Exactly! That's one concept in marketing, it's annoying as shit but it WORKS. Everyone knows Jared the Subway guy, and it's mostly because he's an annoying tool. Just like the Dell dude (dude!! you got busted for smoking weed!!! hehehe). Just some examples of how these spokespeople and the brands they represent are instantly recognizable, whether you like it or not...

I don't think anyone actually *likes* the Subway commercials, it's not like anyone stays up waiting for them to come on between shows -- Instead of writing an essay on how much you hate this jackass, here's an idea: why not write a short essay on Mass Media Mind Control?

hey, there was this cool SNL-TV Funhouse clip called Bambi 2000. it featured jared and is one of the funniest things i've seen. download it with some p2p program if you're looking for a good laugh.

I don't hate him. But I do not like how Subway capitalizes on his "success" just to have an advertising campaign geared towards exploiting the emotions of millions of image conscious consumer's who think Subway could *actually* help them lose weight. The company isn't interested in your health, it's only interested in making good business.

i prefered him when he was fat, and when those annoying subway ads didn't exist.
actually, i prefered it when i didn't know who some formerly fat american, who ate another type of fast food and supposedly lost weight, was at all.

Theres a small disclaimer on the bottom of every commercial that tells you that sandwhiches alone will not help you lose weight and it says you need to get off your fat ass and exercise as well.

Asta!!

Well I talked to me prof before I did it, and she suggested writing it on the actual diet instead. So I wrote about how the diet was actually bad for you. the only ideas I had was that it was boring, unhealthy, and expensive.
I turn it in tommorow, so well see what mark I get.
the essay topic didnt really matter. Its just to see our writing style more so.

My spin:

Small minds discuss people. Average minds discuss events. Great minds discuss ideas. Geniuses discuss all three.

Subway is still a fast food chain. It is still worse for you than other foods that aren't fast food. The meats and vegetables they use aren't going to be as good for you as a more local deli/sub shop because they use mass produced, cheap goods. The meat is probably more unhealthy for you than if you just bought it yourself at a grocery store, and bought some bread to make your own sandwhich. This could probably be more cost-effective as well.
