TFP is good for your brain?
While I'm only a new member of TFP I have been reading a wide variety of posts on TFP for some time now as a guest, etc. I have found a number of the conversations very interesting, intellectually stimulating and thought provoking. More than once in a day I find myself engaging my family members or coworkers in conversations based on information or knowledge I gleaned from conversations on TFP. Being Canadian I have learned a lot in the last little while about American politics and how the nation is so sharply divided between liberals and conservatives, for example. I love the discussion threads about shows like Survivor and Lost, and of course, I can't help but to peruse the Sexuality thread for some good tips on how to give my wife better orgasms, etc. (now that is a dinner conversation if ever there was one). The Philosophy thread has proven to be one of my favourites because of its deep often theological debates. If TFP is any indication, the moral conscience of the nation is anything but unified, to say the least.
All this to say that the internet actually does serve a purpose. I'm actually learning from the internet. And not only that, I'm furthering that knowledge when I'm actually away from my desk, no longer pretending to be working, when I'm with my friends and family. Kind of neat.
