A 23-year-old Sylvania woman has been charged with rape and other sex-related crimes after being accused of sexual activity with a 4-year-old girl, images of which were placed on the Internet this month, authorities said.
Elissa Schuster of 6504 Cornwall Ct. was ordered held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $250,000 bond after a brief hearing yesterday in Sylvania Municipal Court.

In addition to rape, the woman was charged with pandering sexually oriented material and illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance.

Sylvania police Sgt. Mike Yunker said the investigation stemmed from a burglary at the woman's home, which caused him to look into the possibility of illegal sexual activity.

About two weeks ago, he obtained a search warrant to confiscate her computer. After experts were able to locate two images on the machine, he arrested Ms. Schuster.

"Some people think that when you hit the delete button everything is gone, but it's not," he said.

Sergeant Yunker declined to discuss a possible motive, saying the investigation is continuing. He said some charges may be added after the analysis of the computer is completed.

But he did say that, at this point in the investigation, there does not seem to be anyone else directly involved in the sexual activity.

Dennis Sawan, Ms. Schuster's attorney, argued for a lower bond, telling Judge M. Scott Ramey that the woman had no criminal record and had been cooperative during the investigation. He said she was prepared to surrender if indicted by the county grand jury.

Sergeant Yunker said police decided to arrest her because she is unemployed. "There was really nothing keeping her here," he said.

Judge Ramey said he agreed to the bond recommended by prosecutors because of the severity of the charges. He set a preliminary hearing for Monday.

Thing about her claiming insanity - if I were on the jury I would believe that she was insane. That still doesn't mean I would want to let her wander the streets WHILE being insane and I highly doubt there's any hope of rehabilitation in her case. She's WAY to far gone.

This hits close to home. I have a little 4 yr old girl. I couldn't imagine doing something like that to her. She would KNOW something wasn't right about it. I feel so sorry for this little girl. I hope she has a good home and people that love her the way she deserves to be loved. I hate the idea of ripping apart families but I truely hope she never has to speak to or see her mother again.

A Sylvania woman has been released from jail on charges of raping a four-year-old girl. Her bond was posted around midnight and she is free on bond today.

Elissa Schuster, 23, appeared in Sylvania court Tuesday on charges of rape. Police say the woman performed sexual acts with a child and then sent the pictures over the internet.

In court, Schuster said nothing as the judge set her bond at $250,000. Detectives say the woman's estranged husband found instant chat messages that described the sexual activity with the little girl. Police say he had nothing to do with the crime and tipped off police as soon as he found the information on the computer.

Detectives say after they served a search warrant and seized Schuster's computer, they did in fact find pictures depicting sexual acts involving the four-year-old. The judge in the case ordered that she does not have any contact with the young victim.

How does it solve the problem or make anything better for anyone to have people publically hanged or whipped? To me any use of torture as punishment for criminal offences by the state is utterly self destructive, completely immoral and without any moral or pratical justification.

Although I appreciate your moral code Strange Famous, I do think our world would be a better place without people like this. I am not for floggings, hangings or other means of punishment in a public setting, but I am not beyond having some severe punishment like castration,l or lethal injection, etc for people like this.

The problem is, these child molestations are becomming more and more rampant in our society. Unless you can offer another way to deal with the situation, then I am all for more severe punishments. Besides, you are comparing putting these people out of OUR miseries to that of molesting an innocent child. I can't say that killing someone like this is remotely as bad as what these fuckwads do to those children.

Inasfar as I could accept the death penalty, it would have to be on the grounds and by the methods you talk about - the elimination of certain elements of society that are decided to be unfit to live, a methodical and surgical operation.

To kill someone, the only justifiable motive I can find is self defence, either of an individual, or of society - and it should be done as efficiently as possible if it is to be done.

Calls for brutal torture to be given to torturers, public spectacles of execution, and so on.. just leaves me call. Vengence is not imo a justifiable motive or cause of punishment. And I think it is widely accepted by most people that the death penalty is not a deterrent against pathological or sexual murderers.

I agree, with what you say, that it needs to be done quick and efficient, lethal injection is one of the good ways for this IMO.

But as for "The death penalty is not a deterant against pathological or sexual murderers." I must disagree, You see, the kind of sexual crimes like this that happen in china are very much less frequent than here in the US. This is because of amazingly high punishment for these things.

What I "think" your saying though is that the pathological rapists dont think about consequences anyway, so this wouldnt stop them. That is true, and that is why crimes like this still do happen in china. However, the reprocussions for such things being so high, those that think "oh I'll get away with it" will drop, simply because the risk is so much too high.

Death is a 100% effective means of preventing repeat offenses.
