Maybe it was because he was an old coot? Perhaps in Malaysia old coots yell at monkies to stop picking their fruit instead of yelling at those damn kids to get off their lawn?

It's a good job she died. She'd be pretty pissed off if she was alive, especially when the whole "Why did you shoot me?" conversation comes up.

She even used a ladder to get into the tree.. And generally I think monkeys can manage without ladders.

It's interesting because it was a shotgun, so the guy had to be reasonably close, as opposed to using something like a high powered sniper rifle, which he would have to zoom in anyway to identify his target. Either way, you'd think he'd notice.

Maybe he just wanted to off his wife and told her to go pick some fruit while he loaded up his shotty.

I propose you have played Doom 3 too much.
Depending on what shotgun it is, it will do considerable damage at quite a long range, especially as the cause of death could well have been blood loss (if he fired the gun as a matter of course, no-one is going to check, and if you shoot a monkey out of a tree you aren't going to both to go and check up on it...)

It's true, I don't hunt, or support hunting, but I assumed that the shooter can at least see his target if he's in shotgun range.. or no?

It depends on the barrel length, shot size, and shot composition mostly. People regularly kill turkeys at 50 yards with the right combination.

I'm guessing this guy didn't actually see his target. He probably saw leaves shaking and thrashing around and decided to blast it.

When I first read this headline, I laughed for about 5 minutes. Its not funny that the lady died, its just the concept of mistaking your wife for a monkey.
