question about smoking..

i have never been a heavy smoker (cigarettes)..but when im usually with friends or at the club i smoke..my question is everytime i smoke i get light headed? is this normal or is it because my body hasnt adapted to it? thanx

Bill O'Rights 06-22-2004 06:15 AM

Yes.

Your brain is rebeling against the lack of oxygen that you are giving it. Take it from a smoker...if you are still getting lightheaded, it's not too late to knock that crap off. Do it. God, I hate sounding like a PSA. Yeesh.

shalafi 06-22-2004 06:19 AM

Ya I think thats probably it. I smoke cigars not cigarettes but Ill get that once in a while too especially if I havent smoked in a few weeks.

yournamehere 06-22-2004 06:33 AM

The reason your blood can't carry as much oxygen is because it's carrying carbon monoxide in its place.

Take BOR's advice - I enjoyed smoking for 5 years, and then spent the next 20 trying to quit. Quit now while it's easy.

Agreed -- from one smoker to another -- quit that shit out before it becomes a habit.

water_boy1999 06-22-2004 12:13 PM

serious....that's the best advice you will probably ever hear. Don't succumb to the peer pressure because you think it is cool to smoke. It's not. Quit while you still have a full set of healthy lungs.

analog 06-22-2004 12:24 PM

Quit quit quit! Do it while you can.

tecoyah 06-22-2004 01:00 PM

QUIT.....I know it has been said (Quit) but you should (Quit) listen to (quit) the advice (quit).

SecretMethod70 06-22-2004 01:10 PM

*chants in unison with everyone else*

quit!
quit!
quit!

/hehehe

isis 06-22-2004 01:32 PM

If you still can easily, I'd suggest doing it now. Its tempting to smoke when you drink .. but endure the hour of pain of wanting one, rather than the rest of your life.

And remember, cigarettes are expensive, unhealthy .. and unbecoming!

Yeah. That was my point, as well. If you're still getting lightheaded, then I doubt that you are addicted yet. Trust me, it's not something you want to be. Stop now before you do become addicted. I've been smoking for 23 years. It's long since ceased to be "fun".

Yakk 06-22-2004 01:58 PM

Smoke more. It isn't as addictive as people are telling you, they just don't have your willpower.

And it makes you cool and fit in with your friends. They won't like you if you don't smoke: they will think you are wierd and stuck up.

You'll get fat if you don't smoke. And none of the cute girls will go out with you.

So, keep smoking.

This message brought to you by benson and hedges quality brand cigarettes. Smoke B&H and be cool like a movie star!

snoop 06-22-2004 05:46 PM

Take it from a 20 yr smoker, don't do it !!!! If I had the choice to jump into a time machine and stop myself having that first smoke I would !!

S

frozenstellar 06-22-2004 06:49 PM

*jumps on quit bandwagon*.. its easier to do now than later.

p0thead 06-23-2004 11:35 AM

yes! like everyone says, get out before its too late! i hate smoking, wish i had the willpower to quit

Rdr4evr 06-23-2004 11:54 AM

Its all in the mind man. I smoked for 6 years and quit cold turkey without a problem. Six years isnt much, but its still enough to get "addicted". I think people who say they are addicted are just using an excuse to keep smoking.

matthew330 06-23-2004 12:46 PM

15 year smoker - month and a half without one (well...sober smoke). There are a million and one reasons to not smoke, most realized after not smoking. Quitting is a bitch, guaranteed if you start now a significant portion of your life will be spent regretting it, and the other portion trying to stop. Every second of every day (at least for me) revolved around when i was gonna have my next smoke. Didn't go to movie theaters because i couldn't go 2 hours without one.

Trust the smokers, drop them bad boys NOW.

isis 06-23-2004 01:52 PM

Yes, and take this from my 18 year old self. I'm only 18, and ALREADY regret beginning. I've smoked for almost 5 years, but .. just don't start. ahaha.

Madd 06-24-2004 08:43 AM

While i aint been a smoker, i still say quit man, a few freind of mine started smoking back in high school, and the amount of dosh they they have spent in the past 5-6 years adds up to an awful lot. Do the math yaself and see how much you are paying a company to slowly kill you.

viejo gringo 06-24-2004 07:03 PM

----and if you don't stop, in a few years you will not be able to take a deep breath without coughing your head off...

Smoked for 34 years, and then it finally dawned on me that I was addicted...quit cold turkey....was off of them for 20 years when I started to get dizzy again...I now have what looks like a zipper down the center of my chest and 3 navels..the aftermath of a triple bypass......and you will talk to your God just before it happens..VG

rockogre 06-25-2004 06:54 AM

STOP! STOP NOW!

Paying for the habit after 30 years is not fun. I smoked for 30 years and I agree with viejo. I've had coughing fits so bad I talked with my maker. My finger tips used to be yellow. My car and my house smelled like a pit from hell. I couldn't do much of anything physical near the end of my addiction. I also quit cold turkey and it was worth the trouble.

Don't wait for the zipper scar, stop now!

anleja 06-26-2004 11:10 AM

I was starting to smoke at 16. One day I was driving with my girlfriend and smoked so much I got light-headed. She told me to walk around the car until I felt better. Later on she admitted this was not a cure, she just wanted to get me out of the car so she wouldn't have to hear me complain about being light-headed.

Habit? I 'd call it an addiction...

*joins chorus*...Quit now before you become addicted.

Cujo 06-26-2004 01:49 PM

Smoked for 22 years now. Take it from someone who is heavily addicted and smokes 2 packs a day.

QUIT NOW AND NEVER PUT THAT SHIT BETWEEN YOUR LIPS AGAIN!

MooseMan3000 06-26-2004 01:50 PM

ONE OF US, ONE OF US!

...

I mean, QUIT, QUIT. Wrong chant slipped out.

I'm a singer, and I can't really afford to smoke. It makes you sound like shit. And in my experience, girls like it better if you sing to them without hacking up a lung. Heh.

lionrock 06-26-2004 01:54 PM

In theory, I suggest that you stop smoking.....

The sociopathic bastard part of my reccomends you keep smoking. I do ultrasound on arteries for a living, and smokers put food on my table.

mikec 06-28-2004 08:14 PM

puff all day and all night. hell, if you want, smoke 4 packs a day! you never know what's gonna happen...you could get run over by a bus tomorrow, or your house could get hit by a bolt of lightening killing you dead. while you're at it, scarf down as many big mac's and super size fries as you can, cause they are TASTY!!

ok really you shouldn't smoke, but I can't believe no one played this angle yet hehehhehe. I quit on 05/17 after smoking about a pack a day for 15 years. I'm gonna continue with it, but damn sometimes I still wanna suck down one of them cancer sticks.

flamingdog 06-29-2004 11:39 AM

I smoke joints mostly, but when I run out of weed I smoke one cigarette a day after work just to help me wind down. have never wanted to up that number.
