Trick Or Treater turnouts?

I move around too damn much to know how many of those little kids to expect at my door for candy. Some towns we buy a lot of candy and get hardly any kids show up and then I gotta finish all that shit myself. Other towns we think we have enough because the last town hardly anyone came and and we get 5 kids every minute for the whole night. When the hell did parents start driving their kids to every damn neighborhood in the city to get some freakin candy? They end up carrying around 5 extra bags and when the thing is so over flowing that they can't fit anymore they get another bag. Shit I mean theres no way they can eat all that candy. I bet the parents are stocking up the candy for next year. "Get as much as you can this year kids. Next year we won't be able to afford candy" If not I must say it can't be healthy.

Asta!!

I live in a rather large apartment complex, so we tend to get a lot of kids. I also live on the second floor and am lazy, there's only so much running up and down the stairs I'll do.

I went thru a bunch of bags of candy til the mother of one little witch, berated me for not having peanut free candy - -because her little witch MIGHT be allergic... Lights went off, door closed- I've heard the doorbell ring once in the past hour...

The extra candy I have is going to my favorite cab driver in the am to share with his fellow cab drivers -- so it's all good.

K-Wise 10-31-2004 02:18 PM

What? How about she just go through her candy and NOT eat anything that has peanuts in it? People are ridiculous. Is this what parents are scared about now? They used to be afraid of razor blades in the candy apples but now little Susie might be allergic to peanuts! I guess in a way thats slightly comforting :)

Asta!!

I had one group of kids complain about my selection. I told them I had some coal out back if they preferred. Didn't think too much of it, so, I kept the light on. Then I had a mini-van full of kids hit me up for some and then sit out in the yard for about 15 minutes before they left. I didn't think too much of that either until I went outside and found all the trash they left behind. Killed the lights and settled in for the night.

Fucking brats. Fucking parents for raising fucking brats.

Oh well, more candy for me and mine. tee hee

denim 10-31-2004 03:49 PM

So far, only one group has shown up. And I bought all this stuff. Ah well, to the office it goes tomorrow.

Now that kind of trick or treating I could get behind - and would even be fun to see the little ones getting liquored up...

Garrineese 10-31-2004 04:40 PM

I'm normally not so lazy, but I just turned off the porch light. After about three groups of kids show up wearing regular clothes, I kind of lose the incentive to get off my ass.

laconic1 10-31-2004 04:51 PM

The past three Halloweens I was in college, and lived in apartment complexes dominated by college students. No trick or treaters. At my parents house there have been years where nobody showed up, even though we had the lights on, and there were also years where it was nonstop for hours.

K-Wise 10-31-2004 04:55 PM

So far not too many have shown up but lots em were little cutey pies :). One a the little kids saw me and came running up to the door screaming "Yaaaaaaaaaay!!! Candy!!!!!!!" and then they walked right inside our house haha. I started handing them candy and they were like "OH I like that one!" and I'm like "Yeah you like that one?" and then they just reached their hands in there and started grabbing. I was like "Hey now" Cute little kids

It's cold and rainy tonight so I doubt there will be many trick or treaters here.

Cynthetiq 10-31-2004 05:23 PM

zero. :(

canuckguy 10-31-2004 05:34 PM

they drop them off in my neighbourhood, we got 250 or so. insane. the people beside me do up a lawn display, complete with a car and body..etc. last year was about 150 if i remember correctly.

grendel 10-31-2004 05:46 PM

we had 49 trick-or-treaters tonight, and i think we had 51 last year... so things in our neighborhood have stayed pretty consistent. i took 3 of my own out with me, so i think the end result is that we have more candy now than what we started the evening with.

K-Wise 10-31-2004 05:51 PM

Had a grown man with a mask on show up a second ago. And the 2 young girls and a guy...that had no bags :|. I was like "How are you gonna carry the candy?" Kid I know came up later and said one a the girls wanted to go out with me  bet she didn't know I'm freakin 20!

Asta!!

runtuff 10-31-2004 05:52 PM

I've seen a drop off every year ending in the last several years being a big ZERO. Most of the young families in my neighborhood are gone I guess is the reason.

flamingpeach 10-31-2004 06:00 PM

No one is here yet, we have our porch and door all decorated, and we've carved two pumpkins. We even bought the best candy!

This is the first year we're handing out candy, and I was really looking forward to it. I'm really hoping some kids will show up.

