Auctioning A Domain Name

Hi,

If you were in the business of adult websites, what would you pay for ThingsThatSuck.com?

but for an adult website-- eh -- not so much...

I don't think so. Unless you want to objectify women or gay males by calling them 'things'. But if you do, then go right ahead!

It's not that YOU would be the one objectifying those people, it would be the new owners of the domain name thingsthatsuck.com that he sold it to.

What do catchy domain names generally sell for?

Also, not to threadjack, but if you had a domain name that was already copyrighted "Coke.com" for instance, could you refuse to sell it to Coca Cola, or would they somehow be able to take it from you based on them owning the brand name?

http://www.bitlaw.com/internet/domain.html -- lists a bunch of incidents that went to court over the domain name.. . I knew about MTV's incident, I didn't know about osme o the others

Has to do more with trademarks, from what I read
Quote:
Does the domain name holder have trademark rights in the domain name?
Is the domain name the legal name of the domain name holder, or some other name that is otherwise commonly used to identify that person?
Has the domain name holder made use (prior to the dispute) of the domain name in connection with a bona fide sale of goods or services?
Is the domain name holder using the mark in a bona fide noncommercial or fair use way at a web site accessible at the domain name?
Is the domain name holder attempting to divert consumers from the trademark owner's web site in a confusing way, either for commercial gain or in an attempt to tarnish or disparage the trademark mark?
Has the domain name holder offered to sell the domain name to the trademark owner (or anyone else) for financial gain without having any intent to use the mark with the sale of goods or services?
Has the domain name holder behaved in a pattern of registering and selling domain names without intending to use them in connection with the sale of goods or services?
Did the domain name holder provide false information when applying for the registration of the domain name (or do so in connection with other domain names)?
Has the domain name holder registered domain names of other parties trademarks?; and
How distinctive and famous is the trademark owner's trademark?

I dunno... Seemed handy for a site that would want to specialize in oral sex.

Frankly, unless it's a short and/or very catchy word/phase, I don't believe spending the money is worth it to acquire a domain name.

Sure. Why not? Sex is a business, as is modeling. Sorry, I somehow can't manage to view the typical porn site's stock as a somehow, beautiful and romantic act between x-number of people. It's created to be as titillating as possible and lacks any semblance to an artsy-fartsy ideal of joyous love ;-)

LOL, I love People Eating Tasty Animals...

On the serious note, it really depends on who's interested in the domain name. You'd have to consider the possible buyer(s) and what they're looking for. Just establish the fact that you're selling the domain and when you got nibbles, ask them what they're looking for.
