Looks like HD is going to finally get tapped by the porn industry. Hopefully this will help drive down the prices like it did with all the other technology.

Whether his "Island Fever 3" will be remembered as fondly as the Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star" (the first video ever played on MTV) remains to be seen. But his skin flick does raise interesting questions about the future of the DVD biz --- adult and otherwise.

Much has already been made about the changes ultra-sharp HDTV will wreak on newsdesk anchors --- every nick and blemish magnified, foundation that looks like pancake makeup --- but no one spared a thought for the plight of porn stars --- until now.

"I had to tell the girls, 'Make sure you get a lot of sleep the night before --- I don't want to see bags under your eyes!' " Joone recalls.

The helmer says HD DVD is changing everything about the business of porn: HD costs roughly 20% more in post-production, and the bulky HD cameras mean shoots last longer, even if the actors can't. Overnight, skilled makeup artists have become a must; frequent applications are required for performers who, uh, sweat a lot.

Homevideo execs at the majors and Microsoft --- which helped with HD posting and mastering on the project --- will no doubt be monitoring sales of the HD "Island Fever 3."

That's because Joone's last experiment, the Virtual Sex series (in which one can change the aspect ratio so it appears the viewer is actually having sex with the star) helped popularize mainstream DVDs. With it, suddenly everyone could be a director at home.

"The way I see it, independent film sort of died in the early '90s when Miramax got bought by Disney," Joone says. "HD is changing that. I'm hoping people see sex as just the commercial that pays for the movie."

ROFL....it was only a matter of time before it happened but now I gots to see what it will be like. I still haven't seen anything on HDTV at all and its been out for awhile now and I frequently shop at Best Buy. Looks like I will be buying this DVD to see what the hype is all about. porn=good times

damn it...i thought my money 36' sony WEGA was gonna last me another few years before i had to dish out for HD. but this...THIS...this is gonna have me stopping by best buy and then the adult movie store on the way home tonite. bastards!

Since porn on tape helped drive down the cost of VHS, I'm hoping it does the same for HD! Now we just need a HD Spice channel.

DirecTV has one. I think it's on channel 98 - High Definition pay-per-view porn. I haven't bought a movie, yet, but I hear that having HD porn is not necessarily a good thing; sometimes it is better to not see everything so clearly...

It's true that generally speaking, porn drives tech. The internet absolutely wouldn't be what it is today without porn.

That said... I just really don't need to see porn in HD.

This is my concern as well. There might be a bad side to pron in HD. The old blurred VHS tapes do wonders for some of the not-so-hot women in the industry. Hopefully they will be selective on who is in these HD films.

Can't wait to see them though!

you just never bought the right porn

It never really did anything except give you more hours to watch from different angles. Audio still was of the main angle so it wasn't synced very well.

I think it's a great idea, even if imperfections become more visible. Hell. It's people up there. If I was after total perfection, I'd stick with hentai ;-)

I don't even have a HD tv. They're still too damn expensive. Since everything is pretty much driven by either porn or sex, this will hopefully help drive the costs down.
