At a restaurant where I worked, the manager decided to use a glue trap. Like most of you, I though it would be a nice, temporary holding cell for the mouse. I found the mouse the very next morning, but things had gone horribly wrong...

It seems that he didn't just run on to the thing and get caught. Only a leg got caught at first. Then, as most animals will do when a limb is trapped, he tried to chew his leg off. Somewhere along the way his head also got stuck to the trap. So here was a rat with a half chewed-off back leg, all twisted up and only halfway stuck to the trap.

The other half of him, which was hanging off the trap, was frantically jumping and convulsing trying to pull free. It was the sound that led me to him...

I had nothing suitable with which to put him out of his misery, so I took the whole thing out to the dumpster and tried to put it out of my mind. Which worked until I saw this thread. Thanks for nothing!

The pest control guy we use at work put down glue traps to capture our mascot--no kidding, the biggest rat I've ever seen. We've named him Roscoe, and while he's still at large we've managed to nab three of his brethren/sistern.

WD40 will release the rodent from the glue trap. Just spray it around the critter (almost like doing an aerosol chalk outline) and it'll slide right off.

Have used glue traps, they work great as well as conventional traps and black and white female cat. Mice are a pest that carr disease. I have heard of putting out Alka-Seltzer but I think the corpse would be hard to find after the fact.

It sounds like a few here could use the services of KC. She brings me "treats" constantly. I haven't had a mouse around here since she came into my life.
I've tried traps and poison, but nothing works better than a good mouser.

I'm not a big fan of cats, but they are definitely the most efficient way to deal with mice

I wasn't aware you were supposed to be able to release the mice from the glue traps. Every time I've seen a glue trap used the mouse got his face stuck in the glue and suffocated, so I thought that was how it was supposed to work. My sister had one of those that 2 mice got stuck in at once and in their struggling around they got the electrical cord for the lamp stuck down in the glue underneath the mouse bodies. She was not at all impressed after having to untangle that mess.

I also had one of the little buggers start to chew limbs off to get away, but i passed on using the shovel and used a cinderblock. Wasn't high on my list of things i wanted to do, but dammit, i drew the short straw and was elected to kill it to put it out of its misery. At least i wasn't on clean-up crew... that was one hell of a mess.

Glue traps are cruel, we caught like 4 mice who lost limbs when we tried to free them. Out of the 16 traps we laid, 6 more mice just got a hammer and put in the trash. This was in hawaii, huge mouse problems. Snap traps are the best because their little work involved in cleaning them.

Regardless, theyre just trying to survive, and if you just put them far away from ANY house, it should be fine.

umm glue raps are just that: traps. they are not supposed to be humane only cath the things. most oil will dissolve them however. don't know why you would want to release them it's not like they aren't one of the most resilient species not to mention the disease they can spread(hanta virus for one).

Hahaha.....this struck me as funny. Too cruel to lay out a few glue traps now so I think I will take out a hammer and crack some skulls!!!

I can't believe that some of you are worrying yourself about being cruel to mice or whatever by killing them. I hope each and every one of you are strict vegiterians. I am, but I don't see anything wrong with smashing a mouse with a brick. The way I see it, I don't eat meat because of the horrible and pointless lives that those poor animals lead. They are simply manufactured into hamburgers, hot dogs, etc... It's about the life that the animal gets to have, not it's death. I can't think of any animals (including humans) that have a pleasent death. If a mouse gets to live his or her life outside, wondering around, doing what it does and it finds it's way into a trap, so be it. I think it's more inhumane to keep a mouse or a rat or whatever as a pet inside a small box. I may be a very strict vegiterian but atleast I know why and I don't do it just for the appeal. I won't ever eat at McDonalds but I'll kill a mouse and kill/eat whatever living thing I can if I ever have to survive (including humans, again).

Well for gluetraps, the best way to kill one if you ever get it caught is to put it in the freezer. Eventually it just goes to sleep from the cold and is probably the most painless way of killing it. It'll just cuddle up and go to sleep.

This thread represents an interesting cross-section of humanity. I'm in the "kill them humanely" department myself, preferably with something effective like a snap trap. A glue trap with some kind of fast-acting contact poison might be best.

Did I just invent a better mousetrap?

We left our cat with a family a few years ago prior to going on vacation to Florida..

When we got back, it turns out she had "encountered" a glue trap while there, and the process of getting all the glue off was not fun at all.

Needless to say, they didn't watch our cat again.

No. To be human is to do stupid things. Then the humans putouts the traps with poison. The offspring crawls to the trap and gets stuck in it then dies. Lawyer then sues your ass.

Easily avoided. Write "not intended for human consumption" on the label, and specifically instruct the owner to keep children away. Certify with legions of corporate lawyers, and then use portion of millions obtained from super mousetrap to settle out of court.

Okay, I'll throw in....

Quite a few years ago I found a glue trap behind a desk at work, some wierd noises led me to it. There's a mouse stuck inside this tube thing.

I've got this little mouse stuck by three legs and his FACE to this trap. Looks awful, he's trying to pull away and it ain't working. WTF am I going to do about it? Starving to death seems shitty, but can't exactly put him in the copier and hope the toner gives him cancer to take him out. I breifly consider the microwave, it's so dirty who'd notice the dead mouse? Feed him into a computer fan? No, not enough torque. Shit, the mouse has to die soon, and I've got to do it. Isn't windex toxic? I don't know where we keep that, and a hosed down mouse doesn't seem fatal anyway. I could stab him with a pen, but I don't have the balls to stab a mouse just to watch him die. Besides, now the little fucker is LOOKING at me as he tries to pull his face off the glue. God, that looks awful....all I can think of is my pet gerbils from when I was little. Then the light bulb lit up! Suffocate him.

The trap was a triangular tube. I wrapped the whole thing tightly in duct tape. Sealed off his air supply completely, and threw him in the trash.
