Trick Or Treater turnouts?
I move around too damn much to know how many of those little kids to expect at my door for candy. Some towns we buy a lot of candy and get hardly any kids show up and then I gotta finish all that shit myself. Other towns we think we have enough because the last town hardly anyone came and and we get 5 kids every minute for the whole night. When the hell did parents start driving their kids to every damn neighborhood in the city to get some freakin candy? They end up carrying around 5 extra bags and when the thing is so over flowing that they can't fit anymore they get another bag. Shit I mean theres no way they can eat all that candy. I bet the parents are stocking up the candy for next year. "Get as much as you can this year kids. Next year we won't be able to afford candy" If not I must say it can't be healthy.

I live in a rather large apartment complex, so we tend to get a lot of kids. I also live on the second floor and am lazy, there's only so much running up and down the stairs I'll do.
I went thru a bunch of bags of candy til the mother of one little witch, berated me for not having peanut free candy - -because her little witch MIGHT be allergic... Lights went off, door closed- I've heard the doorbell ring once in the past hour... The extra candy I have is going to my favorite cab driver in the am to share with his fellow cab drivers -- so it's all good. |
What? How about she just go through her candy and NOT eat anything that has peanuts in it? People are ridiculous. Is this what parents are scared about now? They used to be afraid of razor blades in the candy apples but now little Susie might be allergic to peanuts! I guess in a way thats slightly comforting :)

Dave and I were at a party last nite (not halloween related....race related) we only had one group show up....good thing cause all we had was alcohol...nothing to give out....I thought about giving out jello shots...but decided against it ahahahahha

Fucking brats. Fucking parents for raising fucking brats. Oh well, more candy for me and mine. tee hee  |
this older guy, Gary that lives down the street from my parents said that when he lived in alaska as a teen him and his friends would go trick or treating with shot glasses... and would always get waaaay messed up...
|
So far, only one group has shown up. And I bought all this stuff. Ah well, to the office it goes tomorrow.

^ Yer giving people ideas (Jstrider)

im trick o treating in about 1.5hrs were gonna knock on peoples doors and give them candy. Then were gonna get 99cent plungers stick feathers into them and lob them at peoples windows.

I'm normally not so lazy, but I just turned off the porch light. After about three groups of kids show up wearing regular clothes, I kind of lose the incentive to get off my ass.
|
The past three Halloweens I was in college, and lived in apartment complexes dominated by college students. No trick or treaters. At my parents house there have been years where nobody showed up, even though we had the lights on, and there were also years where it was nonstop for hours.
|
So far not too many have shown up but lots em were little cutey pies :). One a the little kids saw me and came running up to the door screaming "Yaaaaaaaaaay!!! Candy!!!!!!!" and then they walked right inside our house haha. I started handing them candy and they were like "OH I like that one!" and I'm like "Yeah you like that one?" and then they just reached their hands in there and started grabbing. I was like "Hey now" Cute little kids
Asta!! |
It's cold and rainy tonight so I doubt there will be many trick or treaters here.
|
zero. :(
cynthetiq |
they drop them off in my neighbourhood, we got 250 or so. insane. the people beside me do up a lawn display, complete with a car and body..etc. last year was about 150 if i remember correctly.
|
we had 49 trick-or-treaters tonight, and i think we had 51 last year... so things in our neighborhood have stayed pretty consistent. i took 3 of my own out with me, so i think the end result is that we have more candy now than what we started the evening with.
|
Had a grown man with a mask on show up a second ago. And the 2 young girls and a guy...that had no bags :|. I was like "How are you gonna carry the candy?" Kid I know came up later and said one a the girls wanted to go out with me  bet she didn't know I'm freakin 20!
Asta!! |
I've seen a drop off every year ending in the last several years being a big ZERO. Most of the young families in my neighborhood are gone I guess is the reason.
|
No one is here yet, we have our porch and door all decorated, and we've carved two pumpkins. We even bought the best candy!
This is the first year we're handing out candy, and I was really looking forward to it. I'm really hoping some kids will show up. Our street was robbed this week (lots of cars were broken into, including ours) so i think that may have something to do with having no kids turn out. There are lots of kids that live around here. :( |
Had like 1 last year, this year we've had 15 in the last hour.
|
Light turnout this year in our neighborhood. When I took my daughter out earlier, it seemed like 1 house in two wasn't participating... and there was somewhat of a correlation between houses with liberal signs (e.g., pro Kerry or whatnot) and houses that were participating. Fluke?
|
in our neighborhood, it seemed like only 1 in every 3 or 4 houses was participating. as for the correlation between participation and liberal/conservative signs, it's hard to say. things are pretty heavily conservative around here. still, we only did 2 streets and ended up with tons o' candy, and the kids had a great time. still, it just seems like when i was a kid, EVERY house participated...
|
We had about twenty.
Half without anything cool on. Kids suck these days. |
Quote:
|
Less than 10 so far. Slow night compared to years past.
|
We had a decent turnout this year considering the rain...
|
So... do all of you have Trick or Treating tonight (Sunday)? About 2/3rds of the towns and cities in West Michigan have Trick or Treating yesterday, on Saturday. They do this whenever Halloween falls on a Sunday. Its a religion thing, this is a pretty conservative area.
|

