Flags stay half-staff until July 5
Just a reminder. I also found this article that details annual days of remembrance when Old Glory is flown half-staff:

awesome find bonk. i have been wondering about this. i knew that the flag was supposed to be flown at half mast for 30 days after a president, or former president, passed away, but i did not know that it had to be flown half mast on certain holidays such as Pearl Harbor day or Korean Veterans Memorial day. again, thanks for the find!

virtually impossible to put the hardware store bought flag at the top of our garage gable at half-staff, but if i could i surely would.
thanks NewBonk for the info. |
We even have some of our flags at half-mass here in Canada. More specifically, in Sarnia, right across from Port Huron, in Michagan.

I was curious about this as well. I thought it was for a week. When they didn't go down after that, I thought maybe everyone was waiting for someone else to raise their flag first, so they would be the ones in view if the flags were still supposed to be at half mast. Thanks for clearing that up for me!

thanks for the link. I was wondering if the flags at half mast were still for Pres. Reagan. I wouldn't have guessed it was suppost to be for 30 days.

I always thought if was only till the end of the month that the death happend in, thanks for the link and I will be sure to pass it on.

Hi Bernadette,
I believe if you cannot lower a flag to half-mast, then you should hang a black ribbon from the top of the flag. It should be as wide as a regular stripe on the flag. I read that somewhere on the net last week, sorry I don't have the link. |
Wow 30 days is a long time. I bet the repugs biatch like hell when it is down for 30 days for Bill.

Interesting information there bonk. Thanks for the find!
It's funny because I don't recall this happening when Predient Nixon passed away. |
