Don't screw with your IT guys!

I found some instant messages that were saved in the error logs that were of some guys wife messaging another guy talking about the affair they were having. Not quite the same, but I'd like to hear any other stories about this kind of thing. |
I have a friend, yah, a friend, it wasn't me, that'd be unethical, who used to accept, ummmm-- kickbacks - nooo -- bribes -- something like that -- to make certain entries in the firewall logs go away. (Our department did have one kick ass christmas party that year -- bribes are GOOD)
When I was a sadistic network admin for a brokerage house, some of the masters of the universe used to get on my last nerve, I knew exactly where they were surfing, so in the dark of night, OK, in the afternoon, I'd adjust their profiles so that parental controls were set and they couldn't get to any "adult" sites. I wish I could remember some of the calls the help desk fielded when they couldn't access those sites, but wouldn't say it was porn they were trying to access. At another job, one of my many duties was mail administrator. So, I found out accidentally that my boss was banging some slutty chick (he had three kids and a lovely wife, and was an absolute ass) so, I did the only thing a geek could do. I snooped, company property, I wasn't breaking any laws, and I found her email address, and set up a behind the scenes rule, and had all her messages to him, copied to me, for safekeeping. Luckily he got fired before I had a chance to use them. (and when I heard his wife was suing him for divorce, she anonymously got all those emails. (and I wonder why I have such bad karma-_ i was an evil IT Bitch) |
Oh Dear, Sounds like a job for The Bastard Operator from Hell
|
haha, I like that. Keep the porn on your home machine.

I've seen plenty of damning evidence on PC's during my work, but have yet to use it against a person. (I may have made a backup once or twice when thinking about it...)
Outsourcing IT is a bad idea for many reasons including efficiency and the above mentioned possibility. |

I think it's one thing to outsource your programmers & developers (not that I am FOR the idea; I am a programmer myself), but it is just plain stupid to piss off your network or mail admins.
|
This is so funny because I work at HP and we saw the move of Bank Of Ireland IT dept. to our building :)
somehow I feel so close to this topic. Real good job of the IT dept. there, its their rightful vengeance i reckon. |

Being in the same throes as maleficient, I too have similar "logs" and "emails" tucked away. I don't snoop for them but if you leave them out, I'll make sure that a back up is there.
IMHO it really goes to show you.... The toes you step on today, may be connected to the ass you have to kiss tomorrow. |

As a BOFH myself, I've done many similar things - noting down e-mails and websites that the bosses went to and shouldn't have - and then complained when their access went away. "Oh I'm sorry, you can't hit a website? Weird, seems to work fine here. What's the URL? Not important? Well, I'll give it a shot anyways, we've been having problems with the firewall. Thanks for the raise!" ;) |
<--- BOFH represent!
(member of the local BOFH group -- 196 complaints thrown away this week, 26 users' home directories deleted, and counting...) |
Doh!
I'm the secondary IS boy. Y'all are ruthless. We don't filter anything (URL) and aren't even remotely vindictive. Unless you count my practical jokes of disconnecting nic cables and rearranging desks. :) |
