It is pretty easy to be critical of a faceless stranger, but I don't think it is right to call this woman a piece of shit, or whatever, due to her not being able to find a reason to get off her couch. I think people's disgust should be directed at her "husband." Can't he be charged under some sort of Good Samaritan law or something, for not doing anything to help her?

Oh, there I go, criticizing a faceless stranger.

It seems like something that would be in the movie "Se7en." Like, 2 or 3 of the sins rolled into one.

They're gonna have a hell of a time selling that house.

I always go to bat for fat ppl but I must say this is outside my level of compassion if she made a conscious choice to get this way.. I've struggled with my weight thru out my life but I honestly could never get to the point of losing my ability to get up and move around. She must have had some severe mental problem or maybe some weird kind of agoraphobia (fear of outside) that made her afraid to get up from the couch at all. That said I don't think we can exactly judge the situation without full disclosure of the facts. On the surface she is an easy target for ridicule, but I think there's definitely more going there.

Heard about this one. Good ridence, I say. If she was so fucking lazy she couldn't get off the damn couch for so long it fused to her, then the gene pool is better off without her. I know some people are just plain large, but that isn't just fat. It's fat and lazy. How many of my tax dollars went to feeding that thing through wellfare? Fuck her. At least she had the good graces to die.

I think that you give free will too much credit. To be that obese, she must have had some serious physical problems leading to the obesity including but not limited to a genetic loading for obesity.

And this woman is a very, very rare case. It seems likely that she had some problems other than a desire to sit on her couch and eat till she couldn't get up anymore.

I disagree. It is more than possible that she had some type of disorder (hormonal or otherwise) that could have led to her gross obesity.

I cannot believe the vitriol that is being directed at this poor woman. Good lord - do you think she ENJOYED being 400 pounds and stuck to the couch? I can't imagine what her life must have been like, or what kind of misery she suffered. Why are people so vicious about this? You have no idea why she was the way she was. Have some fucking compassion.

May you all come back with glandular disorders in your next lives!

Shoot them, and use my money for better things.
I can't tell you how happy I was to finally read this post after all the other bleeding heart nonsense that was posted before this one. You really highlighted every point that I was thinking about while reading the original story. What really floored me was the amount of effort they put in to building a fucking special device so they could get her fat ass off the couch and to a hospital. If I recall correctly I believe someone said something about burning the house down and I would have to agree that that would have been the best course of action. Oh yes, and before that they should have let some of the locals come in a take pop shots at her with a BB gun just for fun - I would have loved to have been part of that.

WTF???? First, I am dismayed that this woman got to the state of obesity she died with. There is no excuse for it, especially since her so called husband was caring for her. Where were her friends and family?

Second, I am more dismayed at some of the rude, heartless, and fucked up comments some of you are making about people that have weight issues. Whether they have hormonal inbalances or are just plain lazy, these people need help, not people like you continuing to bring them down. I do have enough compassion to know she was still a human being. NO, she does not deserve to be shot, she should not have the house burnt down, she should not have to suffer anymore than another human. I am noticing a trend of comments like this lately. I don't know if some are trying to be funny or legitimately have no heart. As my mom used to say, if you don't have anything nice to say, then shut the fuck up! Ok, she wouldn't say STFU, just sounds better.

Not having compassion is one thing. Being grossed out, sick to your stomach, etc...are all understandable reactions. Leave the aforementioned comments out of it and grow up people.

My 2 cents.

I wanted so BADLY to say something but it wouldnt have been nice and I didnt want the mods to have to edit it. Its really sad to know that some people can be so down right CRUEL.

Yes she was fat, yes its a gross story...but hell fire people...for someone to actually do something like that is beyond my comprehension

Ok OK - Yeah, the last comment was just meant to express my anger at how someone could let something like this happen to themselves. I woudln't actually do that to her, but I would feel like.

