Reynosa no longer safe, U.S. Consulate warns
September 23,2004

McALLEN — The U.S. Consulate in Matamoros issued a warning this week that Reynosa has become dangerous for American citizens, but Reynosa officials countered that their city is safe for any visitors, whether foreign or domestic.

The warning came in response to months of complaints by U.S. citizens of assaults, robberies, abductions and forced multiple withdrawals from ATM machines — known popularly in Mexico as the Secuestro Express or Robo Express — reportedly involving Reynosa police officers.

...and they wonder why us gringos don't like to go over to Mexico and
work anymore...and this has happened for years..

They just set up a free clinic in Nuevo Progreso for the children...one lady
was hauling medicine---which you can buy over the counter in Mexico---
when she was stopped and thrown in prison, and her van was confiscated...
they said the cough medicine had a "narcotic" in it...

---no worry though---the federallys came in last week and pad locked
the place and said it was now theirs....
