It's not a child-hating thread, or at least didn't start at one. It's about the appalling lack of parenting that many people take. They don't even have control of their own children and let their children run roughshod over them. It's not the child's fault, but it is the parents'. It's the parents pandering to children and letting children make the decisions for them rather than the parents asserting their parental perrogative and actually being the head of their households.

And you're not lucky for having well-behaved children--it's your own damned fault

this right here, unfortunately, is a prime example of parents who are ruled by their children. How in the world are you teaching your children good behaviour and discipline by catering to THEM just to keep them quiet and happy?

See, I don't have this problem. I have a son who's just shy of two and he eats pretty much everything. We try to make sure we order something he can handle from the menu, but for the most part he'll east whatever he's given.

I just think that it is completely tactless to bring food into a restaurant.
I almost opened a restaurant this summer and you can be sure that I would not serve anyone with Mc'Ds slop at my table. I would ask them to leave and that would be the end of it.... but maybe thats why I didnt open one.

I would rather that the parents don't take a child out to a restaurant when they know that the child is incapable of acting appropriately while there. If they can't, then you don't go until the parents teach them manners.

That is correct, and that goes for ANY location that you are bringing your children, this includes screenings and movie previews, especially huge blockbusters like Matrix Revolutions and LOTR: Return of the King. Kids need to learn how to behave in different locations.

Im a college student, and if a bunch of my friends are going out to eat at McDonalds ill typically make a sandwhich at home and bring it along, as I don't eat fastfood. I would never do this in a restaurant, I'd simply not order anything if I couldn't find anything that suited my needs..however, I feel fast-food restaurants are so low class anyway..

How do you guys feel about that?

Why not get drive-thru, then they can join you at home/dorms/whatever with your sammich?

As for fast-food being low class.. Well, isn't that a bit snobbish? It might not be lobster and fliet mignone, but it's not mac n' government cheese...

If it's not a place where you're being served, I usually think it's okay to bring something else in....but it really depends on where you are, what the atmosphere is like etc.....I'd generally say Mcdonalds is okay.

Most restaurants have a "corkage" fee if you bring in your own bottle of wine. Did that for a friends birthday, we brought in 2 really nice special bottles of wine that the restuarant didn't serve -

The restaurant charged us 15 dollars per bottle. Which was actually fine by us...

If someone brings in food from the outside, they should be charged a "foodage" fee. The table still needs to be cleaned up, the staff still has to be attentive.

the reason the corking fee is charged is because it violates their liquor license if you consume alcohol they didn't sell you. by charging you a fee for it, they've "sold" it to you, and therefore have not violated the laws regarding liquor/wine sales in their state. they did it to cover their rear-ends with the law. slightly different concept with food. I personally thinks it's a better idea to forbid outside food in a sit-down restaurant period. Saves time and effort enormously.

that's what i love about NYC.. lots of restaurants that allow you to go to the corner store and buy beer and wine and consume it gratis in the restaurant.
