Keeping a condom in your wallet?

I always keep a condom in my wallet. The one in there has been in a couple of months now, I've been getting them from other sources every time. Basically, someone has told me that storing a condom in your wallet is a bad idea, they don't like the heat. Google search returns a couple of sketchy urban legend type sites, so I'm in two minds. I'll play it safe for now and get fresh ones every time, but sometimes it's just not possible to nip out to the pharmacy and all.
So yeah, anybody have any reliable information about this? Thought it might be better here, I'm know most of my mates do this so chances are many readers of General Discussion will as well.
Thank in advance.

Keep condoms in a cool, dry place away from heat and sunlight, such as your bedroom night stand (not medicine cabinet). Your wallet or car is too hot for storing condoms. If you do carry a condom in your wallet for convenience, replace it often. Opening and closing your wallet, not to mention the pressure from sitting on it, will weaken the condom. However, it’s better to use a condom that has been in your wallet for a long time than not to use one at

I've heard several sources suggest that storing a condom in your wallet is bad.
A: Somehow the pressure (normally the wallet is in the back pocket) will crush the condom, damaging the material.
B: Like you mentioned, the head effects the effectiveness of the condom. So it renders it semi-useless.

I personally change the condom in my wallet every so often, surprises are bad.

It takes about a week before it starts getting less effective. Just make sure you're getting laid more often than that, and you're fine.

Always ask women if they carry condoms in their purse. If they don't ,ask them if they would carry yours until you are ready to use them. 50/50 chance they will say yes.

Yeah.
Try leaving one in your wallet for a week, and then fill it with warm water, and tie a knot at the end. Now, take the condom and "whack it off", and make friction. You'll notice water outside of the condom.

ah...interesting

I never knew people really did this. I only first conceived the idea from Dawson's creek, when Joey (I think that's her name - the character Katie Holmes played) find out that her bf carried one.

I can hear it now: "C'mon baby, if I don't use it now it'll be ruined! You don't want that do you?"

My wallet doesn't get crushed because I keep it in my suit jacket pocket or outside trouser pocket. However, it does get warm. Perhaps I could install a peltier cooled condom compartment in it! Or maybe not.
Suppose the solution is to only have one in my wallet when I'm out and about, and take it out when I'm at home. I reckon I'll throw away the one that's in there at the moment. Only problem is that doing this, I just know that I'll need one and not have one, resulting in a frenzied rush to the nearest pharmacy like last time .

Extreme cold also weakens condoms like heat does - don't leave them in your car if you live in cold temperatures during the winter.

Speaking from tests we did in high school health class way back when: temperature and pressure both affect condom durability. Leaving a condom in a wallet for more than a week is one of the worse things you can do it, second only to leaving it sitting on a radiator.

what do you need with a condom, you can just go without and have babies like me! Babies are good, they give you purpose and direction in life, and keep you from sleeping around with lots of girls, therefore narrowing your statistical likelyhood of contracting disease (condoms don't stop disease, Believe me).

personally I think keeping a condom in your wallet would be a bad idea... heat, wear n tear etc etc..

I prefer to get fresh ones as a matter of course and they are never around long enough for me to warrent their placing in my wallet anyway