Anyways, my parents do a tally every year, so they know about how many kids are coming by, then they figure out how many little chocolate bars, etc they have and can give out. Very organised. :D They're great on Hallowe'en, enthusiastic and everything. As to the "when" question, Trick-or-Treating is occuring tonight. This area isn't nearly Christian or conservative enough to give half a crap about whether it's Sunday. It's also a major city, which affects that aspect. |
But her comment was that the kidlet MIGHT be allergic -nothing positive -- and a polite person wouldn't scold a person for not having peanut free candy.. Heck if you look at a bag of plain M&Ms - it says very clearly on it this package might contain traces of nuts... I'd imagine all mass marketed candy does...
|
update: i had one pair of little witches about a half hour ago :D
Halloween is not a failure on my street after all! :D |
wow....people are so eager to give away candies ;)
We had about 15 kids so far, all have either full costumes or at least a mask. There were two toddlers that's dressed in the cutest costumes: one is a bumble bee and the other a ballerina (sp?). They can barely talk and their parents made them say "trick or treat" so it came out something like: "twick o teet," it's so cute!!! Update: make that 25. Still have costumes or masks...this year seems to be better than last year. |
We had a light turnout this year. But we are in Pittsburgh and there was a big football game at the same time. This is the first year we have not run out of candy. For the first hour and a half we get lots of kids in all kinds of costumes after that it is all teenagers with no costume, so we turn off the lights.

Definitely a zero here. I guess kids didn't figure that college students in an apartment would have any candy. Oh well, their loss.
|
ZERO! For the third year in a row. Its a nice windy Halloween night too, what a shame. I don't care though, I wasn't going to hand out candy anyway.
|
We had like 10 kids. It was pretty pathetic, especially because it was so cold half of them had their winter jackets on covering up the costumes. A few great ones though.
|
we just ran out of candy. fucking people here in town think that you get the best candy on the "good" side of town, so we get van fulls of stupid kids not even in costume begging for candy and then bitching me out for not having full candy bars!
i bitched 1 group of kids of for pounding on the windows on the side of the house. they couldnt even use the doorbell? fucking kids. another reason that makes me not want kids. other than that, we had 173 kids. |
Oh well, no kids showed up to mine. Granted I live in a student apartment complex, but I was at least hoping for some cute coeds or something. Guess I'll have to finish up this Gray Goose myself...
|
I wasn't around but my roomate said he went through 3 bags of candy...and with the peanut thing....she could politely ask for a something without peanuts.....
|
I live deep in the bible belt of the South. No trick or treating on Sunday. We had it last night. I get so excited about Halloween buying all kinds of cool candy, pumpkins on the porch, flaming lanterns in the trees. We only had 3 show up, all from the same family. The parents are our friends. If I had known that would be it I would have given them all of the candy I had. The letdown is such a drag.
|
We went through 54 full-sized candy bars, 40 caramel apple pops, and a huge bag of mini snickers by 7:00pm. We had to shut the porch light off :(

