Chupacabra!

Apparently this was photographed in Chile, Peru. Supposedly the photographer found out after he downloaded the picture to computer.

<img src="http://www.elcajon.cl/ovniaventura/parque3.jpg">

Here is the story:

Quote:

The author of the photo explains the white spot as well as how
the street lights began to turn on in sequence.

Kodak DX6490

The image was directly downloeaded from the camera to CIFAE's
computer.

Erick Martßnez, of CIFAE Chile and Civil Engineer German Pereira

I'm from Concepcion and have been working in Santiago for little
over a a year. On May 10 this year I decided to take some photos
at Parque Forestal, taking some 10 shots which I downloaded to
my PC the following day .

I thought it would be interesting to photograph a group of
Carabineros - State Police - on horseback patrolling the sector.
The photo was taken at 17:40 hrs approximately from the corner
of JM de la Barra and Av. Cardenal Jose Marßa Caro, in front of
bellas Bellas Artes and looking east.

It was a cloudy day and the sun was hidden, for which reason my
digital camera a Kodak DX6490 adjusted to low speed (1/10
seg.).

This is the reason why the photo shows motion (those
knowledegable about photography will know the reason
why)Furthermore, the Carabineros were som 20 meters distant, and
I employed the camera's optical zoom (10x) which added to the
blurred result.

The fact is that I am very impressed by this image. I attest to
the fact that it is not a fraud nor anything similar. For this
reason I have made it public and I contacted the staff of CIFAE
Chile. I would like to know the true nature of the image that
appears in it and if anyone has ever caught anything similar in
a photo. Nothing more.

water_boy1999 06-04-2004 07:09 AM

So? A nekkid midget is running through the streets of Santiago. ig deal.

Actually, the photo does look a little doctored. If you look behind the image towards his back, there seems to be inconsistency of blurred leaves. The blurry picture makes it an easy excuse to doctor it up a bit.

cameroncrazy822 06-04-2004 07:20 AM

I got chills once I realized what the image had "allegedly" captured!

Stud 06-04-2004 07:28 AM

HEH! That picture is so doctored and it is done so poorly that I am embarrassed to own a copy of MS Paint.

Rubyee 06-04-2004 07:30 AM

Look! It's the thing from the last Harry Potter movie!

That is nice of the Hollywood producers to let him out and about from time to time. You would think he would be locked up in some storage place somewhere.

He is losing weight, too!

Mehoni 06-04-2004 08:12 AM

DOBBY!

seriously though, i really want to know what the fuck that is. creepy

FaderMonkey 06-04-2004 09:15 AM

So, why is it he didn't notice Dobby when he was taking the picture??

Rubyee 06-04-2004 09:21 AM

Because Dobby was elusive, and seeing as how blurry he is, since it isn't a doctored photo, he was running REALLY FAST!

KellyC 06-04-2004 09:25 AM

Its a white monkey...

Asuka{eve} 06-04-2004 09:34 AM

The aliens now walk among us.

WarWagon 06-04-2004 09:59 AM

I know that if I were a goat sucker, I too would be casually strolling through the park.

Maybe it's trying to figure out how to get at one of the horses.

Its a crying shame that such things always seem to happen when someone is about the photograph something paranormal!

b_angelo 06-04-2004 10:58 AM

hey I saw that lawn jocky's picture on a milk carton!!

FaderMonkey 06-04-2004 12:36 PM

That's one thing that kinda sucks about the existence of programs like Photoshop. If someone were to ever actually take a picture of an alien or something like that no one will ever believe it! Everyone will always just say, "oh, they did that in Photoshop." I'm not saying I believe this picture is real, but it would be kind of cool to think that it could be.

I don't know anything about Photoshop, but is there a way to tell for certain if a digital picture has been edited?

Senor Roboto 06-04-2004 12:40 PM

Looks like Piglet.

pig 06-04-2004 02:03 PM

Hey, what you talking 'bout Roboto?

dirtyrascal7 06-04-2004 03:21 PM

it looks like the police wearing flight suits and full helmets.. wtf is that about?

