TFP = Utopia?

So I've been sitting here (slightly buzzed) browsing the TFP for a bit and I was in the Tilted portraits section and I was just browsing the massive thread here and realized how diverse the community is here. Sadly, physical appearence still seems to matter in our society more than who you really are on the inside, but here the playing field seems rather leveled. Not to quote cliche's but the whole "birds of a feather flock together" thing holds, people who dress and body decorate (piercings etc) often seem to do similar to their respective groups of friends. Not that this is a bad thing, as it generally signifies that they share the same interests, however here, we all seem to get along fine, and theres people from a plethora of...I don't even know what to call it? I don't want to say cliques, but I don't know, maybe social groups. It makes me proud to be a member and I just wanted to share my appreciation for what the TFP has done.

It may not be THE utopia, but it's pretty damn close.

I agree with most of what you said, only this can't technically be a utopia since we can't live in the forums. Or wait, can a utopia be a forum? not sure..

all illusions of a TFP utopia end in Tilted Politics.

TFP is definitely the best forum on the internet in my opinion. That's a utopia to me

Can it be a utopia if we have moderators and people that enforce rules? I might be off on the definition of a utopia but wouldn't the need, or even just the existence, of rules and enforces of rules make it not a utopia?

Tilted Politics is ruled by civil discourse as are all other forums here. Ensuring that is a significant part of what staff does on a daily basis to keep us from descending into a dystopian state.

Maybe it is an overstatment to say "we get along all the time" and such, but at least most of the disagreements tend to be considerably more mature than 99% of the rest of the internet. Guess we have the mods to thank for that.

Well, no, we'd have the members who choose to be relatively civil to each other.

We'd be thanking the mods for reining in those who chose to stop being civil, or never make the choice to be so in the first place. Thanks Mods!

Thanks Members!

Agreed...the members of TFP are what makes the difference. Utopia....well....no. But that does not take away from the incredible diversity, and Real community of this place. Our members are to be applauded for self control and respect.

I certainly think so... one christian-based analogy could be: heaven is a utopia, and God is there to keep things in order.

idk why that's the first thing that came to mind, since I'm agnostic... /shrug

I think technically a utopia can't be anywhere.

(I was just kidding Vitamin.)

Should I change my syntax? I was really just trying to express how appreciative I am that so many people from different backgrounds and "social classes" can come together and get along in one place. I really didnt mean to start a debate about what a utopia is, which personally I think the definition is going to be different for every person anyway...

While it's definitely an awesome place, I'd say a pseudo-utopia, or a quasi-utopia, and not just because I like using the prefixes pseudo and quasi either.

This just kicked off an idea in my head, and island, bought with donations, built by our members, where anyone who has access to Members' Playground can move in and join us. We can build a nation based on tolerance, respect, and commmunity, and eventually take over the world and force them to conform to our notion of paradise.

How's that for a wacky-ass tangent. Gotta love that ADD

As cool as that would be, I'm just not sure how well our "utopia" would work if we were to try it in real life...

I prefer my TFP online.

In tilted politics while there are strong opinions stated time and again I've found that most folks simply agree to disagree without being disagreeable. Credit and hats off to the mods for making that happen...TFP rules!

I would so live there. But we have to agree ona few things first, like type of government (I'm running on the assumption that anarchy is doomed to fail. Damn humanity and it's fallibility), type of economic system, major exports, etc.

How about a capitalist plutocracy where the entire nation is one big meth lab?
