guy in the photo? I hate trendy people, and he seems to be going for the Trendiest Guy of the Year award.

Currently, I have no desire to grow one, but I have nothing against them.

id have to say its a geek thing... ive got one, but just cuz ive got the rest of the goatee too. In high school it seemed like it was the only facial hair i could get away with, so i went for it, and let the goatee blossom around it.

A soul patch without any other accoutrements is definitely a nerd thing. I would say beatnik more than hippy, and to be proper beatnik you need a whole lifestyle schtick anyway.

A really poorly done soul patch is a *loser* thing - If you can't grow it, don't try.

i dunno... you tell me whether or not it looks good. i like mine... i can't quite get a full mustache (the fuzz is still too thin up there) so i just keep a goatee or a soulpatch... lately it's just been the patch. i dig it... now the question is whether i'm a hippie or a nerd. i hate nag champa and i don't know shit about programming. where do i fit in?

Soul patches suck. Everyone should admire sideburns more. Not muttonchops, but a good trimmed set of sideburns.

good sideburns and a nice soulpatch make a man soooo much hotter...or a goatee...mmmm...yummy. the best part about the soul patch is that it's not too scratchy like other facial hair tends to be and doesn't irritate a woman as much with getting in the way, etc, etc. Besides, it's always nice to leave bed in the morning with red splotches all over you from where your man rubbed your skin with his shaved face.

I've been sportin' the patch for a while this semester. To me it has'nt been about a nerd or a hippie thing. It's been about a time/lazy thing. Most mornings I dont have time to shave so i do a quick shave just from the sideburns to the chin. Leaves me with roughly what the guy in the first picture has except that I trim up between the moustache and beard.

Maybe when I'm out of college and can afford an electric razor it will end bur seeing as I have just decided to go for my Masters its gonna be a while longer :/
