FYI: i just read that they are converting Matrix: Reloaded to the IMAX format about 2 weeks after the initial opening. IMAX is trying hard to make it's format a bit more viable to regular movies...

I'm going with some old coworkers... at least that was the plan. Dunno, they can be flaky. What's the details for your showing?

They are also debuting The Matrix Revolutions in IMAX on November 5th, the same day that it goes to regular theatres.

I'm going on the 15th at 4 PM, I already have my tickets.

Hey, please add a couple of months for us on the other side of the "pond"....

Love to see it on IMAX, but I'll be lucky to see it in august as a "new" opening.

Have a great time, and I hope it lives up to the first....

Some movies need to be seen with the crowd on opening night --- Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and I think The Matrix is up there.

I'm sure others saw Episode I opening night...I was in San Francisco at the old 1200+ person theater there (can't remember the name. Fillmore? I dunno.). Just being in that environment actually made the movie tolerable! I didn't realize it was bad until the 2nd time I watched it...

well then maybe its because whenever i try to go to a movie theres always stupid 13-14 year olds running around and talking through the whole thing. i guess that wont be the case with the matrix though - seeing as how it is R rated.

I had heard that IMAX conversion requires pan-and-scan, since it isn't letterbox format. Is that true? If so, that'd suck.

sometimes it's not about the crowd..

for me it's about the quality of the print. As the film passes through the projector it gets scratched, scraped, and other types of damage. So the first few days that the print is actually in use, you get the best visuals.. of course if the bulb sucks, and the rest of the theater isn't up to par or spec, then it's not going to matter.

It's one of the reasons I like watching the digital versions... they are crisp and clean as watching a DVD on a giant TV.

I'm not sure. I watched ATOC and Fantasia in IMAX format... with Fantasia.. you could see some of the actual brush strokes on the cels....

ATOC they cut out all the Anikin/Padme rolling around in the grass and farting around with that cowthingy...

if it was P/S it really didn't matter because the format is so large that your eyes do a pan/scan around the screen to see some of the side details...

I'm definitely an ananmorphic/letterbox person... I miss the days of 70mm

I'm going at 10 on the 14th, mwaa haa haa.

And I totally agree with Cynthetiq, the crowd may have an effect on the movie experience (positively as well as negatively), but the quality of the actual film usually leads me to the theater opening night (or before if I can get it).

Plus, if I get there early enough, I can usually go back a couple months after opening, before it goes to video, to refresh my memory on what happened.

Was going to open up another thread for this, but I couldn't think of much more to say than

Ho-ly shit, that movie was amazing.

Anything more just wouldn't do it justice, so I'll leave it at that.

Thank you.

The matrix was awesome? Watching the first half was like watching a bad episode of Deep Space Nine. They all wear bathrobes and talk like they're all doing important, rational things.

Of course, that freeway chase was kick ass and worth $8.50 easily!
