The why I lost my avatar or never have naked women on your screen at school thread

So, there I was Thursday at around 4:30 getting ready to finally call it a day at school.

I was at my desk in the Public Services Tech. Dept. at school and decided to look at some posts that had been written that day (I admit I am addicted to this forum).

I'm there looking and I always went to my avatar then would scroll down to catch replies to my post.

Well my avatar was 2 naked women having fun.

As I am searching through a thread, the dept. secretary, Kathy, and dept. head, Dr. Wallace, stop and stand right next to my desk talking. My avatar comes up and Kathy like stops mid sentence looks over and I am forcing the ever clogged ball mouse to x the screen real quick. I feel my face getting beet red and I just cannot look at anything but the screen now because of the embarassment.

Anyway, nothing was said but as soon as they walked away I got back on and deleted my avatar. So now I am looking for a new unique avatar but one that is clean so I don't have to worry again.

I didn't know about disabling them... damn lost my avatar and coulda just disabled it.

Not worried about others avatars because like I said I focused on mine with others I just zoom by. and in the Politics threads you see very few x-rated avatars.... mine and I think Smooth were the only 2 in there on a consistant basis.

My school doesn't care if people look at nudie pictures. At least, it has never been a problem so they haven't drawn up a policy yet. Score one for community college.

You should probably clear that up with your co-worker, tell her that it's this web forum where people post threads and do as they please. And that you weren't even thinking of the content that's on there while you were at work because you just didn't mind it.

That sounds like a sexual harrassment case coming on...

Have a discussion with anyone who saw it and a moderator/witness. I work for a University and we have to deal with all kinds of similar crap (I have to take a yearly sexual harrassment training course).

IANAL, but you might want to have a discussion about it, for your own safety.

Someone I know at another site,(who was a complete and utter moron), worked for a federal agency, and would spend some time on forums while on a break he claimed, where a few people had somewhat pornographic avatars, someone else happened to notice these avatars, and wasn't too fond of said moron, and complained. Moron as then put on probation, unpaid, for several months and eventually fired.

Turning off the avatars at work isn't a bad idea...

I was always told that the person being "harassed" has to let you know that they consider it offensive/unwanted before it becomes an issue.

In the instance of the moron I know, he claims he was never told, his supervisor was, and they made an example out of him (and also got the site put on the banned list as well) But the government might work differently than other companies.

Not necesarily. If I were to go over and grab my 18 year old H.P.O.A. assistant's ass, or boob, it's harrasment. She doesn't have to "tell" me that she doesn't want me to do that. Same goes for pornography in the workplace. It's "understood" that the workplace is to be porn free. Hell, I can't even put up some of my suppliers "bikini" calanders.

Yah, those bikini calanders create a "hostile" work environment (I got in trouble a few years ago, for having a poster of a bare chested male on my inside office door, that the only way you could see it, was to walk into my office, close the door, and move my coat - someone complained...

This was when I was in the Marine Corps.

Sounds like someone walked into your office, closed the door, and moved your coat. I would kick some ass for that.
