Strange Animal in Maryland
I love animals and when I hear a story like this it gets me pretty excited. There appears to be some kind of very odd looking animal lurking in the woods of Maryland. I was wondering if there is any one out there on the TFP that may be an expert and could possibly identify this little guy. It is amazing what may be living out in the wild parts of this country and others. The following is a link to the story with pics and video.

Looks like a hyena to me. I'd place bets that somebody had the idea that a hyena would be a cool pet to have... and once it got to be too much they dropped it somewhere.
|
Wow that is one strange looking thing. They need to get a better camera. Hopefully they will find out what it is.

Looks like a Hyena.
|
Just went to the zoo yesterday. Looks like the hyena they had there
|
I'm suprised that nobody has recoginized the animal in question. They are fairly plentiful in my neck of the woods and are known as "Lampotys". Their is highly prized for making lamp shades, but the meat is terrible. Generally after the creatures are skinned, we put the rest down by the mailbox to draw flys away from the trailer.

It does look like a hyena. But the rear legs are too long. Hyenas have much shorter rear legs and long muscular front legs. I think it is a little too small also. Pretty cool though. It would be interesting if they found a population of them in the woods.

Looks like a dog with a bad skin problem
|
I'd bet it tastes like chicken.

or crap

They never mention asking a biologist or zooligist what they might think it is.
Perhaps an expert opinion is in order. |
Maybe just a dog with a bad case of Mange.. Does resemble a heyena though.. But the body is wrong.... Very interesting though

yep, that's what i would say it is. most others agree too. stupid people and their pets. >:-( |
Hm, an unidentified creature lurking in the woods? Must be bigfoot. No, maybe it's aliens...
Wait, it's furry. I'll take bigfoot, final answer :D |
You know, I live about 15 miles from this, and I haven't heard a WORD anywhere. Very interesting.
My first thought was it being a coyote, and it does look like a hyena too. Guess I'll have to make a trip to Glyndon and find out :D Or just play NCAA Football 2005 and wait for someone else to :p |
Also, this is the second strange animal in Baltimore County in a month.
Earlier this month, there was a caiman in Seneca Creek off of the Bay that the police tried for a week to capture before getting it. |
looks like a ridgeback with a bad case of mange

Actually, in the time since I posted that statement, it has been picked up.
No one yet knows what it is, though. |
It's a freaking Tazmanian Tiger !! i guess they're not extinct after all !!
|
I thought that type of thing was called a "mutt".
|
to me, it looks kinda like a skinned fox, or something.
why don't they just trap it and study it? ...and then let it go? |
Interesting. I love animals as well. Even my pops said "Thats a hyena" I know it looks like one but hell lots a animals look like other animals from far away.

They caught it and took it to an animal hospital, where it was found to be a red fox with severe mange.
Trying desperately to find a link...saw the report on the news. |

It's nice to read they aren't going to kill it.
Too often, killing the animal seems the easiest way to deal, and I think that's unfortunate. |
GERTRUDE! SHE HAS ESCAPED!
|
I think its a sovunier shop keepers blessing.
|
it looks like the giant rat from the princess bride