it's been raining for days here in oklahoma. some of the trick or treaters got to do a bit last night... but it was pretty much dead (no pun intended) here on Halloween. too bad, i'd be pretty disappointed if i were a little kid.
|
Zero, haha I love living on a college campus, people are too drunk to give a shit about candy.
|
Very nice night and despite being in a suburb with what looks like a lot of kids we only had about 25 kids show up. We are a little off the main path, but still surprising.
On the other hand I asked a friend of mine who said his place had a ton. |
there were only 38 kids that came today
|
We had one 30-something guy with liquor on his breath. He claimed his kids were up the street, yet oddly they never stopped by... That was the extent of our visitors this year. Not unusual numbers-wise, because our house faces a busy street with blocks and blocks of better pickings on the side streets behind us.
This the report of my wife; I was off with our son and assorted cousins and friends, tromping through the neighborhood of another family member with the poor judgement to live on a quiet street with lots of cul de sacs and very little traffic. :D |
It seems most parents now favor halloween parties organized by schools, churches, neighborhoods and cities. Controlled environment where you don't have to worry about the candy's purity, traffic on the roads or the (often) crappy weather.
Kids still get the candy, hang out with friends and Mommie and Daddie don't have to worry about anybody offering jello shots ;) |
Im glad I live out in the middle of nowhere. We had 0 kids come tonight. Halloween sucks anyways. Just another holiday for kids to bitch at their parents to ask them for costumes and then the week after Halloween where you have millions of children all over the country on a sugar high.
|
Currently staying in a B&B, and had a lonely kid not knowing what he was doing, come here... I had nothing to give him since it isnt my place... felt bad, oh well, darn kid!
|
None here, only saw a couple out and about and they were teenagers. Snowing a bit and cold. Anchorage has an indoor trick or treat warehouse where for a couple bucks the kids get to hit a whole bunch of places in a warm, safe environment. It keeps kids off the street and away from harm.
Last night, my neighbor had a couple pumpkins thrown across the street and broken. I would feel bad, but he didn't even pick them up after driving by them several times. As usual, his shit will litter the neighborhood until someone else picks it up. |
zero trick of treaters knocked on my door.
|
Dont you tjink it is just a lame commercial rip off, can someone explain the roots of halloween?
|
It's a pagan tradition. From the History Channel website:

