Man Stages Invasion To Impress Wife
LINK
Sep 29, 9:15 PM (ET) EDMOND, Okla. (AP) - A man staged a fake home invasion so he could impress his wife by chasing off the supposed bad guys, police said. On Monday night, a 27-year-old man and his 31-year-old wife reported that two males in ski masks broke into the house, bound her hands with duct tape and put her in the bathroom. The man was not home at the time. He told police he came home and scared the men away, hitting one of them with a two-by-four. Police spokeswoman Glynda Chu said the invaders were a juvenile and an 18-year-old man, who had been told it was a practical joke by the woman's husband. One told his parents what happened, and they notified police. Chu said the homeowner told police it was a hoax when he was questioned Tuesday. He told police he was trying to convince his wife he was a hero, and had asked the two teenagers to stage the break-in, police said. No arrests were made and police did not release the names of the people involved. ***************************** I heard this on the radio today and thought it was pretty funny. I think that everyone would like, at sometime, to save the day and be a hotshot If he pulled it off, he probably would've got mega-brownie points! |

This may not be as recent news, but it goes in the same vein.

This really hit home for me, as this is where my grandmother lives and where my mom grew up. There's so much history in those buildings that is gone forever. The fire chief obviously ended up resigning, but creating a fire to impress is never a good plan when you don't take into account the age of the buildings, and the fact the fire will spread much more quickly than you anticipated, thus getting yourself caught. In fact, it's never a good plan, period.

thanks for catching that, that's what I meant. Although that area is so rural, they could be the same person in some of the smaller towns

Those stories I've heard too. Unfortunately, that happens all too often, not just in Lanesboro, firefighters setting fires only to arrive on the scene and heroically put them out.
Here's a link to FEMA's Fire Administration where you can view a report (3.5MB PDF) that discusses the problem of Firefighter Arson. There is a brief overview on the page for those who can't view the PDF or don't want to wait for the d/l. -Mikey |

Ha ha this is sorta cool. It reminds me of the movie Maverick when he pays the guys to attack him and lose to make him look awesome in front of everyone. I bet it scared the piss outta the wife, but man, the husband woulda been the superhero of the year if the plan succeeded!
-Lasereth *EDIT* AHH!! My friend didn't log out when he left work. This really is Lasereth!

They are talking about at least making this guy pay for the cost of the police search. This guy is a teacher and he asked 2 students from the school where he teaches at to pose as the robbers. He told them it was just a joke. Some educator, huh? OK breeds the best!

Uh-huh...I'm sure that she was real impressed.
I'm thinking that they should've released his name, though. The sheer embarasment of it all, should be almost enough punishment for being such an idiot.

for the past couple of years we actually have had about one home invasion here a month, durring the summer- its almost unheard of during the fall or winter- I live in columbia, MO, a college town , so its kinda stupid as all the homes hit have been low income or college apts. last one I heard of the guys kicked in the door- and took all the money at the house, a whopping $9- generally stupid, dangerous behavior... lucky the kids did not get shot.....
