Matrix NIGHT on the 15'th. I'm going anyone else down?

Hey, I plan on seeing Matrix when it comes on the opening evening, anyone interested in busting it out with me?
Write down if you are so I can reserve spaces by the 13th, got nthat.

Unless you want to sit on thew OTHER side of the theater and watch it.

BuDDaH 05-08-2003 01:28 PM

Location: Manhattan, NEW F00KING YORK
OK?

Cynthetiq 05-08-2003 01:34 PM

FYI: i just read that they are converting Matrix: Reloaded to the IMAX format about 2 weeks after the initial opening. IMAX is trying hard to make it's format a bit more viable to regular movies...

I'm going with some old coworkers... at least that was the plan. Dunno, they can be flaky. What's the details for your showing?

Kyp 05-08-2003 01:45 PM

They are also debuting The Matrix Revolutions in IMAX on November 5th, the same day that it goes to regular theatres.

I'm going on the 15th at 4 PM, I already have my tickets.

Mad_Gecko 05-08-2003 02:02 PM

Hey, please add a couple of months for us on the other side of the "pond"....

Love to see it on IMAX, but I'll be lucky to see it in august as a "new" opening.

Have a great time, and I hope it lives up to the first....

Quiggles 05-08-2003 02:13 PM

Im in DC, not sure if they will show at the Uptown but it would be nice

If not LEt me know whats up , it woud be great if someone had the hook up on a screening

i hate going to movies the first night they come out. there is always so many people there.

clockworkgreen 05-08-2003 04:12 PM

Some movies need to be seen with the crowd on opening night --- Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and I think The Matrix is up there.

I'm sure others saw Episode I opening night...I was in San Francisco at the old 1200+ person theater there (can't remember the name. Fillmore? I dunno.). Just being in that environment actually made the movie tolerable! I didn't realize it was bad until the 2nd time I watched it...

Emotion 05-08-2003 04:24 PM

well then maybe its because whenever i try to go to a movie theres always stupid 13-14 year olds running around and talking through the whole thing. i guess that wont be the case with the matrix though - seeing as how it is R rated.

SecretMethod70 05-08-2003 04:29 PM

Wish I could see it with ya BuDDaH - you're a bit too far away though ;)

Besides, I'm seeing it at 10:00 on the 14TH :D :D :D

Lebell 05-08-2003 06:03 PM

I'll be there in spirit, man.

(We'll be at a midnight showing in reality ;) )

Laterz,

Fellow Coppertops!

Wile E 05-08-2003 06:25 PM

You get the tickets, I'll grab the popcorn and soda. Sign my ass up. And Cynthetiq, be a flake yourself, grab Azharen and stumble on over to our side of town to catch it with BuDDaH and I.

sixate 05-08-2003 06:52 PM

I wish I lived in New York so I could go with you guys. :(

Boner 05-08-2003 08:30 PM

Wife and I are going in OKC on the 15th, during the day.

I had heard that IMAX conversion requires pan-and-scan, since it isn't letterbox format. Is that true? If so, that'd suck.

double 05-09-2003 01:30 AM

...I have to be patient and wait until the 21st of May before Reloaded is here in Helsinki :( . I wish I could go with you guys ... Have fun!! :p

Shadowman 05-09-2003 01:35 AM

Sorry Buddah, I can't attend....theres a small mileage problem...about 9000 actually :P But I've been lucky enough to score some tickets to the Preview/Media Screening on May 14th, and im very, very excited! Hope you enjoy yourselves!

sometimes it's not about the crowd..

for me it's about the quality of the print. As the film passes through the projector it gets scratched, scraped, and other types of damage. So the first few days that the print is actually in use, you get the best visuals.. of course if the bulb sucks, and the rest of the theater isn't up to par or spec, then it's not going to matter.

It's one of the reasons I like watching the digital versions... they are crisp and clean as watching a DVD on a giant TV.

I'm not sure. I watched ATOC and Fantasia in IMAX format... with Fantasia.. you could see some of the actual brush strokes on the cels....

ATOC they cut out all the Anikin/Padme rolling around in the grass and farting around with that cowthingy...

if it was P/S it really didn't matter because the format is so large that your eyes do a pan/scan around the screen to see some of the side details...

I'm definitely an ananmorphic/letterbox person... I miss the days of 70mm

ratbastid 05-09-2003 11:11 AM

I'll be seeing the 7:10 show on the 15th at the Wynnsong theater in Durham, NC. So I won't make it to NYC in time to hang with you cats. Sorry! Enjoy the show, though!

BuDDaH 05-12-2003 03:52 AM

So, the count is so far just Wile E. and I?
No one else?
You pussies....

teph 05-12-2003 09:36 AM

I'm going at 10 on the 14th, mwaa haa haa.

And I totally agree with Cynthetiq, the crowd may have an effect on the movie experience (positively as well as negatively), but the quality of the actual film usually leads me to the theater opening night (or before if I can get it).

Plus, if I get there early enough, I can usually go back a couple months after opening, before it goes to video, to refresh my memory on what happened.

denim 05-12-2003 11:47 AM

I will be at the theater that evening. I won't do the midnight show if there is one, though. :)

hotzot 05-12-2003 07:36 PM

I'm working.

teph 05-14-2003 09:08 PM

Was going to open up another thread for this, but I couldn't think of much more to say than

Ho-ly shit, that movie was amazing.

Anything more just wouldn't do it justice, so I'll leave it at that.

Thank you.

brad 05-14-2003 09:17 PM

Going right after I see my back dr in the morning got plenty of time don't have to go back to work till sept.

ratzeo 05-14-2003 09:29 PM

I must be the only person in the United States who has to wait a month for a theatre anywhere near me to get the Matrix.

*Sighs...

glytch 05-14-2003 09:36 PM

I'm definately going to agree with Teph...you WON'T be let down.

cheese 05-15-2003 02:13 AM

my bastard ass roomate got a 10pm show on the 14th ....grrr and to top it off he called me @ work to tell me he could not pick me up because he was going to see the matrix

NoSoup 05-21-2003 09:00 PM

Yes, I am Cheese's bastard ass roomate who went and saw it the Night before it opened. I would have to say that it was definately better than picking him up from work ;)

MacGnG 05-21-2003 09:51 PM

MATRIX IS AWSOME!

rsl12 05-22-2003 07:20 AM

The matrix was awesome? Watching the first half was like watching a bad episode of Deep Space Nine. They all wear bathrobes and talk like they're all doing important, rational things.

Of course, that freeway chase was kick ass and worth $8.50 easily!
