Brazilian Steakhouses

Ok so Dave calls me this morning to tell me that he's gotten the invitation to his company christmas party and was checking to make sure we had no plans for that date....

They are having it at a Brazilian Steakhouse called Boi Na Braza

http://www.boinabraza.com/

it looks REALLY cool (and pricey so its a place we'd never go on our own) they carry around the meat on swords!! (anyone who knows me know that THAT fact interested me right away) lol

Has anyone ever eaten at an establishment like this? This particular one has the location here in Atlanta and one in Texas in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area.

If you have Im interested in hearing how the food and experience was for you

(Im poor I dont go to "ritzy" places for dinner a whole lot hehehe)

SO GOOD!! I went to one in Denver and one here in NY. It's just my dream come true - all you can eat meat brought to the table fresh off the grill on a sword. Really most of the meats are pretty plain - grilled, maybe a little spiced, but not a lot of sauces and things like that. Oh, there was some sort of salad bar thing too...

There's one in Maryland Ive been to -- it's fun.. and other in Houston, you have to like beef... the one's I've been to, it's not a real restuaranty type experience, where the waiter takes your order and brings you your food.

Beef is brought out on large skewers and they stop by your table, if you have the green coin facing up, they'll give you more beef, if you have turned the coin to red, they'll ignore you... Basically it's an all you can eat beef place.

it's an interesting place for a christmas party -- the experience was a lot of fun.... Enjoy

There's a few here in the LA area, I've been to one and it's really cool. It was called Greenfield and they are a few locations around the country I think. This place had a salad bar and a buffet thing for side dishes. Then they brought all kinds of meat to the tables on the skewers. They had a bunch of regular type beef, but they also served rabbit and duck. Overall it was great.

Delicious. We have several in NYC, and most follow the same formula. They will seat you at your table, get your drink order, and then let you go off to the salad bar. The salad bar will have a ton of interesting salads with things like hearts of palm, mushrooms, and artichokes. Look for the giant bowl of shrimp cocktail. There may even be sushi. (Don't eat the sushi.) Don't fill up on salad, because the real meal is walking around the dining room. As long as your 'traffic light' stays green, you'll be givin the option of feeding forever, or until they run out of meat. I love the rare lamb and beef tenderloin. You may find the sirloin a bit tough.

On a side note, please remember that these gentlefolk are carrying around swords. I had one carver who was not exactly paying attention almost take a piece of my ear with the top round. I was not amused. Be aware of the sword, even if they are not.

Enjoy yourselves. It is definitely an addictive experience.

There is a Fogo de Chao in Chicago as well, I've never been but I've heard nothing but wonderful things, and supposedly you get more food than you could imagine.

This thread made me discover this restaurant. After reading a few reviews, I vow I WILL eat there sometime in the relatievly near future

I have been to the Fogo in Buckhead (Atlanta) twice. I never thought it was possible to get sick of meat. Not only is it unlimited meat, but much of it is extra rich. The salad bar is also very good, but don't fill up on that first. Try a late brunch for the same food at a decreased price.

To ShaniFaye, there is a place on Windy Hill just west of Cobb Parkway that is a local version of this. It is not quite as good with regards to the salad bar, but you can go for lunch for about half the price. It is not crowded, and you can get great service.

Maleficient, did you go to Green Fields in Rockville, MD? The food is great, but my wife and I can't make it home before we are shitting our brains out. Even the local morning radio jock says the same thing.

that'd be the one -- hasn't had the effect on me thankfully... though I generally only walk across the street to the Doubletree since i"m not home...

I went to a place in Dallas, TX. It was really great food, and so much of it. The problem is, I ended up eating much more than I normally would eat and I felt so sick afterwards. Excellent food and service though.

meat = good. swords = good.

Screw the salad bar - no matter how tempting the food looks! :) You want room for the meat. I made the mistake of eating the non-meat things the one time I went to a churrascaria.

tropple 11-12-2004 02:29 PM

The Best Of... on Food TV did a segment on one of them in NYC. It looks like the place to be if you love red meat. Otherwise, you might not want to go.

Personally, I plan to bring along one of those little electric scooters to provide the motive force for me to eventually leave. I'll sure be a rolly poley when I'm done.

thingstodo 11-13-2004 06:21 AM

I've been to a few and they are awesome. Actually been to two in Brazil. Wow!! There is one in Miami called Poor Cow - I can't remember the spelling but that's what it sounded like. The ones in South America have much better beef.

Blackthorn 11-13-2004 06:52 AM

I've seen these sorts of restaurants advertised but unfortunately in the 'Nati we're not as cullinarily diverse as other cities. There was a GREAT GREAT GREAT Mongolian BBQ place on the west side of Deaborn, MI that was a favorite place of mine to dine when I was working there. That's about all I miss from Dear-boring other than it's close proximity to the Windsor Ballet but I digress.

This Brazilian Steakhouse looks like a fun place to try.... "The gaucho way of preparing meat!!"

thingstodo 11-13-2004 04:09 PM

I live in the Detroit area and would love to know where the Mongolian BBQ joint is in Dearborn!

Yes!, this is the place that I went to in Dallas, Texas. I believe it was $50 or so a person though, so it's not cheap. In addition to the great steak/chicken, the salad bar is also great, but its hard to justify spending $50 on salad. I'm going to be back in Dallas this spring and I definately plan on going again.

Hola! That's mongolian for fuck I don't know what but hey...the Mongolian BBQ joint is on Michigan Ave (Rt 12 I think??) just on the west side of Dearborn. A quick yellow page search yielded this result:

B D's Mongolian Barbeque
(313) 792-9660
22115 Michigan Ave
Dearborn, MI

Great place where you pick your fixins and then take them to the grill masters who simmer your selection for you. Wonderful selection of meats, seafood and vegetables. Also -- there are about 15 different sauces -- good eats for sure.