I had zero :D Which was great since I had no candy and didn't want to deal with it anyway.
|
We're so far from the road that nobody knows we're here.
Nice quiet evening last night with no visitors... |
We had about 150+. I get tired of the kids (a not just teens) without outfits. This year's most interesting outfit - a 14yo with a free mammogram "helmet". Way too young for that outfit, but very original for his age.
I have come up with "rules" on when you are too old to go out trick or treating. It had just one going into this year, I have added two more: 1. If you have a B cup or larger, you shouldn't be trick or treating. 2. If you are wearing cologne, you shouldn't be trick or treating. 3. If you have a bookie, you shouldn't be trick or treating. The last one came about when two "kids" came up and noticing that we had set up a small tv outside and was watching football asked if Dallas had won by ten or more, and when I said I didn't know, mumbled that he was going to lose a lot of money this week as he walked away. Ah, the purity of Halloween. |
I had zero :( bad news I bought things I love, so my ass is growing as we speak :P
|
Our neighbourhood is a prime destination for Halloween.
We had somewhere around 150 kids flow past our doors... The vast majority had some pretty cool costumes. The cool thing to see is the new immigrants (usually from China) that try to get into the spirit of the occassion. They don't have the best (or sometimes any) costumes but the kids are just in awe that there are people giving out candy and that there are all kids of other kids dressed up and racing around... We always have a small party on our porch. My wife gives out the candy and entertains our various guests and drop in visitors while I take the kids around to trick or treat. While many of the houses in the area get decorated there are two that stand out every year. One house, every year has a new theme... last year they were the Pirates of the Caribbean (they build the bow of a ship, had lighting, sound effects and pirates duelling), this year they created a really cool cemetery on their front lawn and all dressed up as people who died from odd things (you had to see it to get the joke). The other stand out is from the next street down. A group of neighbours get together and do a musical number. Last year was a reenacted Thriller, complete with Zombies shambling out of the crowd to get their funk on... this year was Rocky Horror (time warp and sweet transvestite). They were awesome... |
I was 20 miles away washing brake fluid out of my eyes when it was getting dark, I was dripping blood on brake parts, trying to open a bleed valve thta hasn't been touched in 11 years, and trying not to start screaming obscenities with my mother looking over my shoulder when most kids went back home.
One bigass box of 3 Musketeers bars and one mixed box of stuff for me. |
Horrible horrible american tradition (no offence intented), it's just begging and now it's getting popular over here in blighty, nobody went trick or treating when I was a lad but last night I had about 20 of the little gits knocking on my door threatening to desecrate my house unless i stumped up the annual sweet(candy) payment
|
We had 15-20. About a tenth of last year's turnout.
I have so much leftover candy I could cry. |
We only had three. Soooo, all of the unopened candy went back to Wal-Mart the next morning for a refund. Thanks to my wife for saving receipts!
ART, next year the wife and I will be joining you. We're moving to the country and will be miles from any roads. If we get any trick or treaters next year, then they'll be real ghosts. |
5# of candy + 3 kids = 3 VERY happy kids
|
We are the "Good Side Of Town", so we're a Trick or Treat destination.
It was insane last night. I had the kids out for an hour and 45 minutes while the wife tallied 160 kids before she gave up. We estimate about 200 total. |
We live almost at the end of a four mile dead-end road out in the country. The last half mile that we're on, there are only five kids on that stretch and two of them are mineand we don't like the others, so it was quiet last night.
We have a party with the rest of our extended family, witha piniata (sp) filled with candy. The kids don't go away disappointed. |
350 ft driveway up hill.......no kids.....my wife and I miss the little kids dressed up all cute but after they reach about 11 years, they turn to little assholes in desparate need of ass whuppin....I would not be typing here today had my old man seen or heard of me behaving as these kids...

^ See if yer gonna be that mean we'd normally just heave eggs at your house from a distance and if you ever turned the sprinklers off, toilet paper your trees :D If not the trees I imagine those crazy kids will come up with something creative to toilet paper..maybe yer car or something. Whats wrong with just buying a bag or 2 of candy? Hand em out till ya run out and then just place a polite sign on your door that says "Sorry we ran out of candy :)" then Turn off your lights, close your curtains, and watch T.V. they only fuck with you if yer a jerk.
Asta!! |
Zero turned out here. I guess the kids prefer to go to the neighboring houses rather than the condos.

It's a very charming children's tradition here in Canada, and the kids are not too old to take part. I dont give 'sweets' to the teenagers. |
I love Halloween because it's mostly a little kids' holiday and is all about them having fun. I cannot imagine being so cheap that I wouldn't spring for candy.
|
i had about 50, give or take. some kids came around saturday night. i told them i had no candy and they had to come back sunday, THE REAL HALLOWEEN!! it's not like the kids stay out really late trick or treating. i don't know why some places did it on saturday.
|
I wasn't here for trick-or-treat, but from reading this thread, it seems to me that the festivity has almost completely gone to hell. I live in the Bible Belt, so of course there were plenty of people whining about Halloween being on Sunday. All I had to say was "get a life." Then there's trick-or-treat itself. When I was really little, like 5 or 6, I had a pillowcase, and I might have gotten two dozen pieces of candy in the ONE trick-or-treat. One guy came into the grocery where I work, and he said that his little boy got to go three times that week. THREE TIMES??? It is just turning into a way to promote greed. The lack of spooking kids disturbs me too. Moms not letting their kids do haunted houses and yelling at the one guy on the block that pulls the chain off his chainsaw and revvs it up while chasing kids just seems to defeat the fun that Halloween was for me. It was hella-cool to get scared one night of the year, and then get candy. Hell, I still get dressed up for the kids, and sometimes I even take the time to jump out from behind bushes and scare them. It seems like such a shitty, meaningless holiday anymore.
|
All I got for trick or treaters was a bunch of little bastards. Half the time they didn't even say anything, much less give a "Thank you" after I gave them candy. They just pounded on my door, held their bags out, then turned around and went to the next door.
Yeah, good costumes you little pricks. And you're welcome! But seriously, I love Halloween. Every year the costumes get smaller, and I get drunker. |
We got 10 this year. An all time high for my place. Interesting sinice we live in the middle of the 'burbs.
|
We have a very "young" neighborhood so there are tons of kids. Seems to be more and more every year. This year we estimate about 300 or so, maybe a little less. Not too sure about people driving into this neighborhood since it's kind of on the edge of the city, but we sure go through a lot of candy. Best part is, there's usually never any trouble.

