Deadly weapons cache seized

A FRIGHTENING, multi-bladed knife destined for Melbourne's streets was among a cache of weapons seized by Customs yesterday.

Scary ... multi-blade knife.

Officers detected the 50cm knife during an X-ray of air cargo from the US at Sydney airport last month.

Bound for Melbourne, the four-pronged attack knife was found with a small arsenal including a sword stick, trench knives, a double-edged dagger and other knives.

The four-bladed knife has a silver-studded cuff wrapping around the wrist while the hand grasps the handle.

The handle is connected to two small flick-knife sized blades and two 25cm larger knives, with a total length of 50cm.

It is believed the knives were bought over the internet.

Victorian Customs regional director Jenny Peachey said buyers should not assume anything could be imported if bought on the internet.

http://www.news.com.au/common/imaged...,345605,00.jpg

"Knives and other weapons are restricted imports," Ms Peachey said. "A permit to import a restricted item can be applied for prior to importation."

Customs corporate spokesman Michael Carter said the matter had been investigated and no one would be prosecuted.

"In this instance, a warning has been issued," Mr Carter said.

"From now on they will be monitored for any incoming or outgoing cargo."

As I read this I thought...

I'm glad that they are catching some of this stuff... but still, there's lots that is getting in under the radar.

I'd love to see the actual layout of the rest of the stuff they found.

edit: found another picture... wolverine pose :)

Nisses 05-23-2004 03:37 AM

hehehe, same thing went through my head at first :)

though this weapon, "destined for the streets of melbourne" seems fit for decorative purposes or props at best... Can't imagine actually fighting efficiently with it. Or carrying it with you when you are walking down the street...

*Nikki* 05-23-2004 05:26 AM

holy shit

MSD 05-23-2004 07:56 AM

Ornamental knives are illegal to import? Damn, I'd be fucked if I ever moved to Australia.

Amethyst 05-23-2004 08:40 AM

OMG that is one huge knife. I wonder who ordered it? Why would someone need a knife that big?

Radio Monk33 05-23-2004 09:10 AM

Its for display purposes. I mean cmon, 4 blades arent going to kill anyone more than one. :p

And then theres the fact that it'd be huge and unwieldly. Oh and no handguard, so when you catch the other guys knife in between the 2 forks, you lose all your fingers..

it's not a matter of need. The knife was made for display purposes (kinda like an oversized knick knack for guys), to catch ones eye....it's rather impractical for anything else. Even as a fighting weapon, it would be pretty difficult to use, considering the thing weighs 5.8 lbs.

PredeconInferno 05-23-2004 09:16 AM

I think it looks pretty cool. Is it impractical? Completely so.

If this person was considering using it for anything other than a wall ornament, he's crazy.

Fearless_Hyena 05-23-2004 09:56 AM

I think it looks hilarious :D
hahahah look at the wolverine dude's face

HeAtHeN 05-23-2004 10:00 AM

Why would you want that?

Nafter 05-23-2004 02:34 PM

http://www.weaponmasters.com/index.h...=&ITEM=WM-1985

if you want one :D

Its basicly a display piece, though im not sure why it comes sharpened, never saw the point in sharpening weapons that are only going on display.

Im not sure why this was newsworthy as ive seen such things around before, much the same as buying katanas for the wall or whatever. And if it was destined for the streets, id much rather have a good sword . Media exaggeration at work

qtpye4u84 05-23-2004 02:40 PM

HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw something like that In my knife Mag, but it was not as big as that.
That is one toy you dont want to mess around with.
Its like art or something, I bet he has it in a display case some where.
I am going to stick to my Rambo knifes.

Tophat665 05-23-2004 07:11 PM

That's not a knife. A knife should be useful.

This is a knife:

In Japan, the hand can be used as a knife, but it can't cut a watermelon.

-Ever- 05-23-2004 08:38 PM

The Kuri is quite an intimidating knife. I think it's bent so it continues to cut deep (IE through a neck) as it follows its path, instead of cutting less-deep as it goes... very scary

World's King 05-23-2004 08:45 PM

If you need that knife to protect you... Get a fuckin' shotgun.