I don't understand how you can all feel so bad for her! Think of all the shit that she is putting on other people because now they have to deal with her now that shes dead. Also, why should we be so tolerant of something this rediculas and disgusting??? This woman took no fucking responsibility for ANYTHING and put it all on other people, including all the firemen and officals that had to spend their day trying to get her fat ass out of her disgusting house. Do you have any idea how many bad things happen to good people that really didn't deserve anything to happen to them? How the hell can you feel sorry for someone who just throws their life away like that? Theres not enough room for people like her in our society. Maybe if everyone else was living a great life and there were no other problems we could dedicate some resources, time, or even thought to a woman like this. But there are more important things going on, and this fat ass ate herself to death - so fuck her.

Imagine the poor landlord that has to get that place cleaned up for the next tenant.

A short time after New Year's last year I was getting my car washed. As they were finishing, an SUV pulls up. A stocky Armenian gets out of the driver's seat (I was in "Little Armenia" near Hollywood) and motions to the manager of the car wash place. They talk and one of the lowly Mexican car wash dudes comes over. They start talking about a price - I can see concern on the manager's face.

I noticed the left inside door of the SUV was messy - dark stains all over it. Some other stains on the window. Curious, I asked the manager when he walked past me. He said that a man shot himself in the head on New Year's Eve while sitting in the SUV. The Armenian gentleman wanted the car cleaned out.

I've always thought that sort of thing falls under "biohazard" with suits, masks, etc. This guy was trying to get a local car wash (and poor Mexican guys) to clean out the gore.

Very sad.

So um. . . .I take it your life is perfect then, or should we be equally heartless when you have a problem or twelve?

Sure, she brought it on herself (and btw she may not have brought the weight on herself - some people have a hormonal imbalance that makes them gain weight even when they're eating right and exercising) but I'll grant you that she brought the "I'm not moving off this couch" bit on herself.

look if she was too damn lazy to get off the couch , WHO THE FUCK FED HER ERRR AND WHO BOUGHT THE FOOD sounds a bit fishhy to me

I think a lot of the more reactionary posts here are assuming that this woman and her "husband" were rational, normal people capable of making reasonable choices. To me, aside from the gross-out factor, it seems self-evident that these people were not capable of making the choices that any of us would were we to find ourselves on the couch like that woman. Nobody chooses to suffer, it goes against basic instincts. Clearly they were impaired, probably in multiple ways.

Years ago I used to live down the street from a woman who had two adult children living with her...all appeared to be at least borderline retarded (or whatever the pc term is). The son was this skinny wretched filthy guy with really long fingernails that had a bunch of black stuff caked under them. He used to just come around, stand there and stare. Once in a while he'd say a word or two. My landlord's girlfriend told me that one time they went in the house to help with something, and his bedroom closet was overflowing with piles of shitty underwear - I guess he had no control, so he's just wear a pair until it was caked with shit, then throw it in the closet, which proceeded to fill up and overflow into the room. These people didn't even have the rudimentary sense to make a dump run and dispose of it.

I have to agree with skinnymofo...

There is no excuse for such idiocy. Medical problems be damned, she could've got her lazy fat ass off the couch when she weighed 200 pounds and tried doing something about it. Even at 300 pounds. She got what was comming to her. Shit or get off the pot, anyone?

Now, before anyone starts flaming me, I'm being utterly serious. Can you imagine this being YOU? If you can, get help for goddess' sake! If not, then why not? Because you get the hell up and move every hour or two. Even in my LEAST active, I'm sitting on the couch playing Halo for no more than an hour or two before I have to get up to piss! Why feel pity for this person?

cookkee... it's not a matter of never fucking up... but what she did was more than an impulsive mistake. To have gone that far she'd have to constantly choose that "mistake" every day/hour/minute of her life for YEARS! That's much, much more than a simple mistake. I'm not a heartless person, but I don't feel the need to help those that don't desire to help themselves. If she couldn't convince herself to get up to take a shit long before it got this bad, then that's just too bad. *shrug*

They're a real bunch of weirdo f*ckheads. I reckon this might be one of those cases and the guy is lying. *shudder*