I live in the neighborhood that I grew up in and of course, went trick or treating in. I remember how exciting it was me and love sharing that with my two boys. I notice each year there is a very big difference in the number of houses that participate now compared to when I was young. It stinks that so many people who are home just turn their lights off. Even before I had kids of my own, I gave out candy. Why is it that so many people are so self absorbed that they can’t give out a little candy to make the kids happy like people I’m sure did for them? Cheap jerkoffs!
I do however; agree that the kids/teenagers that are not in costume should not get candy, which is why I keep a bag of cheap bubble gum for them. I don’t punish everyone because of a few. We have a lot of really cute kids in our area and it’s a lot of fun to see them all dressed up. |
I noticed a few folks expressing a "damn those kids" reaction, so I wanted to play Devil's advocate here.
As I mentioned yesterday, we only had three trick-or-treaters all evening. We currently live in my wife's childhood home and there's an elementary school located straight across our back yard; we KNOW there are kids in our neighborhood. However, after talking to one of our neighbors yesterday, she expressed a sort of hidden glee that they had zero trick-or-treaters. She noted that we were the only house on the street with our porch light on and decorations on the porch, so it wasn't surprising to her that we only had three trick-or-treaters. She confirmed that we were the ONLY house on the street to have any trick-or-treaters at all. Please understand that these are the same people who used to send out their kids on Halloween all those years ago, but they now take pride in scoring zero trick-or-treaters. I've said it before, and I'll say it again; if you want to be a bitter old person, then you'll get exactly what you wish for. Damn old farts. |
I hate my street. You see its pretty busy, and i don't think parents let their kids trick-or-treat here. I can count on one hand how many kid's I've had over the past 3 years....
|
My son and I hung out at my moms in a large subdivision, while my ex took out teh 3 younger ones.. We did a head count and came up with 222 kids. My 11 yr old son countd for a while, and I'm pretty positive he missed about 30 or more kids.. so overall a rather good turnout..
|
Where I live, its mostly Koreans, Russians, Pakistanis, Indians, etc. There are tons of kids too.
We didn't get 1 kid. It was ridiculous. |
I had the same one retard from down the street I got last year
|
^AHAHAHAHA I dunno why but that was funny to me.

no kiddies in costume for me. went and bought the candy, waited by the door but nobody came. Went outside after the treating hour was over and realized my outdoor lights were off. DOH! Oh well I love candy.
|
Sour Starburst are now on sale. My mom picked me up a bag today and I immediately began binging them. I've already eaten half :| At least a week before Halloween my mom purchased a bag of Sour Punch Candy Straws...like the Starburst I opened them immediately and ate nearly the whole bag in one sitting :| I love sour fruity chewy shit :|
Asta!! |
lol we got MOBBED...i bought 4 bags of the mini milky ways, 4 bags of snickers (kid size),4 bags of bags of M&Ms, 4 bags or starbursts and 4 bags of penut butter cups...
they came in droves...gave 2-4 out to each kid (depending on candy size)... after hours of obsessive doorbell ringing, 12 year old boys stareing at my cleavage and 10 year olds replying to "take 2 big pieces or 4 little ones" with whos going to stop me...i had maybe 3 left..next year ill open teh door with a shot gun. |
