Comcast cable "On Demand"
So this is new in Denver and I'm loving it. Tivo-like ability to pause, ff, rw, and view programs of your choice at any time you wish. Free. Movies, series, sports, whatever. This is so kick-ass. I can now record entire seasons of Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm, etc without having to buy them or rent them. Go Comcast.

see here: http://tfproject.org/tfp/showthread....hlight=comcast but you don't have to. i just feel like i have a duty to explain to people how Comcast doesn't really care about their customers. |

I've heard some horror stories about Comcast too degrawj, but my experience, so far, has been very good. I'm totally lovin' the On-demand stuff.

Comcast can eat my ass after the fiasco we went through with them. We were out of their wonderful service for 5 days. My roommate was on the phone with them for several hours trying to get someone that knew anything, to no avail. After much bantering and deliberation we finally go the problem resolved, and Comcast said they would give us a $35 credit on our next bill for the trouble. To this day, 2 months later, we have not received the aforementioned credit. As a further slap in the face, anyone we get on the phone doesn't know anything about us being entitled to a credit, and they don't even show us ever having a problem with service to begin with! We have since switched to RCN.

My grandparents had comcast. I hope that company burns in hell. They were charging my grandparents 58 dollars a month for BASIC CABLE!!! Are you fucking kidding me?!? I mean digital cable I can understand but SHIT! this is for regular cable! So they switched to DirecTV and have never been happier. I on the other hand, have been blessed by 2 great cable companies Time Warner and COX, both offering great service and entertainment! I do have to add ON Demand is awesome. I still wonder how they do it. You would think it costs them a lot of money to dedicate a system just for playing videos over a cable network strictly to one person at a time.

I tested the VOD stuff a few years back and I got to play with some of the back end equipment. It's very very cool and alot of fun to play.
I'm hoping to get involved in some of that technology again as I continue to work in the entertainment field.

I checked out the On Demand feature yesterday and I wasn't very impressed. The shows I wanted to watch such as X-Files reruns or WWE were not listed under any categories but I saw the "save programs feature," is there some way I can program OD to record X-files reruns on sci-fi for example?

Just so you know this is just the beginning... within the next few years VOD will be just about everywhere...
It marks the death of the video store. Why rent when you can get something on demand, keep it for a few days and not have any late fees? You read it here.

Why? Because the cost of putting ALL the videos and content onto servers is cost prohibitive. There's still a market for people who will want to watch Dr. Fumanchu mysteries and other obscure titles. People made the same death knell for the Record stores and I still see plenty of them selling NEW records.

I have Rogers Digita Cable with PVR and I love it. (Rogers is the biggest cable company in Ontario).
I would never go back!

We also have Comcast TV cable in our area and we have the digitial option plus On-Demand. I can't believe I'm paying about $60/mo for television! but the rest of the family wants it. Since Comcast has gotten bigger, their service is not as good as it used to be and it actually seems to be getting worse. I am not a fan of most TV anyway so I haven't used On-Demand, but since most of the watching I do is motorhead stuff on SpeedChannel, I'd consider On-Demand if I missed Ferrari winning another F1 race or that kind of thing. In spite of marginal Comcast cable service, when one of these days I finally set up a PC at home, I'll seriously consider their cable internet service for the speed advantage but DSL looks pretty good for that application, too.
While I think Comcast pushes the envelope on cable features, IMO we are in desperate need of some local cable TV competition. Comcast keeps raising their rates and competition is usually the best way to keep that within reason. I'm hoping that broadband technology will get others into the TV market, such as Verizon or AT&T; they're not perfect either but I think the competition would help the consumer. |
