Washington Redskins Predict Election Outcome

Did you know?

The outcome of Washington Redskins home football games has correctly predicted the winner of every U.S. presidential election since 1936.

LINK

The Washington Redskins have proved to be a time-tested election predictor. In the previous 15 elections, if the Washington Redskins have lost their last home game prior to the election, the incumbent party has lost the White House. When they have won, the incumbent has stayed in power.

This election year, that deciding game takes place on Sunday, October 31 ... vs. Green Bay.

I don't know much about NFL, but i will be going for the Green Bay Packers!

I follow the NFL pretty closely, and this one's a tossup. Green Bay is favored by 2 in the odds that I just looked at, so who knows. Personally, I think Washington has a better chance, especially at home. What a strange outcome predictor...I bet lots more people will be watching it.

I have a feeling the trend will continue...Sorry George but Washington sucks this year(I'm a fan) and I've got a feeling Bush was going to lose any way. So while it doesn't have anything to do with the election the streak likely will continue.

That's the way the human brain is wired. We look for patterns in everything; it helps us survive.

28-14 final, Redskins lose, and hopefully so will Bush. Last I knew, he was still leading in the polls though.

The polls tend to lean slightly Republican, in my opinion. With the Dem's registering more voters, it'll be really close, but that's for the politics board. I'm just amazed that this game didn't go into overtime...

To paraphrase John Kerry, "were it only true," however, when this harbinger was adopted, it pertained to the last home game before an election. Most people don't realize that the home games are now played in Maryland. The last home game that was actually played in Washington, DC, was on Dec 22, 1996---when the Redskins beat the Cowboys. Anyway, it seems if this were to hold true, then Al Gore would have served as POTUS.

I know, I know, splitting hairs, but nevertheless...

Now, now, it's not as if Al Gore wasn't elected president. In a far more presidential act than any of the acts prepetrated by the loser of that election, he opted to step aside rather than have riots in the streets. Let us hope, then, that this election isn't so close as polls would indicate, because I do not see that willingness in Kerry nor the willingess in the electorate to accept it, nor any reason why Kerry shouldn't press the issue if it comes to that.

Exactly, that's why this should be viewed as a harbinger of the popular vote, not the election. Also, I hope you are being euphemistic about Mr. Gore stepping aside. As I recall, he put up quite a fight! Hopefully, we will have a clear winner this year, as this nation, as you point out, could easily erupt into chaos. None of us want that, I'm sure.

I am a huge Green Bay fan, but because of this fact I actually wanted them to lose. I'll just leave the rest of my comments for the polictics board.