Our street was robbed this week (lots of cars were broken into, including ours) so i think that may have something to do with having no kids turn out. There are lots of kids that live around here. :(

Zeraph 10-31-2004 06:05 PM

Had like 1 last year, this year we've had 15 in the last hour.

adam 10-31-2004 06:14 PM

Light turnout this year in our neighborhood. When I took my daughter out earlier, it seemed like 1 house in two wasn't participating... and there was somewhat of a correlation between houses with liberal signs (e.g., pro Kerry or whatnot) and houses that were participating. Fluke?

grendel 10-31-2004 06:18 PM

in our neighborhood, it seemed like only 1 in every 3 or 4 houses was participating. as for the correlation between participation and liberal/conservative signs, it's hard to say. things are pretty heavily conservative around here. still, we only did 2 streets and ended up with tons o' candy, and the kids had a great time. still, it just seems like when i was a kid, EVERY house participated...

World's King 10-31-2004 06:20 PM

We had about twenty.

Half without anything cool on. Kids suck these days.

Yeah, same here. I just wonder why the drop-off...

soma 10-31-2004 06:26 PM

Less than 10 so far. Slow night compared to years past.

nospam 10-31-2004 06:34 PM

We had a decent turnout this year considering the rain...

anleja 10-31-2004 06:36 PM

So... do all of you have Trick or Treating tonight (Sunday)? About 2/3rds of the towns and cities in West Michigan have Trick or Treating yesterday, on Saturday. They do this whenever Halloween falls on a Sunday. Its a religion thing, this is a pretty conservative area.

Well, if your child might be fatally allergic to peanuts, you probably wouldn't want them to go anywhere near them either. Some people can actually have reactions just from the scent of peanuts.

Anyways, my parents do a tally every year, so they know about how many kids are coming by, then they figure out how many little chocolate bars, etc they have and can give out. Very organised. :D They're great on Hallowe'en, enthusiastic and everything.

As to the "when" question, Trick-or-Treating is occuring tonight. This area isn't nearly Christian or conservative enough to give half a crap about whether it's Sunday. It's also a major city, which affects that aspect.

maleficent 10-31-2004 06:39 PM

But her comment was that the kidlet MIGHT be allergic -nothing positive -- and a polite person wouldn't scold a person for not having peanut free candy.. Heck if you look at a bag of plain M&Ms - it says very clearly on it this package might contain traces of nuts... I'd imagine all mass marketed candy does...

flamingpeach 10-31-2004 06:47 PM

update: i had one pair of little witches about a half hour ago :D

Halloween is not a failure on my street after all!

:D

KellyC 10-31-2004 06:59 PM

wow....people are so eager to give away candies ;)

We had about 15 kids so far, all have either full costumes or at least a mask. There were two toddlers that's dressed in the cutest costumes: one is a bumble bee and the other a ballerina (sp?). They can barely talk and their parents made them say "trick or treat" so it came out something like: "twick o teet," it's so cute!!!

Update: make that 25. Still have costumes or masks...this year seems to be better than last year.

Clark 10-31-2004 07:21 PM

We had a light turnout this year. But we are in Pittsburgh and there was a big football game at the same time. This is the first year we have not run out of candy. For the first hour and a half we get lots of kids in all kinds of costumes after that it is all teenagers with no costume, so we turn off the lights.

Oh true, I'm not saying her behaviour was acceptable, just that I could understand why she would be so obsessive about the peanut thing.

mo42 10-31-2004 07:57 PM

Definitely a zero here. I guess kids didn't figure that college students in an apartment would have any candy. Oh well, their loss.

Rdr4evr 10-31-2004 08:10 PM

ZERO! For the third year in a row. Its a nice windy Halloween night too, what a shame. I don't care though, I wasn't going to hand out candy anyway.

isis 10-31-2004 08:11 PM

We had like 10 kids. It was pretty pathetic, especially because it was so cold half of them had their winter jackets on covering up the costumes. A few great ones though.

Phant84 10-31-2004 08:22 PM

we just ran out of candy. fucking people here in town think that you get the best candy on the "good" side of town, so we get van fulls of stupid kids not even in costume begging for candy and then bitching me out for not having full candy bars!
i bitched 1 group of kids of for pounding on the windows on the side of the house. they couldnt even use the doorbell? fucking kids. another reason that makes me not want kids.

other than that, we had 173 kids.

DelayedReaction 10-31-2004 08:23 PM

Oh well, no kids showed up to mine. Granted I live in a student apartment complex, but I was at least hoping for some cute coeds or something. Guess I'll have to finish up this Gray Goose myself...

merkerguitars 10-31-2004 08:48 PM

I wasn't around but my roomate said he went through 3 bags of candy...and with the peanut thing....she could politely ask for a something without peanuts.....
