I think its pretty ugly. I like the current one, this one just looks bad.

I've never understood why we've stuck to a single color bill and no holographs on it, unlike a lot of money in Europe. It seems to me that the more complicated (more colors, watermarks, holographs, etc) the bill is the harder fake ones would be to make.

I agree, i would have though that the US would use more of the holograph type security features as well.

I would like to see money designed like some of today's high-tech looking webpages. sharp angles, perfect curves, color contrast... I want my money to look futuristic.

Correct me if I'm wrong...everybody else does. But, didn't we just redesign the $20.00 bill just a few years ago?

bill o-rights - they have been constantly fiddling with the paper currency, to keep up-to-date with the lastest technology in security. this current update doesn't look like that big a change from the old, which is a REAL shame. i've heard they didn't even bother hiring a graphic designer when they came up with the new bills--they just had a list of specifications, and threw them all together. which is a real shame--the one that bugs me the most is the big 20 at the lower right flip side. they put it in for people with bad eyesight. couldn't they have thought of something more creative, or less jarring??

Like braille dots?

I dunno....the big numbers on the one corner never bothered me. In fact, I think it adds variation as well as functionality :)

All I know is I want the dollar coin to catch on. They're still making it (you know, the Sacagawea one) and I really like it - and, frankly, a dollar is worth so litle now it's more deserving of a coin than a bill. Heck, in Europe, they even have coins for larger amounts - think $5 coin. And we need coins with two different materials like the Italian Lyre.....

but, I digress. Europe uses the Euro now and the character of each nation's money is gone :(

I've always been amazed that the US has such boring looking money (not that you can't have fun with it!). I love getting foreign currency when I travel but when I travel to the US it all looks the same.

My favourite was the 50 Franc note (France) because it had Antoine Saint-Exupéry and his Petit Prince on it... Here was currency with a literary figure and his creation on currency.

It just seemed so much more vibrant than dead politicians or living royalty...

We have the one and two dollar coin in Canada and it's really cool.

When I lived in Singapore... the bills were colored and larger in size for larger denominations. It was like spending monopoly money especially when the exchange was around 2S to 1US. Malaysian money and Thai money were really cool. Once in a while I'd get an Indonesian bill... :) fun.

You are totally correct in all of your assumptions. American money is disgustingly boring - same old greens and blacks - hard to tell the difference between denominations - it gets dirty and wears out. I have decided to remedy the situation - it is a brilliant plan and you will thank me later - Take all of your U.S. currency and stuff it into a bag or box. Seal up the box and address it to:

I don't care too much what it looks like.

For the record, because I was used to US currency, I always thought money in other countries looked unsophisticated, as if the needed colors were needed for decoration. I do understand the security reasons, but I like black and white, and sepia because I think they look classy.

I do want all the bills to be the same size, and I like all to have the same color scheme, so that a roll can only be judged by its thickness at a distance.

By the way, anyone want some dollar coins. I got a few for change in a post office machine months ago and can't figure out how to get rid of them. Sorry LD, they are too heavy to mail.

Having difference sizes and colours makes it a LOT easier to sift through your wallet and find the notes you need, instead of needing to examine each note to see what it is, a cursory glance will tell you.

The notes here in NZ are quite purty, although they were recently changed and are now being printed on a polypropylene polymer, which took a bit of getting used to, but it makes them last much longer, and it doesn't matter if they're in your pocket when your pants go through the wash :p

im with greytone here, except the 1$ coins, i kinda like em, but no one spends em...they save em for some reason, therefore you dont get em in change.

I l ike the new $20 bill. Like many people have said, its harder to forge, and it has a little more character. I always thought US currency was so boring compared to other countries. So, change away! :)

I actually use cash, maybe...twice a month.

My debit card is used at 98% of the retail etablishements I visit. There are two companies I pay monthly that get checks, the rest are paid electronically through the web. Only one of the bills <i>has</i> to be paid with a check (no web option), the other I'm just to lazy to set up the web access, and they have a stupid, hard to use web site.

I really don't care what the money looks like. I <i>never</i> seem to have cash. There is a 7-11 we frequent at work. The one time I did pay with cash Josh, the clerk, said he'd mark that day on the calender.

I do like the dollar, and two dollar coinage the Canadians use. I'm all for it. Abolish the penny while you're at it, I hate those damn things.

The new twenty is fine, if uninspired and vapid, but I don't think I'll actually use one this year. Maybe next.

greytone, you can spend a dollar coin anywhere - it's normal legal currency. Just go to the store and get a candy bar or something.

As for bills being different sizes, that's one thing I don't want to see in our money. Aside for the reasons already mentioned here, it's simply a pain in the butt to carry them around in your pocket or wallet or to neatly bunch your money together.

It bugged me the times I've been to Europe and it'll bug me if it ever happens here.

I have a great idea. we are always trying to find new ways to advertise. make cash an advertisment vehical, what weould be better to be in a 7-11 and not know what to get then you open you wallet see the $1 bill with a snikers ad on it "mmm a snikers sounds good " then you can get your M&M quaters back from the casheir it would be grand

Other countries also use different size bills to easily distinguish the denomination and eliminated mistakes on both sides and not to mention adds another hurdle to counterfitters.

I think the geenback is the most boring looking money I've ever seen. It's a pain in the ass to use because you have to look so closely at every bill. Sure, I'll spend it, but it's very boring.
I like the Euro, the larger the curency, the larger the bill...it's very handy.

I like Flyman's $20. Also, I'm going to agree and say we should go with some kinda futuristic color scheme. We like to "bill" ourselves as much more advanced as other countries don't we? (Sorry about the pun).
Also, differently colored money will help the poor drunks out there. Many times my friends have told me stories of tipping FAR too much because they couldn't read the numbers (now that's a drunk for ya.) Although, I suppose it's good for the resteraunt/bar workers.

Anyway, will we still be able to fold the 20 and do the "Twin Towers" trick? Who doesn't love the 'ooooh's and 'aaahhh's they get for that?

I believe they need to keep up the changes to stay ahead of the conterfiters but as for what they do I don't care. I'm not too ken on the colored money but I think I could get used to that. As fr size I'd rather not see it, but if they do I'll adapt. I'm still for the paperless society. I wan to be able to stick my damn debit card in teh pop machine and get a Dew. I know its coming. I'm just impatient.

Some color brightens it up alittle, kinda pissed my friends off, cause they were able to copy it and use it at the gas station. Its amazing what a color copier, dryer, and poker chips can do.

I know I CAN spend them, I just never put these big heavy things in my pockets, because they weigh my pants down too much. Maybe it is because I got more than 10 of them at one time.

I never leave the house with any change in my pockets, except a few quarters. Tips can always be rounded to the nearest 25 cents. The rest go in a coin sorter and every couple of months I take 20 pounds of change to my bank. But I have never seen a coin sorter that includes the dollar coins.

I think we need a square coin that's worth $5. Make it the size of a quarter, and purple, just to confuse people. Alternatively, it could be the size of a half-dollar so that it can be used as a throwing star. That would be important for self-defense, becuase we all learned from the commercial that the new Discover card is not good for ninja fights.

i think they should make a 20 out of gold plated human feces. like mine. So it would be kinda gross.. but it would still be gold.

A lot of people seem to think the previous twenty was good enough, but I'll tell you that people passed dozens of fakes on the strip of bars in Brooklyn where I work. I don't know how the new one is going to work any better, but it looks really cool. I always hold them up to the computer screen for the watermark. Worked on the old and will on the new too.
