I'm such a sucker

This should probably go in ART's "Mass media mind control" thread but...

K, so I'm home sick today with some upper respiratory nastiness (I think I caught quadro2000's cold over the web ) and I'm hungry but I don't know what for. You know how when you have a cold and you can't really taste anything so nothing sounds good? Like that.

So I'm watching Xgames and there's a Taco Bell commercial for a chicken quesadilla, and I think "Yes - THAT'S what I'm hungry for!" It's spicy so I could taste it, and it just sounds like it would hit the spot .Ordinarily I would have just gone to the grocery store and gotten the fixins and made on myself, but I feel like shit so I sent ratbastid out to tacobell. Just like that.

Do you have a story where an ad practically MADE you go out and buy their product?

pretty much all the commercials fooled me into buying their products.
Everytime I see something new that's within my budget, I automatically gotta try it out. I even drink some Budwiser because of their stupid commercials, and I hate beer!

After watching Kill Bill Vol. 2 in the theater, I had to go home and make a generic white bread + cheese + meat + mayo sandwhich. I actually ate those for like 2 weeks whenever I wanted a snack. It wasn't really an ad, but it still made me immediately go out and buy/make those sandwhiches.

No. There is only me and two others in the world who control our minds, not the media doing it for us, and they are at Burger King.

i definatley get a craving like you stated, but my laziness prevails a good 99.9% of the time..

usually it is just any food commercial i see when hungry will make me want that particular food at that instant, but once the commercial is off the craving is gone (usually)... on the off change the craving still exists, it must overpower my desire to not drive anywhere, which is great indeed!

i usually am not affected by the commercials...

the other day tho... me and a couple buddies were watching tv and an add for kfc came on... and we all looked at each other and said "lets go get chicken" so we walked down the street to kfc... and it was closed... so we ended up not getting anything....

another time my friend sheng and I were watching true romance... and after the scene where clarence kills the pimp and comes back with some big juicy burgers we both wanted to go get burgers so we went to spankies across the street and got burgers... YUM

I can appreciate commercials but I don't think I've ever gone downstairs to get something I saw in a commercial. The only times I've been suckered into buying stuff from a big name company is when I pass by starbucks and they're giving out free samples of one of their drinks. Probably 50% of the time, I'll end up buying it later that day.

Actually, most (good) free samples make me buy stuff...but I don't really think it's the same as a commercial...

I took some of their cold medication last week, every night before bed, and I sang the song as I dropped 'em into the glass.

I used to run out and buy a really neat car I would see on a commerical. Then I would see one I liked even better, and go get it. Pretty soon, I didn't have room to park all my neat cars...then they wanted me to pay for them. Cured me right fast! Man aren't those Hummers neat, hummm........

Wait...are we talkin' about Speedy, or the plop plop fizz fizz, thing?
Oh well, not that it matters, for I am still...that old.

Not an ad, but product placement nonetheless. I used to love X-files. I wanted to *BE* Fox Mulder. One day I was in my college grocery store trying to find something for a snack. Anyone who watches x-files enough will see Mulder eat hundreds of thousands of Sunflower seeds. I had picked them up and was waiting in the checkout line before I realized, I don't like sunflower seeds.

Honestly thre only thing that ever made me want to go out and buy it right now was the Reese's Peanut Butter cup commercials. I ate so many of those things!! Hubby had the same addication so talking him into was not hard at all.

Luckily it doesn't work on me anymore now that I don't eat sugar. Unless that old PMS comes a running in full tilt.
