Ladies what do think of

Ladies what do you think of guys that have their eyebrows waxed and having manicures done? The reason I ask I have been talking to this girl for awhile and she thinks it's the weirdest thing ever. I have my brows waxed once a month but recently had a manicure done becasue I was in a wedding. I was just wondering if other people think it's weird or not.

Well, it depends. If you're just getting your brows waxed just a bit, to get rid of a unibrow or something, that's just fine. But if you end up looking like this:

That's just bad. Poor Joey Lawrence!

As far as the manicure, why not? It's relaxing, and it's better than chewing your nails, right?

The eyebrow thing is just not very manly... it's just an aesthetic thing. It just looks "girly". The same would be true of a guy wearing foundation and eyeshadow...

That said, I don't see a problem with guys getting a manicure, massage, facials, etc. It's all about relaxing and looking good.

Plucked eyebrows? Definately part of the "gay" aesthetic.

So are you saying that it's "ok" to get a manicure, massage, and facial, but if you pluck your eyebrows that's too "gay"? If that's what you're saying it's a bit of a double standard there..

As a straight guy, I reckon there are men out there who really need to pluck their eyebrows - just neaten them up a bit, don't take them off!

I agree with Averett: if it's just to get rid of a unibrow or something, then I see no problem with waxing. Nor with the manicure, especially if you had a reason, as you said.

what's that term floating around that I totally don't understand? Is it Metrosexual?

Well I think pretty much everything is okay, as long as you're not hurting anybody. In other words, I would be seen in public with a man who waxed his eyebrows, etc. I don't think it's weird, any more than I think it's weird for a guy to wear a skirt - I've been seeing this stuff for the last 20 years+, maybe that's why. I might not find it personally appealing, or I might even think it's a bit odd, but not enough to say something, usually.

But he probably wouldn't be my choice of sexual partners, not that I'm into the "rugged" type but the truth is, I don't even get manicures and such. I figure the original equipment is quite fine, and I've never been into all that girly stuff, personally. I'm sure life would have been different for me if I had been born with a unibrow or something, but I wasn't. I find excessive grooming time off-putting in a potential sexual partner, male or female.

That's Joey Lawrence?!?! Wow.

As for me, it'd take a real need for me to see the worth in getting anything like that done. I prefer a society in which people are more accepting of their bodies, not less.

And on the Gay thing.... People really need to let that go. It's not "gay" if a man, or woman, takes it upon themselves to make themselves look better.

why the heck is it gay? I see a lot of guys at my nail/wax/tan place that in NO way would be considered gay, sometimes Im the ONLY female in there....and since I know cj22009 I'll go ahead and say he doesnt look gay either.

Why is it "gay" for a man to take pride in what he looks like?

It's not weird, and it's definitely not gay. There is nothing wrong with taking an interest in your appearance, whether it's to wax your brows or let them grow all over your forehead. To each his/her own.

I am wondering when and where we decided that pampering yourself is "gay" in the first place. With all due respect, those of you who associate waxing eyebrows and getting manicures with being "gay" seriously need to grow up. You want to know why there is such a stigma and closemindedness about being homosexual? It is because of comments like that that place people of different sexual preferences in a bad light. Oh, and I am a very straight male who does pluck to keep the unibrow from taking over my forehead.

Now that I am off my high horse, I don't think it is weird at all. Whatever floats your boat dude!

Let's not forget, it used to be quite fashionable for men to wear makeup such as eyeliner.

I'd prefer a society where people are simply accepting of their appearance (within reason of course), but if I can't have that I'd at least like a society where men and women are free to do things without judgement of it being too "gay" or whatever. I see no reason why there should be a social stigma regarding men waxing their unibrow or wearing makup or a skirt or whatever.

Hubby's gonna kill me for this but... I've given him a manicure and a pedicure. He bites his nails and tears his toenails (gotten ingrown nails more than once cause of it) so he sometimes needs a little more care of them. I've buffed his fingernails till they looked almost polished. I think a well groomed man just looks more attractive. Torn ratty nails or jagged edges aren't nice to feel when you touch either. It's about grooming. Now it you went to get pink nailpolish on your nails - EW!

Same situation here. My girl does the same thing to my nails as I am also a biter. It's kinda cool actually. Were it not for her I'd just resort to being a scruffy-looking slob again. I think she takes pride in the fact that she's able to maintain me.

I don't know, if you are a guy and you get a facial... You kind of have to be gay. Or Bi I guess. But either way you are jacking someone off and letting it land all over your face.

I do too feel pride in how he looks. I don't blab it around. In fact I think I've only told two people in person besides posting on here. I don't know about you but hubby says that it actually feels good when I'm buffing and all and he likes how smooth the nails feel. Don't you hate that feeling when you pick up a shirt and your fingernails catch on it? Well this solves it.

I see nothing wrong with it at all, if a man wants to spend a day at the spa, I think he should just go right ahead. In fact, I am often more attracted to men who take really good care of themselves, so really the gay argument just doesn't work at all.

You can also look at it from an anthropological aspect.
People need to be touched, and one way to do it is through the grooming you can get at salons.

I can touch myself, thank you very much. *runs off to live as a hermit*

What's the deal with manicures anyways? Give me 2 minutes and a pair of nail clippers, and voila! Quick, cheap, and looks fine.

As far as the brow goes, I just pluck stray hairs that attempt to bridge the gap.

I'm a little surprised nobody's brought it up yet, but I remember seeing a movie years ago in Sociology class where the men of some tribe on the African continent were the ones who were wearing the make-up and dressing in fancy garments instead of the women. It had nothing to do with homosexuality; in fact, they did so to attract women- not each other.

I totally agree. I have not done much research of the idoit culture, but you seem to know what you are talking about. I think we should blame them for stuff like this. If they had not come up with a word to describe it, we would have never been able to wax our eyebrows because we would not have been able to explain what we want done to us!

Also, I hate red as well.

I see no double standard at all... If you read what I said.

"Plucked eyebrows? Definately part of the "gay" aesthetic."

In my opinion, plucked eyebrows... represent a gay aesthetic. I am not refering to the removal of a unibrow here. I am refering to Mr. Lawrence's sculpted eyebrows as displayed above.

I do not think some *is* gay if they do this, I simply thing it is an aesthetic choice that *reads* gay.
Much as:
Tight fitting black clothing, tattoos, heavy black eyeliner, etc. is a Goth aesthetic.
Overalls, trucker hat, work boots and flannel plaid shirt are a Farmer aesthetic.

We all assume certain guises in the aesthetic choices we make (clothing, haircuts, makeup, tattoos, etc.).

The issue isn't that someone likes to take care of how they look... I love it when I have time to go to the spa and relax. As a nail biter, I could use a manicure (although it would go to waste as I would likely just gnaw away the results )

I use good shaving lotions and skin creams. I spend time shopping for clothes and like to look good. Yes, I have even been called a metrosexual (the fact that I drive a scooter probably compounds this...).

I still argue that under the current aesthetic trend (which could change is a lot more men start to sculpt their eyebrows as women currently do) men with sculpted eyebrows display what is arguably a gay aesthetic.

I grew up in a family of farmers and carpenters and I didn't know that a man's hands could look as clean as a woman's. In all honesty, I've met many men who had better looking hands than myself. (Granted, I'm really hard on my hands.) And plucking/waxing is definitely better than unibrow, but from the picture above I'd say there is a limit.
