Do you use the handicap stall in public restrooms
I guess this poll is really only for non-handicapped people. And please don't bust my chops over politically correct semantics. Whether it's called "wheelchair-bound" stalls, or "mobility-challenged" stalls, or whatever it is this week, we ALL KNOW which stall I'm talking about.
|
If more than one stall is available, I will always go to the normal one. If the normal one is taken, I don't hesitate to use the handicapped stall.
|
if it's available, i'll use it...mostly only at work though and we don't have any "disabled" folks here, so i know i'm not going to be taking it away from someone that needs it
you can't beat the space afforded by a handicap stall...just makes the whole experience that much easier to deal with! |
Same here, if its an emergency where I first of all can't wait till I get home, then I have no problem at all using the handicapped stall if its the only one open.
|
yes, what about it?
I use them when its the only alternative. is your point that I should leave it reserved for handicapped only (like a parking space)? or are you trying to find out if some people consider it offensive to use these in some way? |

I'll use it - it is no different than the others except it is larger. It is there because ADA requires it to be present - it is not reserved and is not for the exclusive use of those with disabilities. Now if you want to get people really riled up let's talk about handicapped parking!!!
|
I use it. I like the extra space to move about and don't like that veal feeling from the smaller stalls.
Because of ADA, my money has been spent on it. I'm using it. as far as handicapped parking... jeez.. that's a whole different thread. |
Of course. It's not reserved for the handicapped.
Besides, I can put my feet up and get more leverage. ;-) |
I know of several restaurants where it is the only stall - period.
That would seem to send the message that they are dual-use rather than to be reserved. |
I use it all the time at work because
a: we dont have any handicapped people working here and b: the toilette paper thing in the other stall doesnt turn right c: its friggin huge. its bigger than my whole bathroom at home |
If it's the most clean, I'm there.
|
I like the extra room. :-)
|
I use it. It's the best place for a drunken quickie.
|
If there were someone more qualified to use it than I, then I would not take it. Most times there is no one needing it, so there is no reason not to.
They are not reserved like parking spaces. |
I avoid the use of public facilities as far as possible, by planning in advance.
|
If I gotta go and it's the only one available, I'm there. If a non-handicapped stall is available I'll use it. Unless I just gotta piss, then I'll use a urinal.
|
All the time... There is way more room. If someone needed to use it they could use it after me just like anyone else...
They aren't like specially designated parking spots. |
Gah, public restrooms.
I just use the stall that doesn't have shit smeared all over the walls. |
I'll use them when need be. I don't feel guilty.
As Art said, many resturants and such have ONLY those. |
I'll usually go for the handicap accessible stalls. I like having the extra room. Its the "first class" of bathroom stalls and I dig the extra leg room. As several people have already stated, they're not reserved for those with disabilities.....
|
tee hee.. the only reason you should keep it open is if you have reason to believe there's a handicapped person with weak rectum muscles that ate too much frank-n-beans that day...and you happen to have eaten too many bananas and are all congested....
|
i usually go to whichever's empty and most convenient.
if that's the handicapped one, so be it. |
Ill use it... i dont think its like the parking space thing... like i think its just labeled that way to notify a person that is handicapped that there is a stall that they would be able to use... i dont think its off limits to all other people though
|
ill use it. its no biggie to me. esp. if i have to shit because of the extra room.
|
I will usually head for the "normal" stall, given a choice. Barring that, I have absolutely no qualms with using a handicapped stall. It's not like a parking slot.
|
I use them whenever they're available. Typically when I'm in public, I tend to use the school and bus terminal bathrooms the most often. The regular stalls are so freaking small I almost can't even turn around in them, and open the door to get out without banging myself in the chest. So the handicapped stall is my preference. .
|
I freely use it without guilt.
Being handicapped doesn't mean you should have first dibbs on anything, anymore than it means you should be penalized for the fact. IMHO, all the stalls should be that large and easy to use. |
i dont think they have many in my part of the country.
|
As long as the stall has toilet paper, the toilet is actually flushed, and their isn't nasty stuff on the floor I'll use it. Handicap or regular, I don't really care.
|
Handicap people don't pee.
Duh. |
Ever try and find a phone booth lately? There ARE none!
So, where ELSE am I supposed to change? People NEED to be saved! The world is always in some kind of crisis or another. Crooks taking advantage of people, and shit. With various disasters approaching, I occasionally have to use a handicap stall. It may not be politically correct, but I have people who are depending on me. So sue me, dickwipe. |
There really is a significant difference between bathroom stalls and parking spaces. If you park in a handicap space, there is no way for you to immediately move your car should the space be needed. Unless you have serious colon problems, you will be able to vacate the stall in a reasonable amount of time. That is why stalls are "availabe" and parking spaces are "reserved."
|
I allways use the handicap stall if there is one. I like the space.
I once lived in a house where we had room for a small sofa, a stereo, a bookshelf and a tv in the bathroom. The idea was that you could have company while taking a bath. Only problem was that it was the only bathroom so dual use was often tripled. That was also a problem while renting a room in Paris wher the loo was behind the kitchen table, just a few metres away from the stove... |
I don't use public restrooms. I can't remember the last time I used one.
|
I rarely use a public restroom, but if I have to, I will use whatever stall looks the cleanest.
|
I use it. 'Caps can wait just like the rest of us. It's not like they'd have to cross a 100 yd parking lot to use the other stalls.
|
Whatever is cleanest.
|
i use whatever stall is open when i need to piss. i'm not going to stand in line for 5 minutes and let everyone else piss in the handicap stall while i wait.
|
we have entirely separate restrooms for the handicap people. not just bigger stalls.
i freely use these because they are huge! its like your own private bathroom in there, you can just relax. take off your shoes, hang up your jacket and have some fun. i've even used one as a separate party room in a bar. |