Luki 05-23-2004 09:42 PM

The first thing that went through my mind when I read the title was Crocidile Dundee and the street scene. Dundee is awesome

Fire 05-23-2004 09:46 PM

I sell knives- wont stock that one cause the damn thing is to unwieldy and hard to pack to a show- and its fucking useless as anything but a doorstop- if only muggers used these instead of something practical like , oh, say, a box cutter.......

Its stupid, draconian laws like these that make me want to both laugh and cry- when will people start blaming the people who commit the crimes instead of bits of inanimate metal - lets not solve the problem, lets ban some more stuff and hope it gets better.......

Fire 05-23-2004 09:48 PM

On second thought, I wonder how much I could make smuggling knives to the opressed people of austrailia?

mingusfingers 05-23-2004 10:01 PM

I'd like to see a crazy fight scene in a movie with one of those. I can just imagine it, one it each hand...

KellyC 05-23-2004 11:05 PM

looks more like a weapon from a sci-fi movie...Star Trek perhaps??

anyways...looks pretty cool/bad ass.

mystmarimatt 05-24-2004 12:02 AM

man...that's crazy...and completely ostentatious. i just got this funny image of bill gates, buying it, and having to drag it around, lacking the strength to actually hold it.

Either to prepare for a Klingon invasion or the Quickening..

Looks like something Warf from STNG would use.

Frenchie 05-24-2004 09:00 AM

Yeah.. I'll keep that in my purse just incase I get into a little situation.

hulk 05-24-2004 09:05 AM

Haha, Australia isn't oppressed, the idiots just didn't get a proper permit. A haul like that was done here in WA, they found dozens of modified fully-automatic rifles and pistols, which they jumped right on. Customs is a Good Thing™ =) We can still import any sort of knives, you just have to show that you're not gonna cut people with it.

This makes me laugh.

I think the thing looks cool as hell, but it would be a workout in itself to use the thing effectively; looks too big and unorthodox for its own good. Good thing its purpose is just for display.

Dwezz 05-24-2004 09:48 AM

i wonder if you could make a pointy stick with one of those

GakFace 05-24-2004 10:28 AM

yeah aside from no hand gaurd, they're simply too damn heavy to actually be of use... They are on the other hand fun to show off. Again I don't understand why it was sharpened... No need.

basmoq 05-24-2004 07:30 PM

all I can say is, if I had the money, I wouldn't buy one, I have a pistol, that's good enough for me

kurty[B] 05-25-2004 05:30 PM

looks like something the main badguy from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would wear? I forget his name. I'd buy the whole outfit if I were going to display something like that.

Soggybagel 05-25-2004 06:45 PM

Wow. That knife is freaky big! In any case, sucks for the guy or gal who bought that and got it seized.

Ace_O_Spades 05-25-2004 07:57 PM

you call that a knife?

To a Filipino :)

I had to dredge up this thread because I found a place online you can buy this crazy knife.

specialty weapon

and here's where you can check out some other crazy weapons and stuff
martialartssupply.com

Nafter 06-11-2004 07:23 PM

I posted a while back a place where you could buy it, ya must of missed it, tis a crazy weapon tho yea heh

TopRamen66 06-11-2004 09:22 PM

Yeah, like anyone would REALLY take that out on the "streets". It weighs a ton I'm sure, and is impossible to conceal. It was more likely going into some Sci-Fi nuts den, mounted on the wall.

Esco 06-11-2004 09:31 PM

Wow ... think he's compensating for something?

DelayedReaction 06-11-2004 10:03 PM

I wonder if a weapon like that has ever actually killed anyone while being used with intent. I have no doubt that a bunch of geeks have been clobbered over the head by crap like this after mounting it wrong, but used as a weapon? Sure.

Watch out! If the Austrailia police catch you, they will ship you to a horrid prison colony on the other side of the world.
