it's a pain the f'in arse...
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. I went to an agency a couple days ago, and they gave me a quote. I come back today to write with them, and they tell me I have to have 5 years' worth of insurance as proof! what the freakin hell! I'm all tense again now after I had a nice relaxing week....

Try http://www.progressive.com/home1.asp -- you should be able to do most of the quoting on line -- and if you believe the commercials, they'll give you teh quotes of the competitors too.

I don't know if their policy has changed, it's been a while since I have owned a car, but if you had a clean driving record (no points, no accidents) then GEICO had really good rates...

progressive was like 2300 every 6 months for me when i quoted it,
Allstate is like $840 every 6.... Allstate was the cheapest, and have been easy to deal with for me... I did find it was cheaper and just as easy to quote with a local agent, plus you get to know who to talk to if you have a problem insted of just a operator. |

I've just been shopping around for home and auto combinations. We have auto now with Progressive. Aquity was comperable in prices but we used to have them for car insurance, had a no fault accident, and the guy who came to check out the damages screwed us over. He lost his job in the end but the company lost us as a customer. As for service we were in an accident once where the other driver was at fault. He had State Farm insurance and they settled with us and gave us our money within a week. They didn't short us either. Very nice to deal with. Right now I think we'll be going with American Family. I've been given several very good reports from people who are or have been with them before. They've been very helpful getting things set up for our closing on the house. Their prices look the lowest for everything. I also discovered that once hubby's liscense is down to 2 points or below (which will only be 1 1/2 years) then we'll be on the family plan. Home owners and auto combined will be under $700 a year for a $50,000 (in our area) home. The home we're buying is 1300square feet and 4 bed, 1 bath, 2 car garage - newly remodeled. That's a great price in my book.
Up until now though we've gone with an insurance broker. We've been very pleased with the prices we've been given and if ever we have had trouble with any insurance company we just tell the broker our problem and they bug the insurance company for us. The prices have been comperable to what we'd get first hand from any one of the companies.