Yeah you can magnify it heaps and look at the pixels and a trained eye can see if it's been edited or not most of the time.

But horses aren't goats. Why would a goat-sucker want to suck a horse? That's crazy.

Personally, If I was a chupacabra, I KNOW I'd definitely love walking between armed police officers in the middle of broad daylight.

Unless of course the person who was editing it did the same thing and went pixel by pixel to fix it. Hmmmm.

Not likely, though.

Esco 06-05-2004 09:41 PM

Chupacabras are bigger. We have plenty here.

Rdr4evr 06-05-2004 10:07 PM

It looks like the alien in signs. The birthday party scene.

Hrothgar 06-06-2004 03:34 AM

Looks like the dancing baby from Ally McBeal.

Church 06-06-2004 07:36 AM

If this photographer takes this quality of picture, and doesn't delete it, remind me not to hire him.

And just on a side note, this picture is so illogical it doesn't even deserve to get any recognition except as a joke, lol. A chupa walks right between two cops, out in the open, in the middle of day, on a road? Sorry, give me a break.

From the El Chupacabra site:
http://www.elchupacabra.com/
Quote:

What is El Chupacabra?
El Chupacabra - Means "the goat sucker" in Spanish.

Named because of the way it sucked all the blood from Puerto Rican goats, the Chupacabra has been leaving fear in its tracks for many years now.

First spotted in Puerto Rico in 1994, the Chupacabra has since migrated off the island and has recently been spotted in many locations including South America as well as the US. Although it was named because of its choice of goat-blood as a meal, the Chupacabra has reportedly attacked and devoured the blood of a wide variety of animals including dogs and sheep. As far as we know, there have yet to be any human fatalities.

Due to the distinct technique the strange animal has of killing its prey, it is very easy to tell if the Chupacabra was involved in an animals death. Animals are found with puncture wounds in their neck and most of their blood removed. Often, the victim's organs have disappeared even though the only wound is a small hole in the animal's neck. Reports of laser-like cuts on the victim's ears are also common.

Although some people say they have seen the Chupacabra's tracks, in many cases there are no signs of blood or tracks around the dead animals.

Appearance

It is hard to describe the appearance of El Chupacabra because sightings greatly differ. Most say it is either gray or green. Some say it has a large lizard-like tongue, others say it has wings.

A bipedal creature (one that stands upright like a human), the Chupacabra has had many sightings where its height was reported to be anywhere from 3 and 6 feet tall. Some say it walks, some say it flies, and some say it has a kangaroo hop.

See our labeled drawing of El Chupacabra by hitting this link.

Where did it come from?

Like the descriptions of El Chupacabras' appearance, people's ideas of its origin widely vary. Many say it's a new species, or a relative to the panther. More eccentric scholars say it is a dinosaur or an alien. Another theory is that there is a portal to another dimension that stretches from Puerto Rico across to South America.

Our theory is that an alien spacecraft contained El Chupacabras' as pets or for study, and they somehow escaped during an accident, or a crash.
The stuff we think of, eh? :D

digital cameras tend to take things in the mega-pixel type resolution....meaning a 1000x1000 pixel picture. micro-editing a photo to that degree is possible, but very, very time consuming. It's not something a mediocre hoaxist is likely to do. That's why they've blurred it via filters--it takes out the majority of the "leg"-work in doctoring the photo to a semi-convincing state.

optik_nerve 06-09-2004 06:02 PM

Chupacabra's are cool. I know if I saw a chupacabra in/on the side of the road I would give it the horns. You know....rock n' roll! :p

UPDATED: 9:47 am CDT August 25, 2005

COLEMAN, Texas -- A Texas farmer may have found what some would call a "chupacabra," a legendary animal known for sucking the blood out of goats.

Slideshow: Farmer May Have Caught Legendary 'Chupacabra'

Reggie Lagow set a trap last week after a number of his chickens and turkeys were killed.

What he found in his trap was a mix between a hairless dog, a rat and a kangaroo.

The mystery animal has been sent to Texas Parks and Wildlife in hopes of determining what it is.
